Unique Rustic Log House in Jardine, Montana
- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:No
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Enjoy the relaxing and fun atmosphere of this one of a kind log house. It is tucked in the mountains at the “end of the road” in the old mining town of Jardine, Montana, which is 6 miles northeast of Gardiner – the north entrance to Yellowstone Park. This place offers a nice balance between seclusion and easy access to endless sightseeing, wildlife viewing, and outdoor recreation opportunities.
This property is located next to a guest ranch/outfitting business, Specimen Creek Outfitters. Services include daily/hourly horseback rides ***offering a complimentary 2 hour horseback ride to the folks who stay here***, as well as pack trips, fishing trips, and hunting trips into the Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness. You can literally walk out the front door and go horseback riding. Or you can sit on the porch with your coffee and watch the saddle horses and pack mule strings come and go.
The North Fork of Bear Creek is only about 100 yards below. It is a beautiful mountain stream and the fishing is good! Nights are quiet and peaceful. And the night sky is brilliant – take time to gaze at the stars.
This house is rustic and has lots of character. It is clean and cozy, but the layout and decor aren’t too fussy or uptight. The original portion of the house was built in 1994 with logs skidded out of the forest with a team of Percheron horses and peeled by hand. It includes an open kitchen with appliances and dishes. There is a deck where you can kick back and take in the scenery. One bathroom has an antique clawfoot tub. There is a loft/bedroom with a homemade queen size log bed. There is a nice sounding old piano for the fun of it.
A versatile 'great' room, which includes a bar (with sink, fridge and TV) and a full bathroom was added on to the house in 2001, and it is ideal for entertaining and hanging out. There are antlers, tanned hides, antiques, etc. throughout the house – sort of a hunting lodge/western theme. There is a large yard with trees, a picnic table, and a firepit. The native wildflowers are beautiful and plentiful. And various species of birds and wildlife will share this property with you.
There are also two convertible sofa beds in addition to a bedroom and the loft. The unique floor plan of this home can easily and comfortably accommodate a group of 8. This property is kid friendly and your well behaved pets are welcome too!

This review is very late in coming. We stayed at the house from June the 18th to the 23rd. What an experience. Beautiful home quiet, excellent for a wonderful get away. Just a few miles from the north entrance of yellowstone. The stream was beautiful could sit on the front porch and hear it. Made us want to stay longer. If we go back Iwill stay there again. The hosts were great. My husband wishes it was closer so we could stay there more. It had everything you needed and then some. Thank you for letting us stay there. The rating has only5star I would give it 10 .Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The cabin was super clean and neat. The owner has thought of everything you might need - we cooked most meals here and the kitchen was well-stocked with basic food supplies and had all the kitchen tools we needed. Love the big claw foot tub after a day of hiking. The complimentary trail ride was great - wonderful views. Our 7 and 12 year old boys enjoyed the creek very much. It would take us about 10 minutes to get to Gardiner and most days, we saw Elk on the drive in to Gardiner or back "home". Owner answered emails promptly and was very helpful in answering questions. We had a great time - can you tell?Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

This cabin was wonderful! Very clean with lovely personal touches. The owners could not have been more friendly or accommodating. We took advantage of a beautiful and peaceful trail ride with Speciman Creek outfitters who were generous with their time and experience. We look forward to another visit!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We absolutely loved our experience. Our girls loved being able to see horses every day, the boys loved the adventure of the property, and it was a great base for us to explore Yellowstone from. Certainly off the beaten path, but worth the extra drive for us.Recommended for: Families with young children, adventure seekers, families with teenagers.

A great find in a beautiful remote location with great wilderness views. Intesting surroundings and activity of a horseback riding western outpost (yet quiet). Comfortable, well-equipped.cabin, accurately described, clean and wll maintained. Nice people to deal with. About five miles up in the hills from town, restaurants, etc., and the entrance to Yellowstone National Park. We would recommend this property to a friend or relative. We hope to return.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Becky was great. We loved the cabin. My kids played on the stairs and practiced piano every morning. The ride to the cabin can be a bit bumpy but we made it there fine in our mini-van, although I would really recommend 4-wheel drive in the rainy or snowy season! The sleeping arrangements were great for me and my 5 kids and the kitchen was wonderful! It was about a 30 minute drive to Mammoth (but we do drive slow) and we were able to see everything in Yellowstone we wanted to see in the week we were there. It is a MARVELOUS base camp for seeing the big game because being on the North entrance, you leave early (when they are out) and come home late (when they are out) and we saw 7 bears, tons of elk and bison, deer, sandhill crane, bald eagles, osprey, and many more. It's just a great place for a family vacation!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, families with teenagers.

This is a perfect base from which to explore Yellowstone Park and the surrounding area. We were only minutes from Yellowstone, yet we were on the edge of the Wilderness. We had all the comforts of home along with tranquility and spectacular views. And with Bear Creek only a minute walk from the cabin, I was able to indulge in some very enjoyable flyfishing. Shopping and dining were very convenient because we drove through Gardiner on our way to and from the Yellowstone Park entrance. We have already recommended this property to friends and we are planning on returning ourselves. This property greatly exceeded our expectations.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+.
