Mid Century Tropical Beach House in Lauderdale by the Sea / Fort Lauderdale area
Location: Private Homes, Fort Lauderdale, Florida South East, Florida, USA (Walk to the beach, restaurants, fishing pier Fort Lauderdale)
Accommodations: House, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths (Sleeps 4-5)
Just bring your flip flops and relax in this cozy tropical beach house, 8 short blocks from the beach. Neighbors affectionately call this property "The House of Oz" named after the wonderful man I bought it from, Ozzie who came from Norway in the 50's. I updated and restored the house to its original mid century style with a touch of Tommy Bahama decor. Wall art includes original palm frond art and furnishings include a boomerang shaped tiled coffee table. There is also a glass topped driftwood table. The floors are terrazzo with bamboo area rugs - sand is never a problem. The linen and tropical bark cloth slipcovers dress the vintage Danish modern furniture. The dining room table expands to accommodate a group of 8. The large fenced backyard,(perfect for pets), has a wonderful Florida style tiled table with matching benches and a large sun umbrella. Driftwood, a prop from the Shirley MacLaine, Cameron Diaz movie, IN HER SHOES, decorates the exterior breezeway. The kitchen has original detailing but offers new appliances. The bed lines are tropical in style with new duvets and covers. Natural wood blinds cover most of the windows.

Why the Owner Chose Private Homes
I grew up in Lauderdale by the Sea and love this small seaside town because it has remained quaint.
It's convenient to all the famous attractions of southern Florida, while offering the friendliness and scale of a small town.
The Unique Benefits of this House
Lauderdale by the Sea has interesting shops and wonderful restaurants.
When I visit I rarely use my car, choosing to bicycle or walk to my favorite spots. I love the Italian coffee shop for a cappuccino, The Swedish Bakery for pastries and The Cookie Shop which has been in the same location for 45 years. I love Johnny's homemade donuts still only 25 cents. Now that is a deal. If you like lobster bisque, Delicaseas is a must for lunch. Every Friday night there is free Jazz on the square. It's nice to stroll down and sit by the beach and listen to the music or have a waffle cone from Kilwin's, the Michigan based ice cream store.
The beach is on one side and the inland waterway on the other. The town's local reef, just off the fishing pier, is a world renowned attraction - a paradise for snorkelers and divers.
