What an absolutely great place...It wasn't the right place for me, but to no fault of the property, or Mr Tom, the owner. He is very proud of this house, and it shows. It is very well furnished, very nice, and cozy. I must say, I was scared to dirty anything. I might also suggest that the second bedroom is accessible via a small spiral staircase, might be worth mentioning, but that was no problem for my visit. The upstairs didn't get used at all while i was there for 2 weeks. I also found the back deck to not be very practical, but again not really a problem for my visit. The river/creek is a short walk around the corner, down the street with some neat little trails in the woods. We saw plenty of deer, elk, wild turkeys, fox. A very friendly and quiet neighborhood, and an awesome town. Downtown is only a few minute walk away, with great restaurants, bars, shops, and an outdoor skating rink. I strongly suggest the Mas Taco on the corner, Foster and Logans, and the Red Lodge Cafe. The Beartooth market is the same few minute walk away, for any groceries or supplies. In fact, I was there for 2 weeks and drove my car only 3 times. Mr Tom was great to work with, could not have been better. He even went out of his way to find someone to keep my dog while i stayed there, and that was right next door, so convenient. I would recommend this property to pretty much anyone other than a young, rowdy, party-goer crowd. It is NO pets. It is in town, so not quite a rustic mountain retreat. I was very pleased.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had a great time, had a moose in the back yard, deer passing by in the street and 6 wild turkeys in the front yard as we were packing up to leave. Enjoyed the cozy fireplace and surprised to have a memory foam bed.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks for taking the time to comment, Karen. I have not seen a moose in my yard in 3 years or so. Glad you had a good time. Thanks, too, for choosing FORBES COTTAGE to celebrate your anniversary! Congrats on your new grandchild...what a gift! Blessings, -Tom

My boyfriend and I, along with another couple, stayed at the Forbes cottage during the Beartooth Rally. It was a wonderful, cozy (yet spacious) base for our days of enjoying Red Lodge and the surrounding area. It felt like home away from home in the best possible way. Thank you, Tom and Kathleen, for the extra care you showed us during our stay. Your kindness and hospitality was much appreciated. It was a pleasure to meet you both and we hope to visit again in the coming years.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you for such a kind review, Annette. Kathleen and I appreciate it greatly. We also want to thank you for the wonderful job you and your travel partners did in leaving Forbes Cottage so spic and span!!! We enjoyed meeting all of you and hope that you will return. P.S. We are in your state of CO right now 8/1/12 and love it here in Estes Park. Be well. -Tom and Kathleen

Four of us stayed at the this lovely rental over New Years and had a wonderful time. The place has a lot of charm, and we loved the fireplaces as well as the fancy bathroom. The pool table was also a bit hit! This was a great place, and if we go back to Red Lodge we'll definitely try to rent it again.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

I stayed at Forbes Cottage in Red Lodge in early August, 2011, as a base for several rock-hounding excursions in the area. Tom and Kathleen were warm, welcoming and gracious hosts, with lots of tips on activities and places to eat! The cottage had everything I needed for a comfortable, relaxing stay -- I wish I could have stayed a month! The cottage is in a great location for exploring Red Lodge and the surrounding area, which is gorgeous in August. Property is very well maintained and clean. Thanks for sharing your home! I hope to make it back sometime soon....Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The property is exactly as advertised. It is conveniently located near main street and the eateries and shopping. It became a perfect spot to come back to after a long day of hiking in the Beartooth area. Our family enjoyed the solitude as well. Tom is very professional and was a pleasure to deal with. We will be back for certain. [The zoo is always fun...or pick up a great map at SylvanPeak Mountain shop and hit the trails!...or ski the slopes and shop]Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We stayed at Forbes Cottage Jan 9-15th and we had such a great time. The house was exactly as advertised and had all the amenities you could need, we felt like we were at home! The house was neat and clean and very conveniently located. Tom was extremely helpful in getting us booked and making sure everything was easy and even called us afterward and asked about our stay! The skiing was so much fun as was hiking, the local nature center, and the shops and restaurants in downtown Red Lodge. We would definitely recommend the property to anyone interested in staying in Red Lodge!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Hi Erin and Adam, That was so kind of you to pay Forbes Cottage and myself such nice complements. It always makes me feel good to hear that guests, such as yourselves, loved my home and town as much as I do. I am so glad that you had the chance to vacation in Red Lodge and take advantage of the skiing and the atmosphere of a quaint and charming little town. I wish you all the best and hope that you will holler, if and when you return to MT. Again, thank you for the kind words. Be well. -Tom p.s. GO SOONERS! GO BRAVES!

We really enjoyed our stay at the "Cottage" - with below normal temps, the steamer and fireplaces, not to mention pool table and games - kept the boys warm and busy. The last day at the cottage, the boys said they are really going to miss this place. Thanks again Tom, for making your place available and very easy to work with on renting:) Plus, being so close to downtown Red Lodge made it easy to shop and eat out - "Simple."Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: I am a retired educator/realty agent, having lived in So. Cal. for 36 years. I was born and raised in Norman, OK and graduated Univ. of OK in 1962. I had always had a yearning to live in or near mountains and a couple of yrs. after my retirement in 2003, discovered Red Lodge, MT and took the plunge. I love my little town of Red Lodge, with all of its charm, culture, mountain beauty and its friendly people. The hiking in the mountains, biking, fishing and skiing all contribute to the happiness I have found here. I attended my 50th HS reunion and got reacquainted with my lovely lady, Kathleen, and now spend my winters in FL, while Kath enjoys the beautiful summers of MT. Such a deal! :-)) Now, my guests can enjoy our home and the surrounding beauty and the inviting ski slopes of Red Lodge.
Why the Owner Chose Red Lodge:
This was chosen as my home because of the beautiful scenery, wonderful summer weather and great skiing in Winter....not to mention the culture and friendly folks of Red Lodge!!!
