Unlike many tropical places where the coolest accommodations are at the beach, here it is just the opposite. The chocolate colored volcanic sands are HOT at night & also bring out the nightly no see ums. It is far more comfortable to stay at a place which is elevated from the beach & captures the cool breezes & cooler air of the rainforest. Enjoy the beautiful beaches minutes away but come home to cool nights & reliable electricity (all lodging at the beach in Puerto Jimenez and south like Matapalo, Carate use only alternative electricity. This generally means that if you leave an IPOD, laptop or camera plugged in, you have no refrigerator (IF they have a refrigerator-which some do not)or fans for the night). We lessen our carbon footprint by being only minutes (rather than an hour or more) from groceries, banks, restaurants, etc. All grid power in Costa Rica is 80% hydro so you still lessen your footprint! We built our homes not cutting a single tree! They were gifts during the rainstorms of Hurricane Mitch in 1999. The Lapa's House, our 3000 sq.ft. open air home has a great ocean view with a fabulous private swimming pool. The rainforest literally comes right into our home and monkeys & birds pass by each day. Our main level has a great living room, dining and kitchen open air design, and can accommodate any family, group or gathering nicely. The master bedroom is luxurious with a huge California king size poster bed, screened in with a private patio and tropical hardwood floors from fallen trees within the reserve. Outside the master bedroom is an open air bathroom w/ Jacuzzi tub. The large kitchen includes a Jenn Air Grille, oven, refrigerator and microwave. The monkeys, parrots and hummingbirds visit us daily and the animals literally come right up to our home. Our 2 level / 3 bedroom / vacation home is perfect for families, couples and reunions.

We also have a Disney inspired, authentic Swiss Family Robinson syle, fully modern tree house 50 feet in the air, which is available to those over 6 years old! This isan additional, optional rental to either combine with Lapa's Home or rent individually. This Lapa's Nest tree house home is also fully furnished, has a fully furnished LARGE kitchen 2 full baths (one with glass bottom shower) and can be rented as a 3 BR sleeping 6 guests in 3 queen size rooms, or a 4 BR sleeping 8 with a king size master bedroom. For larger groups both Lapa's House & Lapa's Nest Treehouse can be combined to sleep between 18-24 guests. This is an unbelievably different & unique accommodation for your dream Costa Rica vacation home away from home! We also have a third home available only to larger groups who want to rent the entire reserve for a function- we can accommodate up to 24 total with a larger group. This third home is not available separately.

All 3 homes are on the 120 acre private reserve and each home is totally separate & private form the others. You'll never even know if there are other guests Both are located on opposite sides of the property guests. Pools are private, private parking too. Only hiking trails are shared.

Activities include, waterfall hikes, kayaking, beachcombing, tree climbing, horseback riding, and my favorite- swimming with the dolphins. Located just 10 minutes North of Puerto Jimenez. The nicest beaches are only minutes away. Great Waterfall just up the river and Corcovado National Parks just 2 hours hike or just look at it from our back yard.

Private catering & chef, babysitting, guide all available. Very close to all Corcovado adventures- we look at Corcovado to our west view. The Gulfo Dulce is our east view.

  • Air Conditioning : Contact us for Video Link! In Lapa's House. One bedroom is air conditioned though it is cooler at night off the beach- you might not want to use it at all! The Lapa's Nest tree house needs no AC. Houses can be rented together or separately
  • Linens Provided : All bed linens, bath linens, kitchen linens are provided. beach towels are for use on the property ONLY so you may want to bring your own beach towels.
  • Washer : Housekeeper does your laundry up to 4 loads free to guests, after that $3 load washed,dried,folded & delivered
  • Dryer : Housekeeper does laundry for you free up to 4 loads per week at cleaning day. We use only the solar dryer during high season when it is dry, warm & sunny most every day
  • Wood Stove : Outdoor wood grille & outdoor chimenea at Lapa's House.

  • Broadband Internet : Is available but it is not always reliable since this is the jungle! So if you bring a laptop, bring ONLY one per group, you are only 10 min from town & internet cafes while out. Internet does not always work so be prepared for this
  • WiFi (Wireless Internet) : Remember, it is not always available & sometimes the signal is weak- but when it works it is GREAT! It is a monopoly here so it is the SAME SERVICE EVERYWHERE. You will not get better service anywhere!

  • Luxury Costa Rica Treehouse also available for rental- email for more details, photos & video tour. Sleeps up to 8, rainforest, ocean views. Houses can be combined for larger groups. TOTAL PRIVACY! Neither house shares amenities other than hiking trails. Neither is within sight of the other. Most times our guests do not know if there are other guests since each home is on opposite sides of the property! THIS IS PRIVACY!
• Suitability
  • Pet Friendly : Please notify us if you are travelling with a pet prior to arrival- we have our own dogs here so we need to know if you are bringing a pet.
  • Handicapped Accessible (may have limitations) : Lapa's House ground level can be accessed with wheel chair but top level is not accessible to wheel chairs. Tree house is NOT handicapped accessible. Sorry.
  • Wheelchair Accessible (may have limitations) : Wheelchair is accessible to complete lower level- yard,bedrooms & living, bath/kitchen all on lower level
  • Kid Friendly
  • Not Suitable for Children : Suitable for children over toddler age. The Lapa's house is not childproof at all! But is good at lower level for babies of all ages since it is all at ground level. Treehouse is good for children over age 5. Great for the BIG kids! Tree house IS NOT SUITABLE FOR Diaper age children. (you can decide if your child is suitable at age4 or 5 for this accommodation). The Lapa's House is great for younger children but NOT the tree house.
