We call our Non-Smoking, ground floor villa (#208), 'Retreat' because that is exactly what it is for us - a peaceful place to get away from it all in the beautiful surroundings of Georgia's Jekyll Island. Once a winter hide-away for some of the wealthiest families in the country during the Gilded Age, Jekyll is now a state park offering an unique combination of nature, recreation, and history to her guests. NOTE: Our unit has been renovated in December, 2006! We now have ceramic tile floors in the living areas, a new dishwasher, and newly refinished/repainted ceiling, and fresh paint on all walls.

Retreat is a delightful one bedroom villa located in Villas By the Sea, an oceanside resort on Jekyll's north end. Retreat Villa #208 is located in the Ellington Building, a quiet building just a stone's throw from the Atlantic Ocean. Our building isn't oceanfront but is the first building back and it only takes a minute's walk to get to the beach.
Villa By the Sea's seventeen beautifully landscaped acres provide a tranquil environment for residents and guests. Beach boardwalks lead through the greenery to a sandy beach that stretches on for miles. There is an L-shaped pool with a newly renovated splashpool/wading area for children, a restaurant and lounge, garden area with benches and fountain, grills, and a children's playground on-site at Villas By the Sea. Washers and dryers are available as well. The staff at Villas is courteous and ready to help you in any way during your visit. We work through Jekyll Realty, whose staff are ready and willing to help during your stay.
Our villa is decorated in a relaxing nautical style with many lighthouses, shells, ocean collectibles, and prints to make your stay a pleasant one. We bought our villa in 2003 and have redone the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and living area, adding new furnishings, mattress, dishes, and many other little touches to make Retreat Villa feel like home. In 2004, new carpet was added in the bedroom, and in 2005, a new refrigerator. In 2007, we added a new dishwasher, and in 2008, we added tilework in the kitchen. We replace the pots and pans yearly to keep them clean and fresh, and we replace pillows and blankets frequently to keep them comfortable. We work hard to keep our unit clean and comfy - a home away from home for ourselves and our guests. While linens are not included, you can rent them easily through our friends at Jekyll Realty. We do keep a couple of blankets in the unit for your comfort.
The Ellington Building is nestled beneath towering live oaks draped with Spanish moss. With a back patio and expansive sliding glass doors, it's a wonderful place to bird watch. Development on Jekyll is strictly controlled by the state, so there's ample opportunity to enjoy nature and wildlife throughout the island. Bike rentals are available on-site to explore Jekyll's 20 miles of bike paths. Jekyll Island is a golfer's paradise with 63 holes, and there is also a tennis center and a water park nearby. A fairly new activity on the island is renting a 'Red Bug', cute electric vehicles, to see the island up close. Red bug rentals are available nearby.

- Minimum Age Limit for Renters: Renters must be at least 23 years of age. Jekyll is a family oriented resort and our complex is very family friendly. We discourage rentals by minors for the sole purpose of 'partying'.

I am a retired teacher who led students to Jekyll for 15 years to learn about the barrier island's unique environment. Now I enjoy coming to Jekyll just to relax! I'm a musician now, teaching guitar and playing at coffee shops, weddings, restaurants, and private events. While on Jekyll, I love to beachcomb, shop, read, and just relax!

Why the Owner Chose Jekyll Island
I've visited Jekyll Island since I was a child, and it's always been the most special place to me. The island offers a unique combination of natural beauty and fun activities. My dream was to have my own little piece of heaven on Jekyll, so Retreat Villa is truly a dream come true.
The Unique Benefits of this Condominium
I love to ride my bike around the island. The ride through the marsh is just around the corner from our villa, and I see something special every time! Sometimes a great blue heron will be waiting for dinner on the banks of a tidal creek. Other times, it's a raccoon family crossing the marsh or a painted bunting flickering across the bike path.
Sitting on the beach or beachcombing is another favorite way to spend an afternoon. Our building is the first back from beachfront, so it's just a short stroll. Driftwood Beach, written up in Southern Living magazine, is right next door, and its unusually shaped trees give the beach an otherworldly appearance. I love to hunt for shark's teeth and sanddollars - never the ones that are alive! The shrimp boats and huge ships coming into Brunswick are always fun to watch, and nothing beats the sound of the ocean for a relaxing time.
Our unit is surrounded by beautiful live oak trees - the state tree of Georgia. We enjoy feeding the squirrels that play in the branches and in summer, it's so refreshing to return to the shade after hours in the sun at the beach. I love to take a good book out onto the patio and just relax under those gorgeous trees.
Visiting the historic district is another favorite way to spend a day. Tours of the Millionaire's mansions are available, and it's a wonderful place to bike or walk. Nestled under gorgeous oaks on the river side of the island, the shops are located in historic buildings once housing servants and support staff for the Gilded Age millionaires who once called Jekyll Island home. The Georgia Sea Turtle Center is a fascinating stop, and Tidelands Nature Center isn't far away. Wonderful places to learn about the natural beauty that makes Jekyll Island so unique.
