Pleasant Lake, very nice Cottage

I have had the opportunity to stay at this lake house on several occasions. It is very nice, clean and user friendly. The second kitchen located on the bottom floor makes it so easy to enjoy the beautiful lakeside dock, yard and porch. With a grill and hot tub on the lake side porch, a bar area right inside the door and a pool table, it is perfect for families or an adult getaway. There is enough lake side yard to play games with the kids and enough shallow lake front to do the same in the water. The bedrooms are spacious, there is an upstairs sitting area, art from local artists, views of the lake from the top deck (covered), dining and living room area. The kitchen on the main floor is open to bar seating and the dining room. It is perfect for large dinners. The kitchen is well stocked and with TWO refrigerators in the cottage, there is ample space for food and drink. More amazing is that this cottage (it really should be called a house, cottage does not do it justice) is that is has a two car garage attached. Why is this amazing? You can unload cars (great when raining), keep recycling handy, keep coolers close to the kitchen, storage and most of all make it easy to pack up when it is time to leave. I do not come from means, when i was younger I spent two weeks every summer at a cottage (not a house). I loved it, this place is a cottage on steroids. I should also mention that the owner is pleasant and easy to work with. Last, i read the poor review. It seemed that things just seemed to just go wrong and i can understand the frustration when that happens but it is not a accurate reflection of the owner and lake house.

This was the first experience any of us had had renting on line. We could not have been more pleased. John was very quick to answer our questions prior to our arrival and while we were there. Our two families of 4 adults and 5 children had plenty of room to hang out. The property was very clean and well stocked!! The linens were plenty and considering how cold it was we did not worry about not having enough blankets. The games room was a great place to hang out on a cold winter night. We played pool, darts, watched TV and had a fun family get together. The locals were very friendly and we had a most enjoyable diner at Murdochs. We are considering making this our first annual and would recommend the property to anyone. I would love to visit in the summer to take advantage of the water and all the sports. Thank you John. After reading the previous review, we were scared to death that we were renting a cottage that was going to be disgusting but we were pleasantly surprised. The cottage was lovely, roomy, quiet on every level so children could nap while others were out on the dock and on the lower level. Yes, the cottage needed a lil cleaning but it is a cottage so spiders and such are normal. Mr. Booth the owner was delightful to rent from as well. We look forward to renting it again next year. Have a great 2010!!

When we arrived at the cottage on Sunday after our grandmothers funeral we were a little disappointed walking in. We loved the fact that the cottage had a hot tub and were surprised to find it half full and grossly green making it unable to use. We arrived late on Sunday giving more then ample amount of time to fully check and clean the cottage prior to our arrival. It was very hot and the cottage had two fans for the entire 3 floors. There werent any grilling untensils to grill with and we ran out of propaine on the second night while cooking chicken and had to finish on the one baking sheet that was provided. There were spiders everywhere including in the beds and visible ant traps throughout the cottage. We brought two boats with us and were told the owners boat would be removed and it never was. The keys were also left in the boat which we felt was a potential hazard having young children with us. The wooden steps into the water didnt have any treds on them which caused two children to fall several times and one adult to get very cut up and bruised (see picture). The internet didnt work right. Overall we felt that the cottage was overpriced for the condition of it. We feel that a compensation for the issues we encountered should be offered. We rent cottages every year with our families and have never encounter any problems like we did with this cottage. We feel we left the cottage in better condition then it was found and expect our full security deposit along with any addition compensation returned to us asap. We hope that you take note of these issues and make an effort to fix them for future renters. The cottage itself has a lot of potential if these issues are addressed. On a positive note we loved the lake, had fun boating, skiing, tubing and swimming with our family. Wed like to revisit in the future, but not to this cottage if the same things happen.
Owner response:I am very sorry that this guest found the house to be so sub standard to her expectations. All of her concerns were addressed immediately, new proprane and grilling utensils were delivered to her in a more than timely matter. The old grilling utensils were located a week or so later along with more than one baking sheet. Spiders are a common occurance at any lakehouse and the cleaning crew has been instructed to be vigilant for them when they clean. This year they seemed to be more of a problem than in the past. I find it amusing that the guest also complains about the ant traps, I guess it's a no win situation. The hot tub was new at the time and not included as an amenity when they rented the cottage, the guest neglects to mention that there should not have been any expectation of a hot tub when she arrived. At that time we were still trying to determine how to best maintain the water quality and I believe all issues have been addressed. As you can see at the bottom of this complaint, the guest is seeking compensation to be returned and I feel this is the motivation for her complaint. I have had almost no complaints and have often contacted past guests to determine what they felt could be done to make their experience more enjoyable and to identify any maintenance issues that need to be addressed.

You've done a wonderful job with renovations and decorating! The cottage is a gem and I look forward to future visits. I can't think of a nicer getaway for a Fall excursion, a ski vacation, Summer lake fun, or just to gather with family and friends. You have found a cottage nestled in a beautiful region of upstate NY. Thanks for sharing!

I stayed at this lake house with six of my closest friends. There was plenty of sleeping room for all. Even with the spacious nature of the house, it still maintains a cozy feel as well. It feels as if all your cares just melt away when you can sit in the livingroom or on the deck with a cup of hot cocoa and soak in the peaceful views of the lake. Once you are done taking it all in as a passive participant, you can get off the couch and do so much! If you're into running, biking, fishing, skiing, snowboarding, even eatting (Moonwinks is an AWESOME restaurant/bar and just walking distance away), this location provides all of that for you. I recomend this house to anyone who is interested in a relaxing week away from the hustle and the busle of every day life. I can't wait to go back!

I have stayed at this cottage a number of times. It is amazing! The view from the upper deck is spectacular and the lower deck leads right out to the lake. Last summer my husband, daughter and I stayed at the cottage for a few days with four other couples and a ton of kids. My had more than enough room and the kids all had a blast. I highly recommend it!
