My family of 5 absolutely loved staying here. The transaction was handled well and the house is very well appointed for guests, including plenty of good instructions and modern luxuries (satellite tv, games for adults and kids, puzzles, great kitchen, etc.). The views from the house are trememndous, and the location is great. While at the house, we never saw another person - just beautiful trees and the 14,000 foot peaks across the valley. Easy access to Breckenridge (about 20 minutes in the summer) and lots of other fun places to go. While there, we enjoyed fishing in Fairplay (trout at the "beach" in downtown), Burro Days in Fairplay (annual event), panning for gold along the South Platte River, driving to Buena Vista for rafting the Arkansas River (The Adventure Company), Breckenridge Fun Park, and lots of beautiful scenery at the house and on nearby roads and rivers, all of which I enthusiastically recommend. We also enjoyed eating at Alma Coffee House and Millonzi's in Fairplay. Our favorite restaurant in Breckenridge was South Ridge Street Seafood Grill. One thing to be aware of is that the house probably sits at around 11,000 feet. It takes a while to get used to that elevation if you're coming from somewhere closer to sea level. No problem at all - just be prepared to catch your breath going up the stairs. We will definitely hope to stay here again.

Great place to relax! Watch the birds and little critters play right on the deck. I did see a deer the last night I was there. Surrounded by trees, with a few mountains peaking thru. You can just stay all day and watch nature, or drive a few minutes to Breck/Alma/Fairplay. Or spend the day exploring Park County.

Just below the Continental Divide we found the most beautiful vacation home. It was not far from Breckinridge and we very much enjoyed Fairplay too. The bristlecone pines were fascinating and a "not to miss" site. Perhaps one of our all time favorites was waking up in the master bedroom and looking out at the majestic mountains with the sun shining on them. God in all His glory!

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! It doesn't get any better. The view is breathtaking, the amenities are all here, and the atmosphere is cozy, comfortable and attractive. We were here in August 2009 and loved every moment of our stay. The woodburning stove and the unending supply of wood to burn is a real plus, and access to the house couldn't be easier.

We were guests at Cedarwood in July, 2008. It was a delightful time and we had all the comforts we could want or need. The home is beautiful, spacious and comfortable. We'd love to stay there again. We highly recommend it.

What a great place! Our family thoroughly enjoyed our time in your home. Just 20 minutes to the base of Peak 9 and wonderful snow to play in just outside the door. The beds were comfortable, the water hot, and the kitchen well-stocked. Wish we could stay all winter!

What a wonderful house! It had everything we needed to be relaxed and comfortable. With an easy drive to Breckendridge and so close to some great hikes and river rafting everyone in our family enjoyed vacation! We've rented several homes around the country for vacations and this one is one of the best. We'll be back!

              Year Purchased: 1985

About the owner: My wife Susan and I moved to Nashville, Tennessee after 22 years in Colorado Springs. I am a literary agent and Susan does executive search. We both travel a fair amount but like to get out to the house in Colorado for at least a month in the summer and then a week or two in mid-winter. Our two daughters live with their families in Georgia and Oregon respectively. We have been fairly successful getting all of ten of us together in CO at least a couple weeks a year. Over the last three summers we have had a great time inviting Nashville friends to visit with us in Colorado. We love Nashville but Colorado still owns a big piece of our hearts.

              Why the Owner Chose Fairplay:
We built the place in 1985 for family time in the mountains. We picked this spot because it was just two hours from Colorado Springs where we lived and it was just twenty minutes from Breckenridge for skiing. The location was gorgeous. We decided to make it available for rental simply because it's getting harder for us to take the time to get out there. It seemed like other folks might also enjoy the place.

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Winter: skiing in Summit county - Breckenridge just 20 minutes away, unlimited cross-country skiing and snowshoeing right outside the door, sledding on the property and at the top of Hoosier pass. Summer: Mountain climbing, hiking, bike riding, fishing, four wheeling, old gold and silver mines, bar-b-cue on the grill and in the fire pit, art and craft fairs and great eating, concerts and golf in Breckenridge.
