Perfect Getaway from City-Life

Guest: TXMamaof5 (Houston, TX)
Date of Stay: 12/30/11 Review Submitted: 01/05/12

2 parents, 1 mother-in-law, 5 kids and 1 large dog.... We had a great time on this property!! The dog and kids were able to run free without the restrictions of the city, the parents and mother-in-law were able to enjoy coffee on the back porch overlooking grazing cows and the beautiful lake. We could enjoy a slower-paced life, but still able to watch a movie at night, wash clothes as we messed them up, and cook our meals. We will definitely refer this place to our friends who are looking for a getaway of their own.

We rented this secluded and peaceful cabin in Sept 2011 to celebrate my in-law's 50th wedding anniversary. The weather was beautiful, and we enjoyed relaxing on the back porch, and walking the many trails on the property. Every day we had deer and turkey within sight of the cabin. The nieces and nephews enjoyed making s'mores at the fire pit in the front yard. The beds were comfortable. If you plan to cook meals at the cabin, I would suggest buying your groceries either in Mountain Home or West Plains as there are not many options in Gamaliel itself. If you are looking to "get away from it all" this is the place to be.

Family Fun over Labor Day Weekend

Guest: matt and audrey (-)
Date of Stay: 09/02/11 Review Submitted: 09/22/11

This is the perfect place for a family who wants to get away and make memories without having to leave the vacation house. My only complaint is that we didn't have more days to explore! The four-wheeler rental is such a plus and allows you to look all over the beautiful property with many ponds and creeks (unfortunately because of drought many of the creeks were dry but the spring was still running!) with deer everywhere you turn. We hung out and bbq-ed everyday, played pool, and sports in the yard. At night we could sit around the bonfire or watch movies in the comfy home. If you do decide you want to head out, Mountain Home is just a short drive from everything you need, and there's a boat rental for Lake Norfork only 15 minutes away that was very reasonable and provides a whole other day of fun. I would definitely return and the only suggestion my family and I talked about was that it would've been nice to have some kind of property map so we could see even more of the expansive property. Thanks to the owner, Guy, for being so accomodating!!

Outstanding place to enjjoy with friends or family!

I rented the cabin from Guy for my girlfriend's birthday. Was going to be 12 people, but ended up being 10, which was actually perfect. With the 4 double beds and the 2 couches, there was no need to get out the air mattresses. I found the air to be adequate in keeping up with the heat, since there were 3 or 4 window units to bolster the central air. Keep the sun room door open to the house, and the air circulates well, since there are two units in the sun room. The place is very nice, well built, and has 2 full baths, which was nice, too. The 4-wheelers were a big hit with the guys, and everyone loved having the pool table downstairs. I saw turkey driving in, and we saw deer every day. Plenty of 4-wheeler trails, and lots of old barns to take pictures of while riding around. Guy is super nice and always available to call with questions. Take tick repellent. It's a farm, not the suburbs. That made it even better. Thanks Guy!

Great Time!

Date of Stay: 07/24/11 Review Submitted: 08/01/11

Thank you, Guy & Deanna for sharing your beautiful and immaculately clean cabin. We really enjoyed ourselves. The cabin is spacious and exactly how it is pictured. We saw plenty of wildlife. The remoteness of the cabin was exactly what we were looking for. Our family loved cruising around the property on the four wheelers. We compliment you on the trails! We will definitely be returning.

Owner response:Chris and family, thanks for coming.. Please hurry back ( maybe turkey season ) You need to be the proud owner of this beautiful place. Any way thanks from Guy and Deanna............

Great place to get AWAY but here's some helpful hints to make your stay better.

My family (6 adults and 4 children) stayed at Guy and Deanna's place during THE HOTTEST days of July. (100+ degrees every day). Here's some tips to deal with the heat... Moving into the house is sort of shocking to it. I'm sure the people leaving before us had the doors wide open. We moved in and had the doors wide open for a half hour, so the house got warm. I read other reviews about the A/C not being able to keep up, but what we did was: put 2 floor fans in the sunroom. (It has 2 good window A/C units in it) and blew that cold air in the living room. That worked pretty well. Once the house got settled (it took a day) - it was comfortable and actually a little too cool at night. Heat Shock #2 upon move in was: the fridge. It's a standard size fridge. So, when you come back from Walmart the first day with 10 people's worth of hot drinks and food in the warm house: the fridge will not keep up. I'd advise you bring coolers for beverages. Ice is cheap at the "Ice Vending Machine" in Mountain Home (on the way to WalMart). Also ice is only a buck a bag at Castaway's Bar and Grill just right there on 101. That will help the fridge - because again - if you have 10 people opening the door ALL DAY LONG... that's a lot to ask. Night time... it cooled down nicely at night and we sat out in the yard for HOURS every night. My God, it's full of stars!! It would have been nice to turn off the utility light and make it pitch black but we just loved the stars out there. AMAZING. It was hot and dry in the day, so it wasn't buggy. Pleasantly surprised. We brought a Karaoke machine and had big fun in the game room. One person sang. We played pool every night... good times. Nearby - Fout's Boat Dock is close and we were on the lake every other day. Boat day, book day, boat day, book day... The people at Fouts were very nice. We love the lake. Property: HUGE. Unfortunately it was too hot to even do much 4-wheeling. We got on them for "business purposes" (taking out trash), but if it's a little cooler they would be great fun. The house is nice. Plenty of bathrooms with good water pressure. Our queen bed was comfortable and clean. County *Road?* 239??? No way man - it's County DRIVEWAY 239. You are in -the-middle-of-nowhere-. ALONE. If you want to relax, and be left alone for a week. Rent this little slice of freedom.

Owner response:Mother nature hit us with record high temps ( 108 ) the highest in recorded history....I'm not sure if any A/C can keep up !!!!!!!! We are adding another frig to the game room down stairs, should take up the slack...We need a switch on outside utility light, but electric co. dose not like it..THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMENTE and please come again.. SINCERELY gou and deanna

Perfect Getaway

Guest: Jess & Bill (Springfield, MO)
Date of Stay: 06/18/11 Review Submitted: 07/13/11

I rented this cabin for my boyfriend's birthday towards the end of June. Not only were we shocked by how beautiful it was when we drove in, when we seen the inside, the view from the porch, and the property, it was way more than we ever could have imagined. The pictures didn't do the actual thing any justice whatsoever. Guy and Deanna were such a pleasure to meet and visit with. They are wonderful people and didn't hesitate to make sure that we had everything that we needed. The house was absolutely spotless, even though someone had stayed the night before us. The four wheeler ride was great. We took the trails that Guy had told us about and had a blast. At night we sat on the porch and watched the deer, which came very close to the house. The lake was just a short drive away. We loved that we were able to grill and cook, and everything we needed was there at the house. The house was so spacious and cozy, it was more than we ever could have asked for. We had an absolute blast, and so did our friends. The only thing I would have done different was stay longer! We will definitely be coming back. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay or a better weekend, or better people to rent from. Anyone would have a blast staying here. Thanks again Guy and Deanna for everything. Hope to see you both again soon!

Owner response:Deanna and I are so glade you got to come and share our awsome get away ! ! ! Please come back sometime.

We will be back for sure! Thanks again for sharing your piece of heaven with us!! Annemarie Allen, Southaven, MS

Owner response:We are so lucky that Annemarie , Tommy and children were forced to change plans due to high water on the lower White River. We're so glad you enjoyed your stay ! Thanks for coming ! We hope to see you again soon. Thanks again from GUY AND DEANNA.

I cannot imagine a more beautiful, restful & tranquil cabin. This cabin is very secluded! Our whole family and our dog so very much needed this vacation to relax and unwind. The cabin was warm and inviting and felt so welcoming. We arrived to find an inviting fire in the fireplace and music playing the cabin was spotless. What a welcome! Guy was so very helpful with advice and directions to ponds, and area attractions. The 4-wheelers were an added bonus especially for the city girls. Wildlife every morning and evening. So much beautiful land to explore and see. Just a little glance of Heaven. Thank you Guy, for allowing us the opportunity to stay at your cabin, it was amazing. I would highly recommend this property to anyone wanting to relax and unwind. What a blessing.

We had a great time riding the ATVs through all the trails. Our three dogs are still worn out. There was a nutria living on one of the ponds and our dogs loved trying to swim after it. It was pretty fast in the water so they never had a chance. The only bad part of the weekend was that Saturday when ou and osu lost. Thanks Guy and Deanna for a great time.

Owner response:Thank you so much for coming! Bring your dogs and come back and see us soon . Thanks from guy and deanna !

Norfork Lake family weekend getaway

Guest: Tamra M. (Missouri)
Date of Stay: 07/30/10 Review Submitted: 08/10/10

Thank you Guy for the wonderful stay. We loved the atmosphere, being out "in the middle of nowhere" and watching the deer play on the property. We had a very pleasant, relaxful vacation and hope to be back soon. My family gives it a two thumbs up! Positives: secluded area yet only 10-15 minutes from Dock101, great views, large 4 bedroom/3 bath, basement with pool table, great place for family get-togethers, nice decor, extremely clean and very comfortable furnishings. Negatives: Located on gravel road, no dishwasher, only one working tv, and we were there when the temp was 95-100 degrees outside with high humidity and we just could not get cool enough - the air conditioner seemed to be doing all it could but stayed around 77-80 degrees inside. These are very small inconveniences based on all of the positives. Overall, this is an excellent place to stay and Guy is a great host. He will go over and beyond to make sure you are very comfortable. Thanks again Guy! Hope to see you soon.

Owner response:Thank you for the kind words. We are making improvements ASAP, riding stables, dish washer and trash compactor. All 3 T.V.s work now, So sorry about the 100 degree day, it's hard to maintain more than a 20 degree temp diffarence inside/outside in any A/C syatem ! Thank you for coming. Hope to see you agan soon. GUY & DEANNA

Date of Stay: 11/26/09 Review Submitted: 10/22/10

My husband and I stayed at the cabin for Thanksgiving of '09. We booked the cabin in very short notice, yet Guy and Deanna were EXTREMELY accommodating and so friendly. We're considering another trip down because we could sure use the peace and relaxation! The cabin was cozy, especially with the fire going. We had everything we needed. We took our dogs and they loved all the open space to run. The dogs and the cows were curious of each other and we have some cute pictures of their almost nose-to-nose encounter. Staying at the cabin was surely a change of pace... to look out the window or sit on the porch and watch turkey and deer graze in the fields with the beautiful backdrop (things we don't see everyday). It was humbling. I'd recommend bringing binoculars and maybe even a spot light for night time as you can hear all kinds of animals walking among the brush. The nearest neighbor is a good driving distance away. If you like the outdoors, seclusion, and simplicity, this is a great place to visit. Thanks, Guy and Deanna, for the opportunity to reconnect with family and nature.

Owner response:Thank you for the bottle of wine, that was so thoughful !!!! Please come see us again, we have fixed the place up even more and have a new pool table ., the weather is AWSOME this time of year !!!!
