This was our 1st family trip to Alaska. We picked the Amber Lake cabin because of its beautiful serene accommodations. We were not disappointed! The cabin is just as wonderful as the pictures make it out to be. After arriving, it felt like home. Hal and Nancy were very hospitable and friendly care takers. We enjoyed there company and insights on our Alaskan adventure. Remember to make enough time to see Hal and Nancy's dog team! Tom was also accommodating and made sure we had 3 fishing poles. However we found fishing to be unproductive. But the lake view and boat rides were very soothing. I definitely would recommend the cabin to my friends and family. Because of our excellent experience at the cabin without a hitch, I can say in a positive way, No Surprises! Thanks for a wonderful stay!

Fabulous cabin by the lake
Fabulous cabin by the lake
We had a great time at this cabin last week. Absolutely very well kept and has the best amenties inside the house. Its a bit of a long drive on dirt road for 12 miles to get in and out but once you are in the cabin, you will just not want to leave. We drove to Denali and Fairbanks from here, Denali took full 3 hours and Fairbanks 5.5 (with some small stops). The road once you get out of the dirt road is fine. The lake is fantastic. We used the paddle boat, kayak and the row boat. It was great to have the bicycles too. Saw several moose on the way to the cabin on the dirt road and another small animal that we did not know what it is. Thanks to Nancy and Hal who take such good care of the house and the highlight of our stay was our visit to Nancy and Hal's house to meet her huskies. Our teenage girls cannot stop talking about that. Thank you Tom and it was very nice meeting with you as well.

Peace and quiet on the lake
Peace and quiet on the lake
Owner incredibly accommodating--truly wanted our group to make ourselves at home. Days included listening to the loons in the morning, swimming off the dock, taking the kids out on the paddleboat, fires in the evening, and a good night's rest. You really feel far away from civilization, but with all the comforts of home. Will definitely visit again.

What a great place to relax!
What a great place to relax!
My husband and I spent an entire week at the cabin. It had all the comforts we needed including very comfy beds and room darkening shades. We had great weather and spent a lot of time in the paddleboat. Went to Talkeetna a couple times. What a great town with lots of restaurants. The property manager was so personable and great to work with. We saw lots of moose on the road and even a juvenile black bear. We also went to Denali and Fairbanks.

Probably would not have rented the house if had known we had 12 miles of gravel road to the driveway. There was also no dishwasher on site or TV reception as advertised. Loose tread on steps that caused a trip hazard.

Owner response: We are so glad you enjoyed your stay, we strive to provide a enjoyable setting and facilities for our guests.
Our family arrived to the cabin on a hot June summer's day and were greeted by Nancy the caretaker. We were happy to see so many various water toys by the dock and the kids loved fishing from the early morning hours through late evening. So glad that there was one fishing pole but think if there were two or three more poles to accomodate families flying in from out of state, that would have been even better! The kids had a great experience catching lots of Pike, and it was addicting for them! We experienced a major mosquito problem inside and out, but Tom was eager to make it right the next day and fogged around the cabin. The temperatures were hotter than we were expecting that early week in June and the locals seemed frustrated with the 90 degree weather as well, but thankfully we had some oscillating fans in the cabin which helped tremendously. We highly recommend visiting Talkeetna for there are several cute shops and restaurants and approx. only an hour's drive from the cabin. Denali National Park was nice experience as well and beautiful scenery. The cabin's fire pit was nice to have in the evening (even though we didn't need to keep warm) but the kids enjoyed making s'mores. The walking path around the lake was overly weeded, so unfortunately I had to resort to walking the dirt road for exercise, but still enjoyed looking at nature as I walked. It was nice that the owners provided mountain bikes as well. We witnessed a mother moose by Denali with her two baby calves, and another moose near the cabin along side the dirt road, but didn't see any bear. Perhaps it was because of my bear bell that I was constantly wearing? We appreciated the fact that there was a dvd player in the cabin for later in the evening when the kids wanted to pop a movie. Tom did a great job trying to make our vacation the best it could be and was very prompt with refunding our deposit shortly after we arrived back home. We appreciated the owner's kindness and concern for us during our stay.

Owner response: There were many more fishing poles available the caretaker had them downstairs for your use she was unaware of your desire for more poles. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and the weather cooperated.
A Cozy Retreat

Last weekend we took our family up for a winter getaway. Our family has a cabin in Petersville, but it was already "booked" for the weekend, so I had to look for another option! We met both Tom and Hal, who took good care of us. Hal loves to chat about the area, his dogs, local EMT work, and current events! The cabin had all the comforts of home, including WiFi (partially to my chagrin - we try to go to the cabin to get AWAY from technology), but my wife and nephews appreciated it. We enjoyed ice fishing, snowmachining, sledding, bonfires, cookouts, and relaxing and playing game inside. We will be back! But Tom, I want to put an order in for a SAUNA!! Haha. Book this cabin - you will enjoy it. I highly recommend it.

Owner response: Winter driving can be tricky the key is to take your half out of the middle of the road until another vehicle comes then slow down and ease over to the right just enough to let the other rig to go by.

A very comfortable, well equipped cabin. Fantastic views of a peaceful lake & the top of Denali, fun water toys, a lovely swing, a huge fire pit plus a few moose too! Extremely nice caretakers & owners were most hospitable. Highly recommend for a memorable Alaskan experience.

About the owner: Our family's moved to Alaska in the early 70's. We moved here for the Alaskan Experience. During our pursuit of that experience the family became involved in staking out Alaskan Open-Entry land and taking advantage of public land auctions. The land this cabin sets on was purchased at auction. Our family grew up on this property and the 5 acres next door. Our children were raised here on weekends and summers at the cabin. We have built and re-built generator systems and installed off-grid electrical systems that now allow the cabins to be enjoyed year round. We have fished the lake extensively in winter and summer... we really know where to catch the Pike that dominate Amber Lake. We've explored the surrounding area in summer and winter for the past 20 years and can tell you where to go for a great experience all year round. We even found the submerged island in the middle of the lake. Let us show you where it is the next time you come to Amber Cove Cabin.
Why the Owner Chose Trapper Creek:
My mother purchased this property at a Alaska State Land Auction, site unseen in 1973 when Amber Lake was a fly-in only lake property. Ten years later the road was pushed back to Amber Lake. We then made our first ATV adventure to Amber Lake. This property took our breath away and soon we began building our first cabin. After almost 15 years of week-ends and summers at the cabin and 100's of repeat guests we have just finished our second cabin on the adjacent lot. We are very proud of our NEW cabin, because it boasts all the things we did correctly when building and furnishing the first cabin. We think Amber Cove Cabin will give our guests the best cabin experience ever.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Amber Lake is a semi-remote recreation area with fantastic Pike fishing-- nearby streams and lakes offer some of Alaska's finest Salmon, Trout, & Pike fishing. It is less than 20 minutes from Petersville road recreation area. Petersville recreation area is located at the south end of Denali National Park with extensive ATV and snow machine trails. There are also 100's of miles of trails directly from the cabin. Amber Lake is a 2 mile long lake and is perfect for a full spectrum of watersports and winter sports. Float planes often fly in to Amber Lake from Anchorage. Air taxi service can be arranged, along with snow machine and/or ATV rentals.
