A Perfect Family Getaway!

Guest: Emma C.
Date of Stay: 01/06/12 Review Submitted: 01/10/12

We picked Raquette River Lodge for a family getaway and I am so pleased that we did! There was plenty of room for our family of 13 people which included small children and a baby. Even in the midst of Winter, we were so warm and comfortable and there was plenty to keep everyone entertained. We made good use of the hot tub, snow shoes and the large kitchen. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable. The loft worked out perfectly for the 3 older children and one of the Queen sized rooms allowed plenty of space for the babies crib. The extra long dining table enabled us to enjoy meals together as a family which was one of the reasons we wanted to take a weekend away. The owners were very helpful throughout the entire process and we will definately be back. Would definately recommend Raquette River for anyone looking to experience privacy, serenity and amenities to reconnect family and friends.

Peaceful haven

We spent there several days between Christmas and New Year's. In spite of a lack of any substantial snow coverage (we rented with the hopes of skiing), we had a fantastic time. The lodge is very well appointed and cozy. The kitchen was very well supplied with all needed utensils. With the exception of beds that could have better covers, everything else was clean, well maintained and functional. The hot tub is definitely a huge attraction and I can see it being so at any time of the year - we sat there in a something of an icy squall. The view from most windows is really nice and a nearby river (looks more like a lake) offers beautiful vistas at any time of the year. Our hosts were incredibly attentive and accomodating. Our friends from Canada were coming on Christmas day and given the ban on most food stuff from Canada, and closed stores on Christmas day in the US, they would be chewing on bark if not for Donna and her staff who went grocery shopping for my friends according to the shopping list they provided. Clearly over and beyond what is normally expected. I also want to thank Donna and John for their farsightedness: on the last day one of our friends left his car doors open and his car battery died. We were ready to help out but nobody had jumper cables: nobody that is except Donna and John who had them conveniently stored for just such occasions. We were rescued from a very unpleasant delay in our departure. Once again, Thank you guys for thinking ahead!! Lake Placid is nearby (~1 h drive) and if one so desires, one can find all kinds of interesting restaurant venues (we recommend Liquids and Solids). Hiking trails are also close by. If winter comes all kinds of winter activities are possible, and judging by all kinds of trophies on the walls one can hunt there as well. Most of all, it is peaceful, beautiful, and quiet. A real gem in the woods.

Owner response:We appreciate the wonderful review you wrote and the time you put into telling about your experience at the Lodge. We also thank you for bringing to our attention the poor condition of some of the bed covers. When we read your review, we went to the Lodge and were embarrassed that you were entirely right! We have ordered a number of new bed covers and have asked our staff to be more aware of such important details.

amazing time in a secluded getaway

My wife and I spent a fantastic three days here. This place was very well appointed and very inviting. Sitting in the hot tub on a cold winters day was extremely pleasant, we even had a bald eagle fly over us while we were having a soak. The property was well appointed and even had snow shoes. Unfortunately there was no snow to use them. The house has everything you could want for a romantic getaway for two and the space to accommodate a large family.

Spring Break

What a wonderful experience! There was 11 of us all together and we had a magnificent time. We thoroughly enjoyed the peace and quiet, the serenity and the stillness that The Lodge offers. It snowed or rained 6 out of the 7 days we were there but it did not matter...The kids still explored, kayaked, canoed and played volleyball. Thank you so much for sharing your place with us! We definitely want to come back.

Wonderful, Wonderful, Wonderful!

We stayed at Raquette Lodge for our annual girls getaway. There were 15 of us in total. This Lodge is absolutely beautiful, comfortable and well equipped. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was equipped with everything we needed to prepare our meals. We made full use of the amenities including the hot tub, the pontoon boat and the indoor and outdoor fireplaces. It is large enough that we never felt crowded and the best thing was that the living area is large enough to accomodate our group in one space so that we could all spend time together. The dining table is large and comfortably fit our group. The property itself is beautiful, clean and well kept. It is very private which was nice that we felt we were in our own paradise and we did not have to worry about bothering neighbours. There is a small grocery store just around the corner from the lodge that had everything you could possibly need. There is also a nice antique shop just around the corner that is nice for browsing. I would recommend this Lodge with no hesitation for large groups or families.

Wonderful Getaway!!

After staying at a few of John and Donna's other properties over the past few years, we rented the Lodge for a beautiful fall weekend in October. As with their other properties, it was wonderful; well-maintained, full of character, and well- appointed. The layout was great for a large group of people and we spent the rainy days inside playing games and visiting near the large fire place. We also enjoyed the sprawling grounds and amenities. We are looking forward to our next stay!

Breathtaking Family Retreat

Guest: 3 Generations (Pennsylvania)
Date of Stay: 06/26/10 Review Submitted: 07/04/10

Our family just returned from a week long vacation at Raquette Lodge. There were 16 of us ranging in age from 77 to 20. The lodge was absolutely spectacular. We were visited by loons, bald eagles, deer and the beaver who lives next door. Even though the weather didn't cooperate until the last day, we fished, hiked, climbed, played volleyball, sat in the hot tub and just hung out by the fire. Everything was as promised. We were already planning next year's trip as we were walking out the door to go home. We would definitely recommend this place. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to stay here.

Great Family Place!

Guest: P.K.E. (Henderson Harbor, NY)
Date of Stay: 03/19/10 Review Submitted: 03/26/10

We had 6 adults and 6 kids with plenty of room for everyone. The beautiful property had something for everyone - those in the hot tub could watch a rousing game of Boccie in a light snow, while the kids explored the property. Very quiet location with ample room in the house to be as engaged with or disconnected from the rest of the group as the mood struck. The huge dining table was perfect for full sit-down meals as well as games and arts and crafts. The loft with 3 beds was great for the kids. We slept 4 up there. The loft looks bigger in the pictures, and would be tight for more than 3 adults. The skylights were great for ventilation and would be perfect for a moonlit night. A great place we hope to return to next year.

We had a great time. We wished we had brought more family and friends. Its really warm and homey. We could here the kids talking upstairs as if they were in our bedroom. That was alittle weird. But, the bedrooms and bathrooms and living room were all beautiful. We brought our snowmobiles there and a few miles away found great, groomed trails. The big room was great for hanging out and connecting. They evan had the latest movie video releases.

I wanted to let you know we enjoyed our stay at the Lodge (1/8 – 1/15/10). You have done a great job with this rental. We found the nearby snowmobile trails, did a lot of snowshoeing, cross country skiing at the nearby park, skating in town, enjoyed the fireplace and the conveniences of the home. The activities are too numerous to mention all of them. This is a very comfortable home for a group. We plan to return. Thank you.

Beautiful Getaway!

Guest: TM18 (Albany, NY)
Date of Stay: 12/27/09 Review Submitted: 01/08/10

Raquette River Lodge was an excellent vacation getaway. The lodge is even more impressive than what you see through the pictures. We were a large group of adults with kids ranging from 1 to 7, and we were never cramped or uncomfortable. The lodge is beautifully rustic and modern at the same time. We took advantage of the outdoor options like hiking, skiing, sledding, and fishing during the days, and enjoyed the warmth of the house and Hot Tub in the evenings. Mr. and Mrs. Clark were a pleasure to work with. They were always available, and more than willing to provide what was needed. We especially appreciated having an abundance of supplies rather than the bare minimum. Plenty of firewood, BBQ gas, kitchen / cooking supplies, etc.. We never felt like we were missing anything. I would highly recommend this remote and private vacation spot to anyone looking for an adirondack vacation. We already cant wait to return! Thanks for everything!

Family Get Together

What a perfect place! We recently stayed at the Raquette Lodge for a Thanksgiving Family Get Together. We were impressed by the cleanliness and space in the lodge. The kitchen was well stocked for all our cooking needs, the beds were extremely comfortable, the dining room table sat all of us and the amenities were ideal. We particularly enjoyed the indoor shuffleboard and covered porch. We were also fortunate enough to get a break from the rain and enjoy the jacuzzi and star-filled sky. How perfect was the lodge? Perfect enough we are going back next summer for another reunion! Thanks John and Donna for a wonderful stay! Best Always! Ed

Fantastic experience! Perfect for large groups!

We spent a weekend at the Raquette Lodge with a large group. We could not have asked for a more beautiful, private, and memorable location! It was spacious, clean, and stunning, and the owners were a pleasure to work with. We honestly could not have imagined finding a more perfect spot in all of the Adirondacks, especially not for such a reasonable price. We had many outdoor enthusiasts in our group, who were all thrilled by the easy hiking, kayaking, and canoeing access. Others simply enjoyed relaxing by the fireplace or taking in the gorgeous views from the hot tub. Truly a fabulous spot for large families or groups. We have already gotten many phone calls from people in our group asking how soon we can all go back! Thanks for a truly memorable and wonderful experience.

Awesome, secluded, family getaway

We found this place as was described, and then some more. The house was clean, spacious and nicely furnished. The owner was easily accessible by phone and answered questions as needed. By far the greatest highlight was the out of doors. We enjoyed the seclusion, the wildlife and the water. Our family especially enjoyed exploring the the surrounding water by using kayaks a canoe and the pontoon boat. The sand volleyball court was a great addition. My 10 yo and 13 yo say, "tell everyone they should not miss a chance to go to the Raquette Lodge."

A group of 10 friends all spent an incredible week at the Raquette River Lodge in August 2009. We've been vacationing as a group for a few years and found this place to be absolutly perfect for what we're looking for. Space to be with one another with no distractions along with unreal views and house to fit all of us. Between the large yard, and pontoon boat we kept ourselfs busy. It was just nice to be with people you love to be with and not have to worry about the rest of the world. Time stood still for our week at the lodge. We have already begun planning our next trip, next year and plan on carrying this tradtion on for years to come. You are missing out if you pass on chance to stay at the Raquette Rive Lodge!

Great Winter Retreat!

Guest: Chloe A. (Gainesville, FL)
Date of Stay: 03/01/08 Review Submitted: 03/18/08

The Raquette River Lodge was the absolute perfect place to stay in the winter. We had an amazing time just making fires in the fireplace and playing games in the cabin, but there was plenty to do between the games, books, TV, DVD, hot tub, and outdoor volleyball court if you dare play snow volleyball like we did! The cabin is very spacious, as we fit 6 people comfortably and could have fit 6 more without going too crazy. The beds and couches couldn't have been more comfortable, and everything in the cabin seemed new and clean. The location was great too: we were 15 minutes from real civilization, 5 minutes to beautiful hiking trails, skiing at Lake Placid only an hour or so away, and only 2 hours from Canada's capital (we did it all!). The view of the frozen river and evergreen forest was spectacular, and we felt like we had all of nature to ourselves. The owners were very helpful, giving us firewood, detailed instructions on how to work everything, and directions to the nearest stores and hiking trails. They even had a snow plow service for the driveway so we didn't have to shovel! They were happy to answer all of our little questions while we were at the cabin as well. It was truly a Winter Wonderland experience for an amazing price!
