We returned this summer to this charming rental. We originally vacationed here in 2009. This time around we brought baby #3 and grandma and it was even better than we imagined. Such a wonderful town full of New England hospitality and coastal beauty. Besides the comfort and extreme cleanliness of the rental, we especially appreciated the CLOSE proximity to downtown Boston and the surrounding tourist destinations. We actually took the cab into Boston for date nights, the subway for family day trips and the ferry for a relaxing adventure. It literally is a 10-minute car ride into downtown. The close proximity and multiple enjoyable transportation methods made our downtown sightseeing and surrounding Boston neighborhood exploration such a no fuss experience. I wish all U.S. city destinations offered a comparable rental with charm, quality and ease. We LOVED our stay at Seaside Escape!! There were six in our group~four adults and two children (boys aged 13 and 11). From the moment we arrived and were welcomed by the owner, we knew that we had made the right choice for our Boston vacation stay. To say that Barbara and Ed are great hosts would be an understatement ~ they are very welcoming and hospitable and left no stone unturned to make sure we felt comfortable and at home. The unit is very clean, comfortable, and spacious ~ exactly as described and shown in the pictures on the website. Winthrop is a charming and friendly small town. There are restaurants, stores, and beaches within walking distance of the rental, and traveling into Boston using the Metro was an absolute breeze. After long and busy days of seeing all that Boston has to offer, it was a delight to return to the quiet of Bowdoin Street. The boys enjoyed swimming in the backyard pool, and we all had great fun sitting around the kitchen table playing our nightly game of "Balderdash". Looking back on our stay, there isn't one thing we would have changed. We would without any hesitation recommend Seaside Escape to our friends and family. We had a ball. The home and hosts were truly fabulous! The location was ideal! Minutes away from the big city, while staying in a small town community. Everything you need and more! We had brought both sets of our parents and our children. The home was perfect. The kitchen had more than our own kitchen does. Barbara and Ed had thought of everything, umbrellas, iron, laundry, maps, times for events, books, games, toys... When we arrived Barbara showed us a book that had all of the relevant information about the area. From local taxi cabs, and brochures from local restaurants, to events and agendas all around Boston. Barbara gave us great advice as to whether we should drive to a particular location or take a ferry, bus, etc. Invaluable advice when you are on vacation and do not want to get stuck in traffic. We were treated as family in the home and at the pool. This was really nice for our parents who were able to make themselves at home in a strange new environment. Even though we stocked the refrigerator, it was nice to look thru the restaurant menus that Barbara provided and pick out different restaurants to walk to for dinner, or have food delivered to our place. There are many choices of excellent food in this area. If we had questions about anything Barbara would fill us in. In one instance, she wrote us a half page document on what to do. One of the other really nice things about this home is that we thoroughly enjoyed just hanging out at the home and playing games, watching movies, and socializing. This place made us want to just stay at the home and relax. Staying here is much more than the home. What we received was a family that opened their home to us and treated us as family. This was a perfect home away from home while we were in Boston celebrating my sister's graduation! We had 5 adults and 1 toddler in the home and Barbara and Ed do not miss a thing. While it was a bit of a distance into the heart of Boston, the home and its endless amenities made up for this in a second. It was great not worrying about bringing a thing for our daughter except for her clothes, and it was nice to spread out over 2 floors for sleeping. Our favorite night was grilling down by the pool - a perfect end to a great long weekend! It was an easy walk into the little downtown for quick groceries, or to a park to play. What a wonderful place to stay! I came to Boston for the Memorial Day week-end with my husband and 3 teenage daughters. We had planned on staying in a one-room hotel in the city and then I received an email from HomeAway and saw "Seaside Escape". The location is great - so close to the city and easily accessible by any number of transportation options. The house is clean and roomy and Barbara and Ed are beyond comparison if you're looking for wonderful hosts. They make you feel right at home from the moment you arrive and really try to make sure that your every need is met. Once I booked Seaside Escape I invited my niece and her husband to join us for the week-end and we all had a great time being together in such a lovely home. My oldest daughter is just finishing her junior year in high school and is thinking about spending her college years in Boston. It's great to know that we have found this jewel in Winthrop. Our group, 9 ladies for a bachelorette party spent only two nights at Seaside Escape, and this was our only regret! After our one night, we truly wished that we could have stayed at Seaside Escape for a week. It is easy to understand why. Barbara and Ed are warm, friendly, and exhibit genuine hospitality. Their interest and assistance with suggestions for things to do and how to travel into and out of the city were incredibly helpful for our group of 9. They were even kind enough to pick some of our travelers up at the airport and take them on a nice tour and to the market.Before our trip was over we were already starting to make plans to come back. I hope that this will become a new tradition . I personally am excited to come back with my family. Barb and Ed have thought of everything from blankets,extra pillows,spices, highchairs,games & books! We thoroughly enjoyed the spacious and comfortable accommodations that allowed all of us to spend fun-filled evenings and breakfast time together. Thank you, Barbara and Ed, for having such a wonderful impact on us and for being an integral part of a most exciting and memorable trip to Boston for our girls weekend / bachelorette party!! Our group, the First Ever Summer Travel Club (FESTC), spent only one night at Seaside Escape, and this was our only regret! After our one night, we truly wished that we could have stayed at Seaside Escape for our entire time in Boston. This was not possible, as Seaside Escape was already booked for the rest of our week. It is easy to understand why. Barbara and Ed are warm, friendly, and exhibit genuine hospitality. Their interest and assistance with suggestions for things to do and how to travel into and out of the city were incredibly helpful for our group of 10. We thoroughly enjoyed the pool, the close proximity to beaches for early morning sunrise-watching, and the spacious and comfortable accommodations that allowed all of us to spend a fun-filled evening and breakfast time together. Everything written in the descriptions and by other guests is correct,. The location is excellent and convenient for everything, the faciities are everything you could want and Ed and Barbara could not have been more helpful from booking to departing. What wonderful people. They have a great property. They have thought of everything you could need while in Boston. The unit is very close to everything you want to see. I took my senior scouts and they loved it. Any help we needed was given and any questyions answered. It was a clean, safe, well stocked house that I would visit again & again. We were never disturbed the entire time. It really was a home away from home.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

Our family of 4 stayed here while visiting the Boston area. Using this as home base, we took a guided tour of the Freedom Trail, saw a game at Fenway, visited the museum and aquarium, did the Boston Duck Tour, spent some time at the beach, and went on a whale watch. All these activities are easily accessible from the rental and the town of Winthrop is a great place to stay, just a few miles out of the city but a welcome relief at the end of a busy day. The place is attractive, clean, and amazingly well equipped (see the listing for the extensive amenities offered...what is actually available surpasses the listing) and would be especially excellent for large groups or families with small children. The owners were beyond accomodating, providing us with extensive helpful information and discounts and passes to many local attractions before our arrival and during our stay.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car.
