You'll Love Our Nature: The Eastern Shore is a 75 mile peninsula comfortably nestled between the Atlantic Ocean & the Chesapeake Bay. Uninhabited Barrier Islands protect the Seaside coast from the power of the ocean. Winding ribbons of Beach line the Bayside coast, including the wide stretches of sand at Eagle's Rest. This section of the coast is locally known as 'The Sand Hills'. Pre-historic sand dunes over 60 feet high create unique ecosystems and spectacular views so special that they inspired the creation of the Savage Neck Dunes Natural Area Preserve, a 295 acre refuge for migratory songbirds, endangered Northeastern Tiger Beetles, and of course the Ospreys & Eagles that give our house it's name.
There is always an adventure to be found at Eagle's Rest. Have kayaks or paddle boards delivered to the beach and go explore the coast & creeks to the North. Tie on your hiking shoes and explore the otherworldly landscapes of the Preserve to the South, or just grab your binoculars & let the birds come to you
Little Williamsburg By the Bay: The quaint, historic town of Eastville is home to the oldest continuous court records in the US, an historic court square, and a number of beautiful homes from several distinct periods of American architectural history. One of our favorite day trips starts & ends in Eastville, and let's you discover some of the Shore's other highlights along the way.
After exploring the Eastville Courthouse Green, travel North to the Barrier Island Center. This cozy little museum tells the stories of our gorgeous barrier islands and the people who have called them home over the years. For lunch scoot across the street to the Machipongo Trading Company, or up the road to the Great Machipongo Clam Shack before joining the guides from SouthEast Expeditions for a kayak trip on Church Creek to Chatham Vineyards. After a little adventure and a glass of Chardonnay you're ready to return to the Eastville Inn for a fantastic dinner & return to Eagle's Rest just in time to watch the sun set over the Chesapeake.
World Class Golf, Small town charm: Historic Cape Charles, VA is 15 minutes south of Eagle's Rest. Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus golf courses are available at Bay Creek development, as well as a public beach, stores, restaurants, and atmosphere that can best be described as 'Mayberry by the Bay'.

We loved our stay here! The kids loved the place! The sunsets are to die for. We didn't want to leave and the kids are ready to go back. Seen all sorts of wildlife. Nice and quiet had the beach to ourselves. The kids brought back lots of different shells they found, (even found one shell that was being occupied) The kids loved the rope swing and did that all the time. Kitchen well equipped. Bathrooms are all one of a kind. We always stay at cabins when we go on vacation and this was a very nice change. Dave and Sarah are wonderful! We only ate out 2x the 1st night and the last night the rest of the week as we cooked there, It was wonderful to get away from it all at this little paradise.Owner response: Dear Sara, We are so happy you enjoyed it! Please come back again sometime soon. All the best, Sara and Dave

A fantastic location with a beautiful view and direct access to the Chesapeake Bay. We arrived and carried our kayaks 75 yards to the beach which is protected by three small breakwaters. The next day we put our Hobie Cat in the water at the ramp in Cape Charles and sailed it up to the house in about 45 minutes. Water depth out to the breakwater is chest deep but wear water shoes for the few sharp rocks. With no bad weather we took four hour kayak trips up and down the bay and sailing was great. No kayaks – the owners can arrange them for you. Winds started the week from the north and ended the week from the south-south east. Sailing a Hobie with dolphins swimming beside you flying along is an experience you will never forget. We were able to sail every day and ranged up and down the bay. Walking through the protected reserve to the south of the house was like walking through a fantasy land. Take a camera as the sunsets and other sights provide a myriad of opportunities for the photographer. This is a luxurious house created by a well-known architect. Beautifully decorated, comfortable, and contains everything you will need. The bathrooms are what you would find in a five star hotel and the bedrooms are very comfortable. If you brought everything you need to eat for a week you would never have to leave. This is a true sanctuary. We had a wonderful family vacation that even our golden retriever enjoyed.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Eagles Rest is a quite simply the most amazing holiday home I’ve ever stayed in, it is quite simply perfection…and believe me I’m picky. The location of the house is sublime; it is such a private and tranquil spot. The house itself is a great combination of an exquisite designers abode and a home. To reiterate what the previous reviews say, the bathrooms really are a work of art, I suggest you see them for yourself, and the kitchen is a joy to cook in. We enjoyed many an evening sitting on the private beach enjoying a glass of wine watching the most incredible sunset, and we were totally undisturbed. The only problem with staying at Eagles Rest is you will never want to leave!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, pet owners.

My wife and I stayed at the Eagle's Rest for our 30th anniversary and had a great time. While the house and beach are very beautiful, the best part of staying there was sitting on the deck in the morning with a cup of coffee, with nothing but the sound of the wind or a bird to disturb us. It's hard to find quiet like that anymore.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, sightseeing, girls getaway.

If you long to escape the hustle and bustle of life and languish in your own private haven, then you have found the right place. If you enjoy cooking in a wonderful kitchen while experiencing beautiful sunsets, then you have found the right place. And if you are thrilled by unique architectural settings and sleeping to the sound of the wind in the pine trees, then you have found the right place. My wife and I would highly recommend this coastal retreat for anyone seeking an amazing and private get away.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, pet owners, sightseeing, girls getaway.

Literally! The artful tilework of New Ravenna makes taking a shower at the Sand Hills an unforgettable experience, with views of the Chesapeake Bay no less (no need for curtains since this house is so secluded). Dave - I think you should post some photos of the bathrooms!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

Being woken up by the sound of birds outside our window every morning was a blessing. Finding out that a couple of those birds were Bald Eagles was amazing! We had heard that the Eastern Shore was an incredible place to do some birdwatching, but we had no idea how true this was. While we relaxed on the BEAUTIFUL beach wading birds explored the calm pools created by the sandbars at low tide. Pelicans cruised by occasionally stopping to dive bomb some fish. And dozens of songbirds filled the shadowy pine forest between the house and the water. When we finally decided to venture off the property we loved Cape Charles and Eastville. The staff and food at the Eastville Inn were fantastic, as was our kayak trip to Chatham vineyards. We had read about the trip in Southern Living, and had been looking forward to it all week. The Eastern Shore is not the place to go if you want carnival rides and mini-golf, but it is a great place to go if you want to spend some time with your family on the water, out in nature, or just playing board games on the deck. No review of this house is complete without mentioning the bathrooms. I can't even believe that I said that! But you'll know what I mean when you step out of the master shower, soak in the huge tub, or rinse off in the outdoor shower on your way back up from the beach. Each of these is an artistic interpretation of gorgeous blue marble. The huge slab on the kitchen island alone is breathtaking. If you are looking for a completely unique rental house, then check out Eagle's Rest. It's unlike anything else we've ever seen.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway.
