Get to know Albuquerque as you never have before by staying in a beautiful, historic, well-established neighborhood just one short block from the University of New Mexico campus. Our home is on Las Lomas, one of the few shady, elm-lined streets in the city.
The casita is the original garage to our beautiful home, built in 1924 in the "pueblo revival" style. The casita is in itself a historic building, made of authentic adobe bricks and wood framing. We've decorated it as we have our home, with Latin American folk art and textiles, regional antiques, and charm galore. It's warm, cozy, and private--a perfect home base for your business or pleasure trip to Albuquerque and the great southwest. Curl up with a book or magazine and relax!
The kitchen is fully-equipped with pots, pans, bake wear, plates, cutlery, and brand new appliances (microwave, coffee pot, toaster oven). We supply some basic staples to get you started on your stay (coffee, tea, milk, sugar, salt, pepper, olive oil). The bathroom has new fluffy towels and baskets of basic toiletries for your convenience.
There is a stacked washer and dryer along with laundry soap, dryer cloths, and basic supplies you might need during your stay to keep the place tidy. There is a brand new 36" flat screen TV with basic cable and Wi-Fi.
There is lots of closet and drawer space, so whether you stay for a night, a week, or a month . . . you will be comfortable.
Lastly, we are very much at your disposal for suggestions, recommendations, ideas . . . we love our wonderful city, state, and region and are happy to share our enthusiasm with you.

Cute Casita - 1 Block from ~UNM~ in Historic Spruce Park
Year Purchased: 2003
Why the Owner Chose Albuquerque
We fell in love with this neighborhood and our house the minute we saw it. It was built in 1924 in the "pueblo revival" style - it's pueblo style with craftsman era touches, such as wrought iron, stained glass, and other period architectural flair. The guest house--or casita--was the original garage for the main house; now it has been transformed into a cute and cozy space for our guests.
The Unique Benefits at this Studio
We are located one block from the University of New Mexico campus, and close to the "north campus", which includes the law school, medical school, school of public health, and golf course. We are equidistant (about one mile in either direction) to downtown and Nob Hill - both have wonderful shopping, restaurants, and performing arts.

Great option for scholars/UNM visitors

I rented the "Cute Casita" for an extended period in the spring of 2011 while researching at UNM. I would highly recommend this location to anyone visiting ABQ, but especially those who need to spend time on campus, due to its close proximity. The distance to campus is walkable. Major city bus routes are readily accessible. I lived here quite happily without a car (although if you are primarily sight seeing, a car would be wise for time efficiency). The little apartment is extremely cozy with all the amenities you could want. The family who owns the property and lives next door is kind and helpful while still giving visitors plenty of privacy. The neighborhood is ideal for walking or running - beautiful houses and gardens abound in Spruce Park (and it is a safe environment for women traveling alone). I loved working on the patio in the warm sunshine. Some favorite destinations include Frontier Restaurant and the Flying Star Cafe for weekend breakfasts. Check out the shops at Nob Hill (with historic Rte 66 flair) and the movie theater downtown. A great little yoga studio, Bhava, is on the way to the downtown center and features very well trained Anusara instructors for reasonable rates. Farther afield, I would highly recommend visiting Acoma (reservation settlement high atop a rock formation) and the San Isidro house (19th Century ranch home), as well as Santa Fe - which is accessible by rail a short bus ride from the Casita. I remember my stay at the Casita very fondly. I hope that I will be able to return in the future for both work and the pleasure of returning to an extened home.
Owner response:Thank you so much for the kind words, Ellie! I'm so glad the casita met your needs and provided you a quiet and productive haven to get your work done. Come back any time.

Thanks so much for taking us in last minute. We might not get to meet you before leaving, but you put so much of your warmth into this casita that it does feel like home. We have been able to relax and not worry about any details, because you had them all covered! So we have been able to enjoy our time together and a peaceful retreat with occasional outings. This place is a wonderful couple's hideout. Thanks so much!

Lori - Thank you so much for sharing your casita with us ... charming, wonderfully decorated! I loved the molas and I have bonded with your rooster - wish I could take him home with me. We moved him so I could breakfast with him each morning. Hope to visit again soon.

This is a comfortable, relaxing casita. It's very private and you can come and go as you please. Lori has provided everything you might possibly need or want, as well as directions on where to find things and how to use them. Everything was very clean; the decor is homey and the atmosphere welcoming. We felt at home right away and enjoyed our entire stay. It was a wonderful couple's retreat! We highly recommend staying there.
Owner response:Greta and Ed - Thank you for the very kind words. I am so pleased that you had a good getaway and enjoyed your time in ABQ and in the casita. I try hard to make it comfy and welcoming, so I am so happy you felt that way about it. I hope next time you visit ABQ you can stay with us again. Lori

The casita felt just like home! Everything was so comfortable and cozy, even on a cold fall day. Thanks for the help with the WIFI. The 766/ Central bus was easy and convenient. The casita was perfect for the conference on campus. Thanks!
