Wedding Week at the Outer Banks

My extended family just spent a week at Family Tides, culminating with our daughter's wedding on the beach on Friday. The house was absolutely great and exceeded our expectations. The house is beautifully decorated and the view of the beach from the main living level was stunning! The adult bedrooms were elegantly furnished and the children's bedrooms were adorable! We spent may hours on the beach, which was just a few steps away, down the boardwalk. We had beach chairs, boogie boards, pool toys, and a large children's sandbox as our disposal. All drawers and light switches were labeled for easy use. We experienced a couple of very minor maintenance issues and they were immediately addressed. If you are searching for the perfect beach house, look no farther than Family Tides.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: So glad our home was the setting for such a memorable, beautiful event. Maybe the whole crowd can come again for their 1st anniversary ;-)

It was so nice to return to Family Tides for our second visit this year, and we highly recommend it to other families as a very accommodating gathering place. The beachfront location is ideal, especially if you have young children - so much more convenient than having to drive or make long treks to the beach, not to mention the joy of a beautiful view from the house! The Pine Island facilities are also a nice break from the sand, and the kiddie pools are more relaxing for the parents than the ocean is! The Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education offers fun activities for families, and the Whalehead Club are good resources for outings in Currituck. Great area- we love it!Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: We love our returning guests! Hopefully your adorable family won't outgrow our house!

What a wonderful beach home you have! It is so well equipped for family activities and just plain fun - the kitchen is nice for large gatherings and cooking!! My three generational family had a fabulous time! They surfed , boogie boarded, kayaked, ate seafood , walked along the beach, watched dolphins and pelicans, ocean gazed, and sat in that cheery little room off the great room ( we decided that was the best spot in the house) and just relaxed. The little ones loved the pool and spent hours perfecting their elementary swimming skills. We all agreed memories were made and family ties strengthened by our adventure at Family Tides. If your walls could talk they would have scores of joyful events to report. On behalf of my entire family we thank you for making your home available for our great week together under one roof!!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children.

We had a wonderful time at your house in the OBX, great weather and good quality time with the family, you have a really nice place and a great location. The fishing, swimming and beaches were super. I can't say enough good about our experience there and your place on the ocean. You can hear , smell and feel the ocean, almost like you are in it. The Currituck Club golf course in Corolla was a nice course with friendly staff although a bit pricey but very close by. We did very well surf fishing , catching quite a number of spot and blue fish even though we had not surf fished before. We released all the fish except for the blue fish we caught on the charter the last Friday we were there. The mate cleaned them for us. I, my wife and 3 of the youngest granddaughters climbed the Currituck Lighthouse what a view from there. I rate your place and our experience excellent. The "kids" are already talking about a return next year.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.

About the owner: Here are 2 of our 17 owners! We are a close family who began renting beach homes in the 70's and enjoyed it so much, that we decided to buy one and continue the tradition.
Why the Owner Chose Pine Island:
We wanted a home for our extended family to enjoy in a neighborhood with every amenity. Being right on the ocean was important not only for the view but we could see the kids surf, and our aging parents could see us from the house if they didn't want to come down. It was important for us to have areas where were could spend time together, along with areas where you could spend time with just a few. Spending time vacationing together has made for some of our best memories ever!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Some of our FAVORITE THINGS are the very PRACTICAL. Top of our list are the ROOM DARKENING CURTAINS in the master suites! Who wants to rise with the sun while you are on vacation? The rooms are named for easy identification. The kitchen cabinets are LABELED so you know where things are. There are always too many towels (bath & beach)in a house for 22, so we have HOOKS everywhere--in many of the bathrooms and even in a common hall. We are a close-knit family--we like to 'cozy up' and watch movies, so instead of theater seating we have a sectional with ottomans. We love the HUGE PICNIC TABLE near the pool. We will grill out or have a Low Country Boil and spread it out on the table. After we eat dinner and play group games with the everyone, the kids end up on the first floor and the adults on the top floor. The house makes for a great vacation for us all. After living like this, you will never again want to vacation as a group in a hotel.
