From the moment you enter our gated estate, you will feel you have come to the Garden of Eden. The cottage was built in 2003 and is located on our 4 acre coffee estate. Papa Bay is located 40 miles South of the Kona International Airport. You can pick your own papaya, pineapples, bananas and a variety of other fruits that are in season. This is a country setting with turkeys and pheasants almost always seen on the property. You will be greeted by the sounds of the roosters and turkeys each morning and hear nothing but the sounds of the wild birds and our chickens during the day and crickets and frogs at night. You will definitely appreciate the privacy, security and serenity of this retreat setting. Secluded black sand beach just next door in Milolii. Hookena beach is only 20 minutes North and provides good snorkeling and boogie boarding.


Amenities

The cottage is fully equipped and includes; kitchen with full size gas stove, refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot, toaster, and all utensils. The living area includes, futon, 55 inch High Definition TV with VCR, CD, DVD and surround sound system along with satellite connection for all the stations you are accustomed to watching. Tons of movies! The sleeping area has a king size TempurPedic bed. If you have never slept on one of these mattress, the odds are you will probably want one when you leave. There is plenty of storage space with all custom cabinets with granite tops. You will enjoy our very unique 'Shower Room' which is all tiled with a shower head that will drench you with its 100 holes. We also have a coin operated laundry facility on site. $1 to wash, $1 to dry. You provide your own detergent/softners. There is a large sun deck with a gas BBQ grill over looking the ocean. Clothing is optional on the sun deck as well as our nature trail.


Activities

All the activities you can expect from the best vacation spot in the United States. Snorkeling, deep sea fishing, hiking, luaus, horseback riding, 4 wheel drive tours, golf, circle island bus tours, night dinner cruises, jet skies, motorcycle rentals, helicopter and airplane tours, rafting, whale watching, and of course, there is always sun bathing on your choice of white, green or black sand beaches. I'll even teach you how to pick and process coffee.


Driving Directions From Kona Airport

As you leave the Kona airport and get to the highway, turn right towards Kailua-Kona. Continue South for about 40 miles. Once you pass the 90 mile marker you will turn Right at the next marked street which is Papa Bay Drive. Go down to the second street which is Malolo Drive and turn Left. Go to the end of the street. Our driveway is on the left. We have a large black gate with the word ALOHA painted on it. It will be open when you arrive. If you are staying more than one night, it is recommended that you pick up groceries in Kona before you drive to the cottage. Otherwise you will have to go back to Kona the next day. No need to buy eggs or coffee, we provide them fresh and their complimentary.

Wayne and Jo are wonderful hosts who do their best to ensure you have a relaxing and peaceful experience. It is not a resort experience and that's just what we were looking for. Thanks Wayne and Jo.

  • The view from the deck takes your breath away! This is the perfect spot for anyone who would like a private, quiet oasis. Wayne and Jo have thoughtfully provided all the necessities and many of the really nice-to-have's. The only think I would bring next time is a blow dryer for my hair. With a rental car, this is a nice location to have as a home base when planning your sightseeing. There is much to see on the Big Island: the Volcano Park, Hilo and area with it's tropical rainforest climate, the mountains, and of course the black, white and green sand beaches. We would highly recommend a little research before you get here so you can have a bit of a plan in the event you decide not to spend your whole vacation at the cottage. There is much to enjoy here: Glorious sunsets.....brilliant night skies....and perfect hosts!

  • The warm welcome we received on our arrival, was the first indication we were in paradise. The Whiteside's are a unique and fun loving couple, offering the most wonder accommodations we've yet to enjoy in the Hawaiian Islands. The guest house was beautiful, the view off the deck unexpected and the sights, smells and sounds on their Estate are truly Hawaiian. We hung up our down jackets, kicked off our hiking boots, slid on our flip flops and spent 5 wonderful days picking coffee with Jo, chasing Wild Turkeys, eating yummy papayas and listening to Wayne's expert knowledge on coffee processing. We recommend the Whiteside's lovely guest house at Papa Bay, on the Kona Coast without reservation. In fact, we need to make another trip asap. See you Soon! Nancy & Frank Kufel

  • a great location for two who like to live in solitude and privacy. the house has many comfortable facilities but the most stunning moment is the first step on the large terrace: looking over flowering trees to the deep blue ocean in an 180 ° view. nevertheless we met the rainfall-rate of the complete winter in one week we had an unforgettable time on the most friendly jo and waynes property in south kona.

I would highly recommend it if thats what your looking for.I had forgotten what "Peace and Quiet" were actually like.   • Aloha Wayne and Jo!!! This was our second time to stay at the Papa Bay cottage. We enjoyed every minute and are already talking about the next time. Wayne and Jo are the BEST hosts. The cottage is so comfortable and clean. It has everything you need. Just stop on the way to pick up a few groceries in Captain Cook. The sunsets we viewed from the deck are beautiful! The best black sand beach is right next door - Honomalino Beach. The short hike was so much fun. Just remember the black sand gets real HOT!!   • We stayed only 3 nights at Wayne's place, but it was fabulous. The place is much nicer than the photo's show. I was worried about the two twin beds because my husband and I were celebrating our 10th year anniversary, but we simply pushed the two beds together and they were very comfortable with real nice bedding. The shower room was wonderful and airy. We were also pleasantly suprised to get a free tour of Wayne's coffe farm. I would highly recommend this rental. We drove back and forth up to Kona each day and the drive is beautiful and only took about 50 minutes. The drive was worth the tranquility of Wayne's place. We had a wonderful time and if we can swing another week away from the kids, we will definitely book wayne's place again.
