This three bedroom cabin (built in 1993) is the ONLY property in Otis that borders BOTH Benton Pond and Big Pond. At Benton Pond, we offer 400 feet of water frontage along with a canoe for your enjoyment. Our gazebo sits on a cliff overlooking the pond and is a great place to enjoy a picnic. Our water frontage at Big Pond includes a dock where you can park your motorboat for fishing and waterskiing. Walking trails criss-cross the 43 acre property for your hiking enjoyment.

In addition to the three bedrooms, the house consists of a large screened back porch that during the summer season can serve as an extra bedroom or dining area. There is a covered front porch, a side deck, and a balcony off the upstairs master bedroom. These outdoor spaces nearly double the amount of usable space.

After spending your day walking, boating, or just enjoying a good book on the porch, you will be ready to enjoy some of the many cultural activites that Berkshire County offers. In less than 30 minutes, you can listen to the Boston Symphony from your lawn seat at Tanglewood. Or, if theatre is more to your liking, try the Berkshire Theatre Festival in Stockbridge or Shakespeare and Company in Lenox each less than 30 minutes away. Stockbridge is also the home of the Norman Rockwell Museum. Finally, if modern dance is more your thing, it is just a 20 minute drive to Becket and the Jacobs Pillow Dance Festival. In addition, there are some fantastic restaurants and the Mahaiwe Theatre in Great Barrington.

The house is available in the summer as well as the fall when you can view some of the most beautiful leaf scenery in the world. Come join us!

Thank you Bill – everything was great, the family had a blast and our lab really loved the trails behind your cabin (me too!). The weather also cooperated which always is helpful too. I’m fine if you just tear you the deposit check and hopefully we can do it again sometime.

Well, guess what arrived in the mail today out of nowhere! THIS MUG! The wonderful owner sent it to us when I mentioned in an email to him that we loved it. How freaking cool is that? THANK YOU BILL! We had an amazing time at your cottage and this momento will be a happy reminder of our time there! It really is the little thoughts like this that make a difference

We chose this property because we wanted to stay in a house on a lake where we could boat and swim with easy access to the water. We found a comfortable, beautiful house with a screened-in porch the width of the house. The house was well equipped and stayed cool due to ceiling fans and ample shade. However, we were disappointed to find no easy access to the water. The gazebo was near the water but it was a hike away from the house, on rocky, hilly terrain,. Once at the water, there was no clearing or easy place to sit or launch a boat. We used the canoe once, but it was difficult to get it in the water, and to bring it back to its resting place. The dock mentioned in the description was a short drive away, in a little community of private houses and a parking spot that was difficult to use. The dock itself was not in great shape, and not an appealing place to swim. We ended up swimming at the public beach nearby. If you want a to stay at a lovely house in the woods, but do not care about easy access to water, this is a great place.

Owner response: I appreciate all reviews and and am glad that Linda was happy with the house. I try to make it clear to all renters that while the property borders two lakes, it is a 5-10 minute walk from the house to each lake. Benton Pond has the gazebo (with lake view) and a canoe. There is no dock, so the canoe must be pulled directly out of the water. As a 60-year old man, I do it all the time, but it understandably more difficult for some. Big Pond is the other lake which has kayaks and a recently renovated floating dock. This lake is also a 5-10 minute walk from the house although renters are welcome to drive if they are carrying a boat or heavy equipment -- or just prefer not to walk. There is plenty of room at the dock for a motor boat up to 20 feet long (my Boston Whaler is 14 feet long). Renters are welcome to trailer their own boat to the property and tie it up at the dock. Otherwise, kayaks can easily be tied to the dock. The property is private and best suited for a family or couple who desire a quiet, relaxing experience in a modern cabin with a great screened porch but who also like to hike, are experienced with kayaks and canoes, and perhaps have a dog who likes to run in the woods. Prospective renters are welcome to visit the property at their convenience and hike the trails. I also welcome phone calls and will answer any questions renters may have. My phone number is posted on the VRBO site. Bill and Cheri

We stayed at this property for a week in July 2011 and had an absolutely wonderful experience. The owner is friendly, helpful, responsive and a pleasure to deal with. The property was even more lovely than depicted in the photos (the cathedral ceilings and rough hewn beams and railings and walls were gorgeous). All modern conveniences and linens are included. The house is set in the woods on a large, peaceful, private, quiet piece of land that includes hiking trails and pretty, wooded water frontage. The huge screened porch at the back of the house is a great outdoor living space. House is attractively and comfortably furnished. Loved the loft sleeping area (beautiful view of cathedral ceiling woodwork while lying in cozy bed). Bathrooms are modern and comfortable, with pretty woodwork. We enjoyed the open living space and fireplace. The indoor space stayed pretty well insulated and comfortable in spite of the summer heat. We used the ceiling fan in the living/great room, but surprisingly didn't need the fan in the loft. There is a screened gazebo set on a cliff overlooking Benton Pond -- the view is amazing and the setting private and peaceful. You need to walk a wooded trail for a few minutes to get to it (all part of the fun as far as we're concerned!) . We enjoyed many hours in the gazebo and also canoeing, swimming, and floating in inner tubes in the pond. The pond water is warm, clear, clean and excellent for swimming. Be sure to bring water shoes for the rocky bottom. Life jackets are available at the cabin for nonswimmers and canoeing. We didn't see or hear any motorized boats on this pond (hooray). The gazebo is surrounded by a tall, wonderful pine forest. . If you have your own watercraft, then you'll enjoy using the dock at the Big Pond. Good for motorized toys and kayaks/canoes, too. If you don't have your own watercraft, then you'll appreciate and enjoy the owner's canoe at Benton Pond, or renting kayaks at the Otis Reservoir (Camp Overflow) about 10 minutes away.. Tolland State Forest was 10 minutes down the road and has great hiking. Jacob's Pillow 7 miles away. Tanglewood is a 20-30 minute drive. Great Barrington about 45 minutes away for quaint town shopping, eating, major grocery, etc.. Westfield hospital and major stores are a 30 minute drive. Northampton an hour away (great food and funky town). We LOVED this place. Go there and de-stress. A home away from home. Highly recommend!
