Why the Owner Chose Trapper Creek

My mother purchased this property at a Alaska State Land Auction, site unseen in 1973 when Amber Lake was a fly-in only lake property. Ten years later the road was pushed back to Amber Lake. We then made our first ATV adventure to Amber Lake. This property took our breath away and soon we began building our first cabin. After almost 15 years of week-ends and summers at the cabin and 100's of repeat guests we have just finished our second cabin on the adjacent lot. We are very proud of our NEW cabin, because it boasts all the things we did correctly when building and furnishing the first cabin without any of the mistakes. We think Amber Cove Cabin will give our guests the best cabin experience they have ever had.

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin

Amber Lake is a semi-remote recreation area with fantastic Pike fishing-- nearby streams and lakes offer some of Alaska's finest Salmon, Trout, & Pike fishing. It is less than 20 minutes from Petersville road recreation area. Petersville recreation area is located at the south end of Denali National Park with extensive ATV and snow machine trails. There are also 100's of miles of trails directly from the cabin. Amber Lake is a 2 mile long lake and is perfect for a full spectrum of watersports and winter sports. Float planes often fly in to Amber Lake from Anchorage. Air taxi service can be arranged, along with snow machine and/or ATV rentals.

Amber Cove Cabin

This picture was taken approximately 2 years ago when we just completed putting in the well and septic. This leveled area is now where our new Cabin is located with all the comforts of home.

B
Petersville Historic Townsite and Snow Machine Area

Petersville Townsite is located in the foothills of Mt. McKinley, where visitors can find the historic Petersville gold mining area. Still today you can find the remains old abandoned equipment.

C
Denali National Park

The word "Denali" means "the great one" in the native Athabaskan language and refers to the mountain itself. The mountain was named after president William McKinley of Ohio in 1897 by local prospector

D
Amber Point

This is our old family cabin. It is also where the Gen-set, inverter, solar panels and wind generator is located which powers both cabins. The power generating system is totally automatic.

Owner's Map of Trapper Creek

Our family's moved to Alaska in the early 70's. We moved here for the Alaskan Experience. During our pursuit of that experience the family became involved in staking out Alaskan Open-Entry land and taking advantage of public land auctions. The land this cabin sets on was purchased at auction. Our family grew up on this property and the 5 acres next door. Our children were raised here on weekends and summers at the cabin. We have built and re-built generator systems and installed off-grid electrical systems that now allow the cabins to be enjoyed year round. We have fished the lake extensively in winter and summer... we really know where to catch the Pike that dominate Amber Lake. We've explored the surrounding area in summer and winter for the past 20 years and can tell you where to go for a great experience all year round. We even found the submerged island in the middle of the lake. Let us show you where it is the next time you come to Amber Cove Cabin.

Winter Fun

Two families shared this great cabin on the lake - though frozen this time of year. We had a wonderful time snow machining and relaxing by the wood stove. The setting was peaceful, we even saw the northern lights! The hosts are wonderful and make sure you have everything you need for your stay. Having the separate downstairs for the TV room left the adults a quiet space. I would love to see it in the summer!

Great place to stay!

Guest: First-time visitor to Alaska (Racine, WI)
Date of Stay: 07/16/11 Review Submitted: 08/11/11

Our family of five (including three young adults) really enjoyed our four days at the Amber Cove cabin. What a beautiful part of Alaska! The cabin was very nicely furnished. We enjoyed the use of the canoe and paddleboat, as well as the patio with fire pit. It was a great place for quiet get-away time, but we also recommend hiking in nearby Denali State Park, visiting Talkeetna, and driving a little further down Petersville Rd. for awesome views of Mt. McKinley (or Denali, as they call it in Alaska). Both the owner and the caretaker were SO friendly and helpful. We highly recommend this place!

Owner response:Thanks for your kind words we enjoyed having you folks as guests.

Splendid Anniversary Week

Guest: James and Claudia (Utah)
Date of Stay: 05/15/11 Review Submitted: 05/23/11

The cabin is everything described and very well supplied. The solitude and silence was magnificent. We enjoyed watching the ice melt and being able to observe the wide variety of birds in their natural habitat. The location was perfect for our anniversary week and coming back to the cabin was a nice way to end each days adventure in and around the area. James and Claudia May 2011

New Year's at Amber Cove Cabin 2011

Guest: Vern (Palmer, AK)
Date of Stay: 12/30/10 Review Submitted: 02/10/11

The Nelson family of four, Dave Sunday and the Briner's spent the New Year's in great comfort. Arrived on a Thursday afternoon to meet the Caretaker, lets call him "Chief" he was very helpful getting us setteled in. That night we had a nice winter snow fall of about twenty inches. It was a wonderful place to be snowed in with friends and family. Friday we spent the day playing in the snow and icefishing, oh I can't forget sledding down the hill to the lake. New Years Eve we had a camp fire at the fire pit and spent the night watching fire works shoot across the sky coming from the other cabins on the lake. Saturday was another great day for sledding and ice fishing. The cabin was perfect it had everything you need for a long weekend. The kids were able to watch movies and play games in comfort. The adults had fun playing cards and enjoying some cold beverages. I have stayed at plenty of rentals and this one is the best by far considering where it is located. The cabin had plenty of room and the beds were very comfortable, plenty of hot water. I plan on going back this winter and in the summer as well. Thanks for the great New Year's weekend.

Date of Stay: 01/13/11 Review Submitted: 01/21/11

This cabin is sooo beautiful!! We live in Alaska and have always snow-machined for my Birthday, so we choose Amber cove and we are so glad we did. The cabin has everything you could think of! It was clean and well mantained inside and out. We had 4-Adults in our group and there was plenty of room for us! We rode the lake to the near-by trails, the snow was great!! We rode back to the cabin and enjoyed the warm woodstove fire inside, and had a great dinner that my friends made for me for my 50th B-day. We also enjoyed the Northern Lights in all their Glory!! just standing on the deck of the cabin, Fantastic!! All my thanks to Ben, Hal and Nancy for all the wonderful memories at Amber Cove. We will be back! Tomas and Lanett, Eagle River Alaska.

Ben, we had a great time at your cabin! Hal, the caretaker, was wonderful. I enjoyed canoeing on the lake, listening to the loons and seeing the beaver. The kids were thrilled to watch the sow black bear and her three cubs from the safety of the cabin.
