- As we resque donkeys (and 'anyone' else in need, our latest arrival is Sheldon the pot belly pig) we find our guests enjoy the spirit of the animals. Included in a 2 (or more) night stay is a 'meet & greet' with the animals. One on one time and supervised by ourselves to introduce you to the animals that have found a home here. Groom them, hear their stories, and learn what is involved in taking in an animal. Many of our guests have commented on learning information about certain animals that has effected their decision on which animal would fit in their situation and which would not. Great photo time as well. This feature is totally optional. Some our guests barely have time to see all the sights in the area. When you check it just let us know if you would like to schedule a 'meet & greet'.. Also your hostess, Petra, is a certified hatha yoga instructor, if you wish to do a private class while here call for details, a 90 minute private one on one class for your party is $30.00 (Cad)...moreless

Best of Both Worlds
Best of Both Worlds
What a wonderful vacation! We were out in the country surrounded by nature, yet just minutes from so many amazing tourist attractions. You can tell attention was paid to every small detail of creating this perfect escape from the “real world”, from the placement of every plant, rock, and creative little solar light outside to the prism mirror tiles inside the skylights that shoot little rainbows all throughout the Hoblet. Every time I saw a rainbow on the floor, countertop, or my coffee cup it made me smile – sometimes it’s the simplest things. The owner made wonderful suggestions that we never would have thought of on our own but turned out to be the highlights of our trip. We were adamant about wanting to experience both sides of the falls, so her suggestion was to walk back and forth across Rainbow Bridge. It was amazing. The view of the falls from the bridge was beautiful, and what a cool and unique thing to just walk across a bridge from one country to another. Another wonderful suggestion was the Niagara Glen trails – this was my son’s absolute favorite, and we all loved it so much we went back a second day. And, of course, the Whirlpool Jet Boat Tour was amazingly fun – I’m far too wimpy for white water rafting, so this was the perfect white water adventure for me! My three kids, ages 15, 13, and 11, are all major animal lovers, so they of course loved living at an animal sanctuary for a week. They fed “the gang” treats in their pajamas every morning. My son caught frogs each night and even spotted T-Rex, the huge bullfrog, near the pond. And, the biggest achievement of all – the girls captured a video of Cuddles braying like a dinosaur! They were SO excited – they waited and waited and got it! What a fun thing to wake up to each morning … better than a rooster! I know many folks love the opportunity to be “unplugged”, and I must admit we didn’t watch TV once the entire week, but my kids SO enjoyed posting pictures on Facebook and Instagram throughout the week. Thanks to the owners sharing their WiFi, the kids were able to share all their wonderful adventures with their friends back home as they happened. All in all, we had a wonderful time and wished we could stay longer. I can’t count how many times my kids asked, “Can we live here?” And, they’re all planning their own Hoblet houses when they grow up. Many thanks to the owners for creating such a wonderful oasis. Thanks for sharing!

Owner response: ...thanks so much for taking the time to write such a nice recap. We loved the video of Cuddles braying, we have passed it on to some past guests who had commented on how much they enjoyed him, we have got to put that on our website! (too cute!) Enjoyed having you!
Amazing place to stay!
Amazing place to stay!
The Hoblet was the perfect place to return to after the heat and crowds at Niagara Falls. My children, ages 7 and 9, loved the animals; we referred to Cuddles as our alarm clock. As a mom and dad on a budget, my husband and I appreciated the well-stocked kitchen and grill. In fact, we only ate at a restaurant once during our four day/three night stay! Petra and Mush are such amazing hosts- I truly felt like we were neighbors, not guests. One evening after a long day seeing the sights, I asked my family if they were ready to "go home"- they knew I was referring to the Hoblet! Petra is a wealth of information regarding things to see and do around Niagara Falls. My only regret is that we couldn't stay longer. The Hoblet will always have a special place in the hearts of my family.

Owner response: ...thanks so much - we love Cuddles's new nickname your daughter gave him - Cuddles von Schweets!
The Hoblet and its owners are amazing! We enjoyed four wonderful nights in this quaint setting where we felt totally at home. Petra was also so helpful in directing us to great places to visit and explore. It is a convenient and scenic drive to so many places - the Falls, the winery, shops and Niagara on the Lake. We even enjoyed the local farmers market Saturday morning. Thanks to Mush, Petra and "the gang" for providing us an absolutely awesome vacation and making us feel so comfortable. We highly recommend the Hoblet - its even better in person than the pictures.

I can't say enough about The Hoblet or its operators! From the moment we arrived, Petra and Mush made sure we felt completely at home. Every last detail was thought of, including toys and stuffed animals for my young daughter. We loved being able to get so close to the animals, and my daughter still speaks daily about her favourites, the pot bellied pigs, and about the baby donkey. It was very helpful being able to ask for advice on local attractions and restaurants. Very highly recommended.

Petra and Mush made our stay unforgettable....we got to interact with the rescued animals, and everything we wanted to see was a short drive away....Niagara Falls, Niagara-on-the-Lake, the Welland Canal. Petra was a wealth of information and her friendliness makes me feel like I have a new friend in Canada! Next trip we will bring our bicycles to take advantage of the bike trails in the area.

Owner response: Thanks so much. You both were a real pleasure. I'm glad my tips and tricks help....even just to park now a days is expensive! The photos of the fire pit were beautiful, thanks for sharing.
Fabulously unique little spot tucked away in the woods far enough from the hustle and bustle of the city, yet so close to everything you want to see - including the Falls, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Welland Canal. So much better than a hotel. The muffins, fruit and yogurt, etc provided for breakfast was a nice touch - so was the firepit which was prepared and ready for us at the end of each day. Thanks to our hosts Petra, Mush and the crew (Cuddles, Monty, George, and the pigs) for a great weekend.

Wonderful, charming and cozy place to stay. The Hoblet is clean and well kept. Being un-plugged for days was the best. Petra is wonderful and attentive, but not at all intrusive. Our children, 12, 14 and 17 loved the animals. Each morning they'd be outside in their pj's tending to Cuddles, George and the rest. Definitely have a 'Meet and Greet' with all the four legged residents. Be warned the weather in April can be crazy. It was 81 on Thursday, wild storm on Friday and woke to a dusting of snow on Saturday. The falls are about fifteen minutes away and I would also recommend a drive up along the river to Niagara-on-the-Lake. So much history I was not aware of before. I would highly recommend this unique, peaceful place. It was a bit tight for our family of five, but so wonderful we would do it again. Well worth the drive from Boston.

Owner response: Thanks so much for posting a review - appreciate it. Glad you enjoyed Niagara on the Lake ...it' such a nice contrast between the tourist hustle and bustle of the falls area, great to take them both in. We've enjoyed hosting some great folks from Boston! Thanks again for choosing the hoblet and the Niagara area.
We so enjoyed our stay at the Hoblet. Petra is an amazing host and gave us such good advice regarding sightseeing. We loved the animals, especially Cuddles. If we are in Niagara again, we will definitely choose the Hoblet.

A Home a Family and an experience that I will never forget
A Home a Family and an experience that I will never forget
I needed to be in Canada for a good portion of two months. My company gave me a budget and I began to search. I stumbled upon the Hoblet by chance. Sitting in my Florida home I stared at the pictures in wonder. My first time going to Canada and I was looking at a Cabin in the woods away from anything that I know. Why not just stay in a hotel? Be normal? Be safe? Normal is what makes the day go by, normal is what blends your mondays, normal is what makes you wake up and say where did the past 5 years go. The Hoblet is one of the most distant places from normal that I have had the privilege of visiting. Unique -The Cabin itself is stunning. Pulling up for the first time well after the sun was set I was greeted by an array of lights floating throughout the landscape. The bridge to the cabin is your bridge, your entry to your home. The balance of scenery is no accident. Petra and Mush take care in everything that they do. The atmosphere is welcoming and peaceful. Crafted to give you the degree of privacy that you wish, while having the ability to lessen or strengthen that degree based on your choice. I will never forget having Cuddles greet me. The way all of the animals began to recognize my car, how they were excited to see me when I pulled in. Feeding them little bits of hay every time I came home and every time that I left. Even if I had my hands filled with bags.I had to stop and spend some time with them. The Cabin itself is one of the most unique places that I have ever stayed. The exterior gives the feel that it was hand crafted. The Porch is beautiful and even though it steadily was below freezing I found myself out there often. The interior is stunning. Clean, modern and open. Skylights flood the living space with light while the endless glass doors create a feeling of serenity with the outside world. The kitchen was fully functional with all that you would need. At first (being a native NYC'er) I was nervous. I shut the blinds and listened intently for the hundreds of made up things us city folk imagine about rural areas. It didn't take long for me to keep them open and take in nature. I could tell you 100 stories and would be more than happy to do so, but this site limits my ability. To sum it all up, I entered a new country alone without my friends and family and ended up leaving with a new family and a sanctuary filled with friends. Break away from traditional vacation spots and treat yourself to this one of a kind experience

Wonderful Place For Children
I stayed 3 nights at the Hoblet. It was better than expected. We had bbq party and campfire. My kids enjoyed feeding donkey, goats, pigs and horses. They liked the Hoblet rather than Niagara Falls.

We share our 'space' with 2 dogs, and 7 equines, 2 pot belly pigs named Sheldon and Shpeck, and 2 little, sweet goats; Monty and George. We are passionate about animal welfare, and preserving nature.
