Bear Essential is anything but bare! It is beautifully decorated and offers a large open fully equipped kitchen and great room with a cozy gas log fireplace. The master bedroom offers a very comfortable king-size bed, walk-in closet and a private bath. The second bedroom provides a queen-size bed and easy access to a full bath. Fully air conditioned and heated, there is a ceiling fan in every room. All you need to bring is yourself and a few groceries (though coffee, tea, sugar, sweeteners and spices are provided for your " bear necessities"). All linens, laundry facilities, cookware and table settings are provided. Also available are satellite TV (150 channels), VCR, CD/Cassette player and telephone. Internet access is available via phone line or at the Murphy library if you feel compelled to stay in contact with the outside world.
Located in the foothills of the Smokey Mountains, and less than two hours from Atlanta, Chattanooga and Asheville, you will be ideally located to take advantage of white-water rafting (30 minutes to the Ocoee River, site of the 1996 Olympic kayaking event, or the Nantahalla River); hiking or biking in the four adjacent National Forests (Cherokee, Chattahoochee, Great Smokey and Nantaha); Lakes Hiwassee and Nottely offer swimming, boating and fishing, as do numerous rivers and streams; antiquing and sightseeing opportunities abound in this history-rich tri-state area; or you can just sleep late and relax. Just nine miles from the heart of Murphy, you will find several fine restaurants, Ingles and Bi-Lo supermarkets; a 24-hour Super Wal-Mart; a popular flea market and numerous antique shops; and modern medical facilities.
Bear Essential was built and furnished for us as a private mountain retreat, but we would love to share it with you.

Bear Essentials was certainly anything but bare.

My husband and I stayed at Bear Essentials Sept. 22nd through Sept. 30th, 2010. We truly enjoyed our stay, it was everything we expected. The owners were very helpful and accommodating in every way. We would definitely stay here again. It was very clean and beautifully decorated. Murphy was a quaint and charming little town. We enjoyed shopping in some of the small gift shops and eating at some of the local restaurants. This was our first time to visit Murphy, but probably will not be our last.
