Beaufort house description
This house was originally built on the Marine base at Parris Island as a barrack. It was moved to Pigeon Point Road in the 1950's where it was converted to a residential home. We purchased it from that location in 2001 and moved to it's present one. It's original size was only 14' by 42 ' and the design is commonly referred to as a 'shotgun house' -- long and narrow. Upon it's arrival we began major renovation immediately adding two bedrooms and two bathrooms. It's evolution continued as we could manage with a second major change occurring in 2008 to accommodate our aging parents. More space and comfort was created by adding two bays to the living area. A a gas fireplace was installed in one bay to enhance the sitting area; the other bay provides a nice dinning area with floor to ceiling windows overlooking a flower garden and bird feeders. A walk-in shower was added to one of the baths and the screened porch on the back side of the house was expanded for outdoor seating. A coat closet was added in the hallway between the kitchen and dining room and doubles for extra linen storage. The home is now a full functioning house with roomy cathedral ceilings, ceiling fans and heart-pine flooring throughout -- complete with an authentic claw-foot bathtub just off the master bedroom. Each room is painted a yummy color compatible with the lowcountry surroundings which include a special installation of Eric's oversize lowcountry photographs on the walls - ever reminding guests of the extraordinary wildlife and natural scenics that surround them. Most people who walk in the front door for the first time fall in love with it.

The cottage is even better than the pictures. I've stayed at lots of VRBO's across the country and I've never stayed in one that was so clean and well stocked. It is just so nicely decorated and extremely comfortable. Huge closets and lots of storage. Eric's incredible photographs hang in every room. You won't regret this one. Thanks.

We love this place and tend it like one of our children...so it is always good news when guests find what they need and want ---esp from seasoned travellers as yourselves. We thank you for choosing our home and hope you will come again soon.

Great place to stay! This is a very cool little cottage that is very clean and comfortable and close to downtown. We went to Beaufort to see our son graduate from Marine boot camp in Parris Island. There were four of us and we all commented on how much we enjoyed being there. Even the two futons were fantastic and very comfortable. Highly recommended. We'll be back.

We stayed in this adorable, comfortable cottage with our 2 dogs in late October, and it was one of the very best vacations we have had in years. Our hosts, Eric and Jan, were very friendly and accommodating in a very unobtrusive way. We were pleased to get some advice on local kayaking from Eric who is an expert on the area waterways and we enjoyed his beautiful low country photography which is scattered throughout the cottage. The cottage is very well furnished and comfortable. The neighborhood is pleasant, quiet and dog friendly. We appreciate the chance to stay in this lovely place and would definitely come back. Thank you, Jan and Eric!

Wonderful Get Away
Wonderful Get Away
Thank you for the use of your beautiful rental while we attended my son's graduation from boot camp. It was close enough to the base to get there quickly and far enough to enjoy the peace and quiet of Beaufort. Plenty big for my mom, my daughter and my son. If I ever get back to Beaufort again, I will be sure to ask for this home again. Blessings to Eric and Jan and all who stay.

Bringing home our Marine! Semper Fi
Bringing home our Marine! Semper Fi
We were extremely happy with this lovely little cottage. Just right for our group of 5 with plenty of space for all. Very nicely supplied and neat and clean. The Horans are so very helpful. Just 15 minutes from PI, made our trips back and forth to the island to see our new Marine very convenient. Beds are comfortable, a well stocked kitchen, warms colors all make it easy to relax and catch your breath. We would love to come back with more time to enjoy the area. Highly recommended! Fat Patty's has great specialty burgers and craft beers. We even got involved with a trivia game. We also loved Docksiders in Port Royal for great seafood with a walk on the boardwalk to finish off the night.

Vacation in Beaufort
Vacation in Beaufort
We spent a week at this vacation home in July. The home was well appointed and very comfortable. It was on a nice, quiet street not far from a park for walking. We were pleased that such a nice property was also pat friendly. The house was in a perfect location for exploring Beaufort and the surrounding area.

1106 is a charmer!

This revitalized marine barracks has everything you need and that includes feeling like home. The owners are right next door so you know it is a home, not just a rental. The booking process, which was a new experience for us was painless through VRBO and the owners were accommodating and gracious to answer questions in advance. The cottage is beautiful, peaceful and short distance from Bay Street where we found a few really wonderful restaurants with excellent food, ambiance and outdoor seating overlooking the waterfront park. We would absolutely stay here again and recommend it for anyone visiting the area.

Great Place To Stay
Great Place To Stay
We stayed here for 5 days. This cottage worked great for us. It was just my husband and myself so we set up our luggage in one of the bedrooms. We could have used the great closet space but didn't. The house has everything you need. We went to the grocery store and purchased breakfast food and lunch stuff. The kitchen was well equipped to cook what we wanted. We sat on the front porch in the evening and enjoyed the breeze. . We slept on a mattress that was designed by NASA...it was very comfortable. We will stay here again as our grandson is going to college in Bluffton but it is worth the drive to stay here.

The cottage was wonderful for our first trip to explore the Beaufort area. We found it to be comfortable, clean and cozy. During our week there we visited Hunting Island, the Penn center, Pinckney wildlife refuge and sampled many of the local restaurants. All in all, we had a lovely vacation and would recommend this cottage to friends and family. Can't think of anything we found lacking! Thank you Jan & Eric for sharing!!

About the owner: Jan and I have been residents of Beaufort since 1996 and love it. I have been photographing nature & wildlife since college and establishing a commercial photography business in Hilton Head. Jan is a partner in the photo business bringing her artistry as writer, editor, office manager, gourmet cooking, tailoring and tennis coach -- whatever is needed! We met on Hilton Head Island in 1990 when Jan was bringing artists into the area schools, grant writing for the local arts council and raising two youngins. Our first venture together included partnering Jan's grant expertise and my recent photos from Africa into a traveling exhibition. A successful tour later led to marriage. Our travels and adventure continue. We love living on the coast and treasure the unique blend of rich cultural opportunities with extraordinary natural beauty and resources all around us.
Why the Owner Chose Beaufort:
This house, built on Paris Island and later moved to Pigeon Point road, now sits next door to our own home. We moved it here when it was in pretty sad shape but we could see it's potential. We wanted to fix it up into something special. A house different from all the rest - but would blend well in he neighborhood. The remodel was a labor of love and not without it's challenges as older homes can surprise you - once you strip it down to the bones. After it's initial remodel, we have rented the house long term, sold it, bought it back again for my parents to enjoy in their senior years, and now that they have moved on, we have refurnished the interior and made it suitable solely for vacation rental for guests, family and friends.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The house is designed to offer the comfort of home, easy to easy to relax and return to after a day of adventure exploring the classic southern lifestyle. From beach, golf, tennis and nature preserves, to city life in Beaufort, 30 minutes to discount shopping in Bluffton, 60 minutes to Hilton Head, Savannah, or Charleston... the choices are truly exciting. And everybody who stays here have complimented us on the accommodations, both internal with easy access to so much ...within walking distance or an easy drive. In the neighborhood, we are walking and biking distance to three parks, downtown shopping and dining in historic Beaufort, public tennis courts, two public boat landings and simply amazing water and marsh views. The drive to the beach is only 20 minutes to Hunting Island State Park where family picnic sites, surfing and swimming and hiking trails through the maritime forest are plentiful. There are many courses for golfers to choose beginning in Beaufort to neighboring Bluffton or onward 60 minutes away to world class golf on Hilton Head. We think we have the perfect vacation package for the whole family including pets with a dog park a dog's walk away.
