Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 1940
My brother (Michael Wild) and myself built this charming Vineyard 'Camp' in the 1960's. It has a piano, a full library of art, philosophy and history books of Martha's Vineyard. The house contains original art of many Island artist. The 10 acres is on Edgartown Great Pond and a private sandy beach with open fields and blueberry bushes. The house itself is nestled in a grove of scrub oaks with a porch facing the sunset. The property is surrounded by a 250 acre working farm and is 3 miles from the center of Edgartown(a perfect bike ride). South beach can be accessed by boat or a 1/2 mile to the public access (right fork).
Why the Owner Chose Katama
My parents farmed what is now Herring Creek Farm in the 40's. They cultivated alfalfa, potatoes and chickens. When they sold the farm in the late 40's they keep 20 acres - this is now 'forever wild'. A rustic get-away you will enjoy with your children and pets and will never forget.
The Unique Benefits of this House
Bring your own boat (25 hp limit) or use (at your own risk) some of our Kayaks. You can access South beach and fish for blue fish and stripped bass. The pond has steamers and sometimes blue crabs. Our beach has a dock as well. There is also a fire pit, perfect for roasting marshmallows and some-mores.
