The vineyards are some of the best in the US and similar to southern France. Arizona Vineyards is a popular roadside attraction in Nogales on the way to Mexico. Located less than one hour from the resort, the wines are unique and have classic Southwestern names such as Rattlesnake Red, Desert Dust and Coyote Red. (520) 287-7972.
1830 E. Patagonia Hwy., Rt. 82, Nogales
I-19 south to Exit 289 then turn left on E. Ruby Rd. Turn right on Pendleton Dr. then right on Circulo Montana. Make a right on Patagonia Lake Rd. and left onto AZ-82. Another way to go through Nogales is to Exit 4 on I-19 and turn east onto Magnolia and make a right hand turn at Grant (Fast Gas Station) and go 1 mile to Highway AZ-82.
About an hour south of Tucson, the Callaghan Vineyards have been producing award-winning wines for over fifteen years. Owner Kent Callaghan aptly named his 17-acre vineyard “Buena Suerte” (or “Good Luck” in Spanish) and has won many kudos for his fine wines, including the highly-praised 1996 Fumé Blanc. The winery is open Friday thru Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (520) 455-5322.
336 Elgin Rd., Elgin
I-10 to Exit 281 then take Route 83 thru Sonoita. Go four miles to Elgin Rd., then turn left at the “Elgin Wine Country” sign and go three more miles to the vineyard.
Another winery near Mr. Callaghan’s establishment is the Sonoita Vineyards. Co-owner Dr. Gordon Dutt was a soil scientist at the University of Arizona when he and A. Blake Brophy established their first experimental vineyard in 1973. They found that the high altitude (5,000 feet) soil is nearly identical to the soils of Burgundy, France. The 20-acre vineyard now produces over 10,000 gallons per year. Their 1986 Cabernet Sauvignon had the distinction of being served at the White House. The winery is open 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., seven days a week. (520) 455-5893.
H.C. 1, Box 33, Elgin

Four miles past the Village of Elgin Vineyards, turn right at the Sonoita Vineyards sign. Proceed 2.5 miles to the vineyard. You can also go I-19 and get off at Exit 4 (Mangolia) and turn left. Make a left 1 mile to Highway 82 and go past Patagonia to Sonoita. Turn to Elgin Rd to go to the wineries.

- There are lots of things to do all year around. The state and national parks are wonderful to visit to see the early history of the area when the Spanish first came. Jaun Baptista de Anza came here on October 1775 and is very famous. The Titan Missile Museum, Old Historic Towns and Villages and Bars of Rural Arizona. Has ten nearby golf courses. At the first Friday of the month, there are art walks in Tubac and most of the time there is live music in the square. The art in the studios and shops are wonderful and there are many items that you can get that are from Mexico. There is also a Duty Free Store just prior to entering Mexico and they have a wide selections of perfumes and liquors. There is wonderful bakeries in Tubac and Rio Rico, so plan on eating well and doing lots of outdoor activities to work it off. The birding is some of the best in the country....moreless

The home is perfect for a quiet getaway and to explore the Southern Arizona area...but the best parts are the views. This home is situated so that sunrise and sunset are 360 degree shows of spectacular beauty. The area is very quiet and is in a "free range" area. Don't be surprised if cattle show up on the road in road in front of the house or in the side yard! We were very comfortable in this home.

Owner response: I am so glad that you enjoyed my home. I hope that the roadrunner and hummingbirds came to visit you too. There is an array of birds at this time as they are flying down from the northern cold areas to the warmth. Thanks for visiting and do come again.....

We are an older couple from northern Arizona who thoroughly enjoyed Maryann's handicapped accessible home. The home was spotless and bright and near great birding areas and restaurants. The climate was perfect. We appreciated the internet to keep in touch with our family, and the helpful landlady nearby. Without question, we will return for a longer stay in the near future!

We came back for another visit to this wonderful vacation home. We had a great time visiting Old Tucson, wineries, old missions, museums, and of coarse, the art. Again, the the place extremely peaceful and we loved the views. The house remained very clean and modern, there is also now TV for something to do at night when we were not looking at the impressive stars! We plan to return again sometime soon.

Owner response: Thank you both. It was wonderful that you enjoyed this area a second time. Ranger seemed to like it too.
My wife and I stayed here for 5 nights and we enjoyed the house immensely. It's very clean and spacious at such a good price. Maryann has thought of everything you will need for a relaxing pleasant stay. It was very quiet and the weather is so amazing. We really enjoyed our time visiting this part of Arizona. Maryann was so thoughtful and helpful in promptly returning some valuables to us by courier that we forgot. Thanks so much Maryann!

Places to Go and Things to Do in Awesome Climate
My husband and another couple stayed at this home and found a paradise and great retreat to spend early December. Everyday, we went to different places nearby. Madera Canyon is a wonderful place to walk around. The observatory nearby was also nice. The night skies let us see a great array of stars and some planets. We brought our telescopes and were in wonder of the clear night skies. The home was private and nice and we all enjoyed it tremendously. There was many air and space museums close by as well as the Biosphere. My husband needed a home without stairs and we found this home to be perfect. The back courtyard did not have stairs either. This is the perfect time of year and we had warm temperatures and sunny skies during the day. Thank you, Mary Ann!

Maryanns house made our five week stay in Arizona the perfect holiday for us. Clean well maintained and equipped we wanted for nothing. It was a wonderfal area to be based in with lots of things to do and places to explore. The Wineries in Sonoita are a must (make sure you have a designated driver!) The town of Douglas and the Slaughter Ranch, Bizbee, Madera Canyon, are all within an easy drive and well worth the effort. We found some good eating places Marias in Tubac served excellent breakfast, the Cow Palace a very friendly family run resturant with a good varied menu and of course the famous Wisdoms. Best of all for us was at the end of a long day of exploring we had Maryanns wondeful house to come back to, thank you Maryann, see you next year!

We just returned from a delightful week's stay in this great house. Very comfortable and clean, in a beautiful and pristine setting. All we could ask in a rental house, with a good price too.

This is a well maintained property. It is very clean and private. Great for cylcing and night strolls. We had good sense of security with the street lights, but were able to gaze upon the constellations. Thanks.

We stayed for in May for 2 nights. The house was great - very nice and clean, well equipped, fenced in lot. Nice views of the Mountains. A nice drive to the propety on a good road, bringing you to the location. Out in the country, yet neighbors near by so you dont feel completely isolated. We set up our telescope and enjoyed the stars at night. During the day, we visited Tubac, Patagonia, Sonoita and the vineyards there. Had a nice lunch at the Velvet Elvis in Patagonia. I would definitely return and recommend. thanks MaryAnne!

About the owner: Maryann is originally from Southern California. She grew up near Playa del Rey and has traveled throughout Mexico, Central America and northern South America, and Alaska. She has also traveled through Spain, France, Germany, Cyprus and around Calgery, Canada. . She enjoys birding near the Santa Cruz River and hiking. She teaches Culinary Arts at the Rio Rico High School and has over 95 students. She has been a professor at Northern Arizona University and at the University of Southern Mississippi. She is a mom and has two daughters and two sons all whom enjoy this location to hike, golf, and to hang out and relax.
Why the Owner Chose Tubac:
I built this home originally for myself, but since it only has only a 2 car garage, I decided on building another one that has a 3 car garage. I live in this same area as I enjoy star gazing and bird watching and walking in the wilderness. It is close to Madera Canyon where there are pine trees. The evenings always have a nice, gentle breeze and you can look forward to sunny, pristine skies that are some common in Arizona. I love the birdwatching from almost every window in the house.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
If you like to see the stars that are visible from the dark, clear skies of this area, this is the area for you. There are also a lot of wild life in the area and there is the faint sound of an occasional train in the valley below. The Tumaccari Mountains and Elephant Rock can been seen from this location and the sunsets and sunrises are superior. Tubac has a unique feel to it with rich culture of Spain, Mexico and Arizona and it has many fun and historical places. There is a festival of the lights Dec 4-6th and an art walk on that Friday. There is a new HD 32 inch Sony TV with Dish Satellite Service. There is another HD TV in the office!
