This house was originally built on the Marine base at Parris Island. Moved to Pigeon Point Road in the 50's and then moved again in 2001 to it's present location on Laudonniere St. It was just 14' by 42' (a shotgun house) . We added two bedrooms & two baths. In 2008 we added a fireplace bay and a dinning bay in the living room and two walk-in closets in the bedrooms + added a coat closet in the hallway. It is now a full functioning house with cathedral ceilings and fans throughout, heart pine flooring and even a claw-foot bathtub. Most people who walk in the front door for the first time fall in love with it.

Why the Owner Chose Beaufort

This house, built on Paris Island and later moved to Pigeon Point road, now sits next door to our own home. We moved it here when it was in pretty sad shape but we could see it's potential. We wanted to fix it up into something special. A house different from all the rest - but would blend well in he neighborhood. The remodel was a labor of love and not without it's challenges as older homes can surprise you once you strip it down to the bones. After it's initial remodel, we have rented the house long term, sold it, bought it back again for my parents to enjoy in their senior years, and now that they have moved on, we have refurnished the interior and made it suitable solely for vacation rental for guests, family and friends.

The Unique Benefits at this House

The house is designed to offer the comfort of home, easy to easy to relax and return to after a day of adventure exploring the classic southern lifestyle. From beach, golf, tennis and nature preserves, to city life in Beaufort, 30 minutes to discount shopping in Bluffton, 60 minutes to Hilton Head, Savannah, or Charleston... the choices are truly exciting to vacationers. And everybody who stays here have complimented us on the accomodations, both internal and easy access to so much within walking or an easy drive. In the neighborhood, we are walking and biking distance to three parks, downtown shopping and dining in historic Beaufort, public tennis courts, two public boat landings and simply amazing water and marsh views. The drive to the beach is only 20 minutes to Hunting Island State Park where family picnic sites, surfing and swimming and hiking trails through the maritime forest are plentiful. There are many courses for golfers to choose beginning in Beaufort to neighboring Bluffton or onward 60 minutes away to world class golf on Hilton Head. We think we have the perfect vacation package for the whole family including pets with a dog park a dog's walk away.

Owner's Map of Beaufort

Eric & Jan Horan have been residents of Beaufort since 1996 and love it. Eric is a well known nature photographer and Jan a talented artist, writer, seamstress, & gourmet cook! I met Jan on Hilton Head Island in 1990 when she was bringing artists into the area schools through the "Arts In Education" program, grant writing for the local arts council and raising two great kids. I was in need of a grant to help fund a traveling exhibition of my photographs from Africa. With Jan's help, I won the grant and held a successful photo exhibition. We later married and enjoy traveling and working together. We love living at the coast and especially here in the South Carolina lowcountry.

Fit Our Needs Perfectly!

Guest: Andy (Southern Pines, NC)

This house was immaculately clean. Very comfortable bed. Cute as a bunny rabbit. Near enough to downtown Beaufort. Nice floors. Quiet neighborhood. Tiny tv, only one shower, sofa sits like a church pew. Overall, a very good stay for two people. Four could be a little crowded.

Beautiful cottage for family to stay for Marine graduation

Guest: Darlene, Joe, & Ivy (Iowa City, IA)
Date of Stay: 10/05/11 Review Submitted: 10/10/11

We loved the beautiful cottage. It had everything we needed for our stay for the Marine graduation. My sister and family from New York and my husband and I from Iowa were able to really relax and easily travel to Parris Island (a 10 minute drive to the island at 5:30 am) for my nephew's graduation. Our dog loved the house and easily-walkable neighborhood. The huge closets were great for 5 people's stuff. The photos were wonderful for finding it in the dark on our first night. It was clean; Eric brought us more towels on request. A side trip to Savannah was easily done one evening. We bought shrimp at CJ's Seafood and cooked it for our supper our last evening--everything we needed was supplied in the kitchen. There are several enticing restaurants in the area. I recommend renting again!

Our home, while waiting for our house to be built

Guest: Catherine (Now in Beaufort (formerly Ashburn, Va))
Date of Stay: 07/15/11 Review Submitted: 08/31/11

My husband and I spent one month in this Pidgeon Point cottage this year, while waiting for our new house in Beaufort to be finished. The accommodations were perfect for our two spaniels and us. The living/dining area is a good size, as are the two bedrooms. The large walk in closest were especially useful since we had brought quite a few things for our one month stay. The kitchen is very workable and there is plenty of counter space and anything you might need for cooking meals. The area is terrific. We took our dogs for very long walks every day and were awed by the neighborhood, as well as downtown Beaufort (which is less than 2 miles away) and the homes in The Point, less than one mile away. The cottage felt like home the first night we were there and it made our move far less stressful than if we had stayed in a hotel. I was working from the cottage and the Internet connection we had installed worked perfectly fine. I would highly recommend this charming home to any Beaufort visitors.

Charm, Location and Great Photography

Guest: DMT (Alexandria, Virginia)
Date of Stay: 08/22/10 Review Submitted: 10/06/10

We (my wife and I and our 2-year old) recently spent a wonderful week in the cottage enjoying Beaufort and the Low Country. Eric and Jan were perfect hosts - they never intruded though we knew that they were right next door if we needed them. For those who enjoy cooking, there is a full range of kitchen utensils and pots and pans. The neighborhood is quiet, and the cottage makes a great base of operations for your exploration of Beaufort and the Low Country. The cottage is charming and was the perfect size for the three of us. And last but not least, as someone who is an avid photographer, Eric is one of the best I've seen, and some of his stunning nature photography graces the walls of the cottage. The photographs and the cottage serve as a unique introduction to the natural beauty and wonders of the Low Country.

Perfect for Marines graduate families & vacation!!!

Guest: Angie (Eldorado Illinois)
Date of Stay: 09/12/10 Review Submitted: 09/19/10

We just got back today from a wonderful week long stay at this cottage. We came for my daughters Parris Island graduation. It was very cute & clean!! It had everything you needed to make you confortable & feel like you were at home. It has all the kitchen necessities to cook meals & clean up afterwards. It has much more room than it appears in the pictures. Very well decorated also! I loved the artwork & wall colors. It is located in a quiet neighborhood. Close enough to downtown for convenience but far enough away from traffic noise. There is a nearby park for the kiddies also. The owner is very nice & helpful, but also provides you with your privacy for an enjoyful stay. Beaufort is located in the center of most of the area attractions & is a perfect place for a wonderful vacation. I would love to come to come back again!! No more hotels for me. VRBO is wonderful!!

Great Getaway

Guest: Anonymous
Date of Stay: 07/26/10 Review Submitted: 08/04/10

We recently made a return visit to Beaufort for a 4 day getaway. We had stayed at Hunting Island previously, but the erosion had destroyed our rental there. We were fortunate to find this great accommodation in town. Very spacious, well located and every attention to detail (cleanliness, equipment, artwork), made this a perfect stay.Great neighborhood for a walk, especially to see the beautiful early morning sunrise. It was nice having quick access to town and we made the trip out to Hunting Island in under a half an hour. We would definitely return for a visit. Very close by we enjoyed Shoofly for a quick lunch and SuZara's for wonderful take away bread and deserts. Great hosts.

A Home Away From Home...

Guest: Michie_L (Boone, NC)
Date of Stay: 04/07/10 Review Submitted: 04/28/10

We stayed in this house when my brother graduated from Parris Island. The house is absolutely adorable and immaculate. Very cozy and comes with everything you could possibly need. We felt right at home and so did our dogs. House is in a great location... has a neighborhood feel, yet close to town, water and attractions (best one being the Museum at Parris Island!). Owners are very helpful and even offered us a military discount. Thanks Eric and Jan for allowing us to rent your wonderful property!

Owner response:Michelle, Thank you so much for your glowing review of our house. Of course ya'll were the perfect guests so the feeling are mutual and you are welcome anytime!
