THE PLACE - Charming vacation home seated on a hilltop in a beautiful mountainous area, in a very private and quiet 50-acre property, a few miles away from the small village of La Alfombra. In the distance, you can see the Pacific Ocean and will be able to admire the breathtaking sunsets.
At that elevation (2000 feet), there is always a soft breeze so it is never too hot during the day. The nights are cool which makes sleeping easy and restfull.
There are hardly any insects around the property, except for butterflies, but you will probably see exotic birds such as toucans, eagles and parrots, to name a few. They are a sight to behold!
THE HOUSE - It is furnished and fully equipped with everything you need for a very pleasant stay. You bring in your luggage and something to eat, and you make yourself at home. It can accommodate a couple or two, or a family with two children.
The kitchen-living room area is very spacious and has large door and window openings on all sides. It is also appropriate for a wheelchair. The kitchen has refrigerator, gas stove, microwave, pots and pans, dishes, etc. The water is filtered and sterilized. There is also a washing machine.
There is one bedroom and a bathroom on the first floor, the other bedroom is in the mezzanine. The sofa can be used as extra bed.
There is a safe closet space for your passports and other valuables.
And you can pitch a tent at the back of the house, if needed.
DRIVING TO THE PROPERTY - San Isidro is the largest city in southern Costa Rica. San Jose is the capital and it is 3 to 4 hours away from the property. The airport is located in San Jose. If you rent a car from a San Jose rental company, they will pick you up at the airport. The road is paved all the way except for the last 2 miles.
If you prefer to rent a car in San Isidro, 25 minutes away from the house, you would take a bus from San Jose to San Isidro. It is a very convenient and cheap way to travel to San Isidro.
SECURITY, MAINTENANCE - You will be greeted at the property by Jose and Maria who live close by all year long. They will show you around and give you the keys to the house. Maria can help you with the cleaning, if you wish, for 3 $ US an hour.
FOOD, SHOPPING, MARKETS - A 25 minutes drive will take you to San Isidro where you will find everything, from attractive restaurants and internet cafés to food and clothing stores. On Thursdays and Fridays, there is a « feria » (an outdoor market) where you can buy locally grown fruits and vegetables as well as other local products. You can even get organic vegetables and fruits which are really delicious. Also in San Isidro is “La Corona”, a supermarket where you can find good wines, Costarican beer and coffee, and other exotic products such as sushi rice and nori sheets.
And along the road between San Isidro and La Alfombra, you will see a number of vegetable stands and restaurants with good food at very reasonable prices.
BATHING, SWIMMING - The house is 25 minutes away from Dominical, i.e. from the Pacific Ocean. Driving South or North along the coastline, you will find empty and semi-empty beaches and bay areas with fine beige sand and very civilized waves.
From one of the streams of cascading water on the property line, a pool was dug in a natural basin. The water there is always fresh and rejuvenating. It is a very intimate and safe place.
OTHER RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES - You will not have to go very far from the property to practice your favorite sport, be it tennis, or diving, or bicycling, or deep sea fishing. You can take a horse ride to the spectacular Nuyaca Falls. Or you can drive to Dominical which is a small town with all the services and a paradise for surfers. And you may want to visit the natural reserves in the area or go on an excursion to the tree tops of the forest.
