This cabin was everything and more. The decor is beautiful and the twig chandelier was such a great added feature. The kitchen is definitely well stocked and has all you could want for yummy meals at home. The art and all the fun details really added to the charming character. The beds were comfy and the hot tub was great at night. But the view is the best part.. just WOW! Watching the sunset is an incredible experience and a true sight. But the color of the mountains and the peace and quite that surrounds the cabin is just perfect. Oh and nothing beats a good rocking chair! Definitely a step drive up and down and would be tricky in winter! But we traveled with a 4x wheel drive suv so it wasn't too bad. I am amazed to see perhaps a few locals buzz by in their smaller cars! Also you are a little bit away from any grocery/gas/food location, a good 15 miles, but there is a great bbq place called Countryside. Definitely a great eatery. The Biltmore took about 40 minutes to get to just because of the drive up the mountain and stretch to I40. But overall, such an amazing experience. So relaxing and cozy. The couch on the porch is a perfect place to snuggle! We even had breakfast out on the porch and it was such a lovely treat!! I would recommend this property over and over and would love to return in the future!!

My husband, college-age son and I just returned from a long weekend at The Retreat and what a special place to spend recharging our batteries!! We rent 2-3 vacation homes a year through VRBO and this is one of our favorites! The descriptions and photos, while perfectly accurate, can't begin to convey the breathtaking views and simple solitude that left us completely rested after such a short stay. We knew from the description that we wouldn't want to leave once we were there, so we brought several prepared meals and lots of wine. We did hike Chimney Rock and visit the Lake Lure area. It was the height of apple season so we enjoyed the local vendors and some of the freshest apple cider I've ever tasted. Every evening was topped off with an incredible sunset and later a hot tub experience under the stars!!! So many stars! We learned just before our trip that the owners were going to be selling this treasure. We hope that whoever buys it will continue to list it on VRBO because we want to come back next year! Beautiful retreat!!!

This cabin and views were amazing!! We spent our anniversary at the "Retreat" and can't wait to visit again! The owner was focused on ensuring we would have a Great visit, treated us like friends and encoureaged us to spend our time as if the cabin was ours. There was many things to see and do in the nearby area. I would strongly recommend the "Retreat" for those who want to spend time in the mountains, be it a long weekend or extended stay. Thanks for allowing us to share your cabin!

This place should be featured in some sort of magazine: Traveling or design/decorating or mountain ... any one of those or maybe all three. The place is EXACTALLY the as it is pictured here! What you can't see is how comfy the beds are, or how awesome the coffee taste while sipping it on the back porch, or how beautiful the view is at is at twilight. We stayed 5 nights and could have probably stayed another 5 nights!!! We grilled nearly every night and cooked breakfast every morning (the kitchen has everything you need!)... really had no desire to leave...but we had a 6 year old with us... and I think she would have gone stir crazy if we stayed 'home' each day (though there is satellite tv - and she did enjoy that!!!). The drive UP the mountain is a bit scary... actually VERY scary to me, but my husband handled it quite well in our 2007 front wheel drive minivan. It did take about 20 minutes to drive up the 3 miles (and about the same driving down each day)... so that should be built into one's estimate when traveling. The road is well maintained for a gravel road, but it is a gravel road with some very steep inclines with blind hair pin turns. YEP! Scary... but doable! My husband successfully did it four times (we did choose to stay 'home' one of our 5 days). I'm not sure what it would be like in winter or during a heavy rain. It is remote! Which is a great thing when wanting to get away from it all (I did NOT use my laptop at all while we were there... and my AT&T 3G service was spotty... but I was OK with that!!!) However, it did take a bit to get to some area 'attractions' - Chimney Rock, Lake Lure, Tom's Creek Fall, Linville Falls, Grandfather Mountain, Lake James - first you have to factor in the drive up and down the mountain and then another hour+ to the other locations. Would we go back? YES! But without our daughter... we would go for a long weekend - just the two of us (or maybe another couple) and just 'hang out'! It's beautiful, peaceful, relaxing...truly The Retreat!

My friend and I stayed at the Retreat for the first three days of 2010, and we're still talking about our smart decision nearly a year later! The cabin is beautiful, comfortable, and private. The owners are accomodating and friendly. We especially loved the outdoor seating area -- a perfect place to read a book or just take in the view!

This cabin exceeded above and beyond our expectations. Each aspect of the cabin was much appreciated. From the hot tub with the view of the stars, to the amazingly comfortable bed, to the awesome and well-stocked kitchen, to the three porches, this was the perfect getaway. One of my favorite aspects was the L-shaped seating area on the main porch with many pillows to achieve the utmost comfort while reading, drinking your morning coffee, or taking a nap. Hiking nearby was so much fun and the view from the top of the mountain is breathtaking. Highly recommended!

We had the most relaxing long weekend at the Retreat! It was just what we needed. The cabin is beautifully decorated with a "rustic elegance"! Such style...I wanted to take everything home with me! The views of the surrounding mountains are amazing! Eating dinner outside watching the mountains turn the most beautiful colors...there aren't too many restaurants that can offer a better seat than that! The cabin is close to many attractions, such as Chimney Rock and Lake Lure, but you'll have to tear yourself away from the Retreat! It's so perfect, you won't want to leave! All you'll need to take along with you is good food, good drinks and good company...the peace, quiet, relaxation and beauty will be waiting there for you!

We loved this place for a long weekend get-away! Rustically elegant and perfectly decorated with whimsy and great taste. Steep climb up the mountain is worth the trip. Be prepared to relax and enjoy the spectacular view, hot tub, read, play games... Aptly named, it's a perfect Retreat. Enjoy!
