Our group, 9 ladies for a bachelorette party spent only two nights at Seaside Escape, and this was our only regret! After our one night, we truly wished that we could have stayed at Seaside Escape for a week. It is easy to understand why. Barbara and Ed are warm, friendly, and exhibit genuine hospitality. Their interest and assistance with suggestions for things to do and how to travel into and out of the city were incredibly helpful for our group of 9. They were even kind enough to pick some of our travelers up at the airport and take them on a nice tour and to the market. Before our trip was over we were already starting to make plans to come back. I hope that this will become a new tradition . I personally am excited to come back with my family. Barb and Ed have thought of everything from blankets, extra pillows, spices, highchairs, games & books! We thoroughly enjoyed the spacious and comfortable accommodations that allowed all of us to spend fun-filled evenings and breakfast time together. Thank you, Barbara and Ed, for having such a wonderful impact on us and for being an integral part of a most exciting and memorable trip to Boston for our girls weekend / bachelorette party!! Warmest wishes your 80's girls

What wonderful people. They have a great property. They have thought of everything you could need while in Boston. The unit is very close to everything you want to see. I took my senior scouts and they loved it. Any help we needed was given and any questyions answered. It was a clean, safe, well stocked house that I would visit again & again. We were never disturbed the entire time. It really was a home away from home.

Our group, the First Ever Summer Travel Club (FESTC), spent only one night at Seaside Escape, and this was our only regret! After our one night, we truly wished that we could have stayed at Seaside Escape for our entire time in Boston. This was not possible, as Seaside Escape was already booked for the rest of our week. It is easy to understand why. Barbara and Ed are warm, friendly, and exhibit genuine hospitality. Their interest and assistance with suggestions for things to do and how to travel into and out of the city were incredibly helpful for our group of 10. We thoroughly enjoyed the pool, the close proximity to beaches for early morning sunrise-watching, and the spacious and comfortable accommodations that allowed all of us to spend a fun-filled evening and breakfast time together. Thank you, Barbara and Ed, for having such a positive impact on us and for being an integral part of a most exciting and memorable trip to Boston for our FESTC group!

Our family of 4 stayed here while visiting the Boston area. Using this as home base, we took a guided tour of the Freedom Trail, saw a game at Fenway, visited the museum and aquarium, did the Boston Duck Tour, spent some time at the beach, and went on a whale watch. All these activities are easily accessible from the rental and the town of Winthrop is a great place to stay, just a few miles out of the city but a welcome relief at the end of a busy day. The place is attractive, clean, and amazingly well equipped (see the listing for the extensive amenities offered...what is actually available surpasses the listing) and would be especially excellent for large groups or families with small children. The owners were beyond accomodating, providing us with extensive helpful information and discounts and passes to many local attractions before our arrival and during our stay.

We had a wonderful holiday in July. The house is very well situated in a quiet friendly suburb, with shops, bus stop and ferry port in easy walking distance. We did not need to rent a car. Barbara and Ed could not have been more helpful. The house is well maintained and very comfortable. Everything you need has been provided. We would definiately return. Highly recommended.

We are a family of four with two adult children who spent a lovely week in Winthrop this June, Barbara and Ed were very helpful when we asked for help and left us alone when we didn't. The house was in a lovely place near shops, places to eat and the beach. It was very easy to get into Boston City centre and other areas by car or public transport. Barbara and Ed provide everything you could want for a home away from home and a pool as well (which we don't have at home).

A wonderful find! Rental unit was immaculate, extremely well furnished and maintained and very user friendly. Hosts Barbara and Ed were pleasant and accomodating without interfering. Everything was provided including discount cards, maps and menus. I can't think of any reason why someone going to the Boston area SHOULDN'T rent this unit!

Just a WONDERFUL experience from start to finish. From my first interaction with Barbara, she was so responsive and helpful, I knew this would be the best choice for us and we were not disappointed! We were traveling on business attending a conference at the World Trade Centre and looking to find an alternative to a hotel but conveniently located close to Boston (it took us about 10 mins in the car). Barbara and Ed have made this place super comfortable with everything you could need for a vacation or a business trip. It was spotlessly clean with high quality linens and the beds were super comfortable. The only thing we regret was due to our tight schedules we were not able to spend more time in the local neighborhood which seemed to have lots of character and history. Barbara and Ed are wonderful people - nothing was too much trouble and I would highly recommend this to other travelers, in a small or large group. Thanks again Barbara and Ed - we will be back!!

We were fortunate enough to spend 12 nights and days in this unit. We were for want for nothing. This unit has everything you could ever want... Kitchen fully equiped, games... books movies, lots of light in unit, plenty of linens comfortaqble beds, fully array of spieces and a wonderful location to get around Boston and surrounding areas. Barbara and her husband ed... are most accomadating supplying us with all kinds of useful information about attractions in the area... and discount coupons to many of the attractions including groceries at the local Stop an Shop. We've stayed in many rentals over the years... but this unit is hard to beat.... You will not be disappointed and will leave with a smile on your faces and a most happy heart.

We truly appreciated Barbara and Ed's hospitality - their kindness, generosity and concern for our well being. They went far beyond and above the call of duty in making our vacation as delightful as it was. We would highly highly recommend this property to anyone looking to stay in the Boston area.

We were two families of cousins having a winter reunion and Barb and Ed were the perfect hosts. The apt. has plenty of space for all to enjoy separately, or together for meals and games and movies too. The kitchen is completely outfitted for every cooking need, the beds are comfy, the unit is very soundproof, and everything you could possibly need is provided - flashlights, spices, DVD collection, books, Aquarium pass which saved us over $100... Barb and Ed were extremely welcoming and helpful, and even said they enjoyed our boisterous meals and games! We arrived in a blizzard and they even went out on the road to escort us to the house when we got lost. We highly recommend this clean and tidy apt. which is just as it appears on the website listing, and with the best of hosts.

The most important thing to me is that a house be clean, and this was immaculate. I later complimented Barbara for it, and she explained that they send out all the bedding (including quilts and covers) for cleaning in between each rental. Additionally, there was not a speck of dust or dirt anywhere in the house. It looked and felt super-clean! On top of that, absolutely everything you could need is in the house. Barbara is completely on top of making sure you have all you need as well. She and Ed were always available to give us a ride to the train station or the airport or whatever else we needed. Barbara didn't call or come over; she made it clear that she didn't want to interrupt our family vacation. However, she also made it clear that we could call her for anything; and she was there to help us when we asked, 100% of the time. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect situation. She gives a very thorough tour of the house upon arrival and even provides discount cards to the Aquarium (6 ppl) and Museum of Science (8 ppl), in addition to other, general discount cards. The train is a quick (10-15 min) ride into Boston. Although we had a car, we didn't need one. Thank you so much, Barbara and Ed; you are wonderful!

We (two parents and two adult 'children') arrived from the UK at 8.30 p.m. Barbara immediately took us out in her car to get a takeout pizza. When we had finished that she took us to the supermarket to get proivisions for breakfast. We could not believe the lengths she would go to for her guests. Throughout the week we were there Barbara offered to take us wherever we wanted to go, to the station, to the cinema... We had a car, but we didn't really need one such was Barbara and Ed's willingness to take us out in their car and due to the excellent public transport. We can't say enough in praise of Barbara and Ed; however, it was not only they who made our holiday, but the comfort and facilities of the two storey apartment we had. It was lovely, it was immaculately clean and it had everything we could need (including the very welcome air conditioning). The pool was an added bonus - it was extremely warm and inviting. There were DVDs for us to watch, books to read, games to play and lots of information on local attractions. There are shops, cafes and a beach within walking distance of the property. When Winthrop has been exhausted, it is easy to get into Boston, where there is a great deal to do and see. Going further afield, we really enjoyed our trip to Lexington and Condord. We had a tremendous 8 days at Seaside Escape and would highly recommend it to anyone. We would not hesitate to go back any time. We have never written a review before, but such is our strong feeling about the care and attention we received from Barbara and Ed and the quality of the accommodation, that we felt we had to share our findings.

What can we say about Barbara and Ed? They are the perfect hosts - filled with excellent information, always at the ready to help, but very private all at the same time... The place was perfect for us. We flew into Boston and stayed in Maine for 2 weeks, where we got married, 5 teenagers in tow... We decided to spend four days in Boston, and chose this lovely home for our stay - so glad we did!!!!! All of the comforts of home, and then some - Barbara and Ed were wonderful. They offer Aquarium passes (6), Science Museum passes (8), discount cards, and so much more. When we told Barbara we were going to the Aquarium, she called ahead to let them know, and to make sure they knew we had to buy one more ticket... and they gave us a break for that! It pays to be a FOB (friend of Barbara) in this town!!! Seriously, they are delightful people, and the place was so comfortable. All the towels you need, and the pool was such a big hit with the kids... Every room so comfortable... games to play... and we survived just fine with one bathroom... It was great. I actually was teary-eyed when we left, after just four days. We felt like we were at Grandma's house - if we had asked, she would have baked us cookies, without a doubt!!! Seriously, we highly recommend this home if you are coming to Boston. Public transportation is nearby, and really, just leave your car there and explore! Then, come home to Winthrop... We will surely be back!

This past May my whole family made plans to come up to Boston to attend my graduation from Harvard. Because the group was so big (my parents, my brother's family (+2 kids), and my sister's family (+2 kids)), we really struggled with finding a rental situation that would be enjoyable for everyone. The idea of renting three adjacent hotel rooms was a huge turn off. After doing some research, I was lucky enough to find this lovely place in Winthrop. From the initial contact, everything was amazing. Barbara was so kind and lovely from the get go and made sure to accomodate all of our needs. My family couldn't have been happier with the rental. EVERYTHING is provided in the rental. And I mean EVERYTHING. A full kitchen (with everything you could ever need), tons of towels to be shared, videos, toys, etc. There was even a crib and stroller for the kids. If you decide to go with this place, I challenge you to find something that Barbara hasn't thought of. And if it's reasonable, I have no doubt that she'll have it on premise by the time you get there! The apt itself is really great. The living room and dining room are contiguous which was one of the most attractive features for us. This gave plenty of space for kids to play along with ample room for 7 adults to sit comfortably. The place sits on the top two floors of the building which gives a lovely vantage of the surrounding neighborhood. My sister-in-law spent and afternoon away from the kids reading a book on one of the couches next to one of the big windows in the living room...and just loved it. The pool area is absolutely amazing. Barbara and her husband (Ed) have done an amazing job. It's beautiful, elegant, and very secluded. We had a small bbq one afternoon with just the family and loved it. Again, EVERYTHING is by the pool - pool toys, utensils for eating, and even fridges stocked with drinks! The Winthrop area itself is lovely as well. There are lots of great beaches and ocean vistas to enjoy as well as a nice, quaint downtown area. Just to highlight one thing - my brother-in-law and I were hoping to have a little surprise bday party for my sister. We asked Barbara about local cake places and she directed us to an amazing place with a home made italian rum cake (amazing!). Well, I just wanted to let you know that if you're looking for a place to rent while in Boston, you can't go wrong with this rental! This is a great place for anyone! Enjoy!

My family of six, along with another couple just returned from a wonderful stay in Winthrop. It was lovely to be near the sea in this cute small town, only 3 T stops from downtown. I couldn't believe how easy it was to get in and out of Boston on the Blue Line. The home was comfortable for all of us and had everything we needed and then some. Ed and Barbara went above and beyond to make sure we had a comfortable stay. And we met some of the friendliest locals ever! My kids loved roller blading and biking around the neighborhood (We brought our bikes) and Deer Island. We went to Boston everyday, but would have liked to spend even more time in Winthrop. This is a great option for families with young kids! Enjoy!

As Barbara was giving me tour of their lovely home in Winthrop, I said that this wasn't like home away from home, because it was nicer than my home!!! Really, Barbara and Ed made us feel so very welcome and the house was perfect! Equipped with everything that we forgot to bring. We like to play dominoes and had forgotten to bring ours. No big deal, right? Wrong! Barbara went out on the very first day and bought some for us! We can't wait to get back there... Thanks Barbara and Ed!!!

We were a family of 8 ranging from 15 to 60 years of age and every one of us was delighted with this property. Barbara and Ed were excellent hosts, very helpful and although close by, were never intrusive. The house was a dream with all we could ever need and more and there was space for all of us. The use of the T line into Boston was so simple and cheap and Viking Taxis were very accommodating. We obviously got Winthrop at a good time of year as the scenery was stunning and we walked a lot, enjoying the scenery. Boston was a contrast with lots of buzz and things to see. For me choosing this accommodation was a good decision as I had the responsibility to keep 7 other people happy - we were sorry to leave. I would definitely stay here again and hopefully this will happen in the future.

We had a wonderful time on our long-weekend excursion to Boston. There we 6 (adults) of us who stayed at this wonderful unit in Winthrop. The accommodations were great. Everything was there for us - even items that we may have forgotten were there for us to use. The unit is very well decorated and very clean. There is a lovely pool that we unfortunately did not have time to use We walked to a charming local cafe each morning to eat breakfast and then easily caught the T into Boston. Absolutely recommend not having a car as the public transport is so easy to use. There were starter Charlie cards left for us to use and also transit schedules. The owners of the unit are very gracious and offered to pick us up and drop us off at the airport. We had great communication with them before we headed to Boston - asking for recommendations on places for dinner etc. We took the ferry to Salem one day, we were going to rent a car but found out about the ferry from one of the brochures in our unit. If going to Salem - the ferry is the way to go. Enjoy a cup (or bowl) of Chowder at Finz! Go to the House of 7 Gables and to the Oldest Candy Shop. We went on a tour of the Sam Adams Brewery - enjoyed the beer tasting. We also took a bus tour of Boston one day, enjoying Mike's Italian Bakery, the Old North Church, Paul Revere's house, and the Constitution. We wanted to go to Fenway but it was closed for a private event. We were all about the food and drink while we were there. We enjoyed martinis at B6 - enjoyed them so much that we were there 2 nights in a row. We at at the Belle Isle - a small little place in Winthrop - more of a take out place but a terrific way for us to start eating our way thru Boston! fresh, fresh seafood. We had supper at Grotto - be sure to make a reservation. Also ate at Union Oyster House (oldest restaurant in America) and took a couple of Santapios pizza's back to our place. If we travel back to Boston, we would really like to stay at the Seaside Escape again. It was charming, spacious, clean and fit all of our needs. We have even talked about going back as a family. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Many thanks to our gracious hosts for making our excursion so wonderful.

We stayed at the Seaside Escape in August, for our sons graduation from the Wentworth Institute of Technology. We ranged from ages 8 - 83, and every one said it was the perfect place to stay!!! I agree with the past reviewers, absolutely everything clean, in place, decorated beautifully, and that Ed & Barbara provided everything down to the last detail to make your stay as if you were being taken care of by loving family, (they have perfected the delicate balance of being there for every need while leaving us to do our own thing. When we arrived they invited my 83yr old mother to stay and relax, use the pool, so I could go grocery shopping. Barbara even helped to get the groceries up stairs when I returned!!) We were delighted in being able to use the pool and the outside facilities which for us were excellent for our family time together. We were able to shop in the area for food and the kitchen was stocked with everything that was needed for preparation and for serving. We were not trying to do any sight seeing as much as being together as a family and none of us can imagine us having a better time of fellowship or a better place to do so. I have been telling anyone who has kids going to school in Boston, that this is the place to stay!! Most kids love having some home cooking and time to be with family. No rushing around for meals, but being able to be laid back and enjoy each other! We have been blessed to have found this 'home away from home', these are our best memories of the year 2009, (and it was a great year)!!! Thanks Ed & Barbara you are the best hosts of any place we have ever stayed!!

Excellent place to stay to explore Boston and the surrounding communities! Barbara and Ed take great care of their guests. They went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed and gave many helpful tips to get around the city. A short bus ride from Winthrop to Orient Heights station will get you a 't" ride into the city of Boston. We took 2 days to do the Freedom Trail because we wanted to visit each site at our leisure. We picked the best day for weather to do the whale watching. We suggest the whale watch from the Aquarium. It is by far the best! We also took the ferry from Boston harbor to Salem. Which was great! A helpful suggestion to anyone using the public transportation.... invest in a 7 day pass for $15 to ride the "T".... we saved so much money this way! And the "T" train card works on the "t" ferry! The rental unit is centrally located in town.... it is not a far walk anywhere and there is bus service in town. It took us to Yirrell beach and the train station. The rental unit is comfortable and clean. We had 6 adults staying there and could have roomed about 3 more people. There is only one bathroom, but we were able to do just fine with 6 people. The kitchen is well stocked.... the beds comfortable and clean..... I would defintely stay here again. The price is reasonable and you get so much extra because Barbara and Ed make sure you're taken care of! Hope tis review helped! It was a great vacation!

My family and I are absolutely in love with this property because of the kind owners and breathtaking town of Winthrop. We were looking for comfortable lodging close to Boston and we could not have found a more ideal location. It was a quick 10 minute drive or train ride (5 miles or so) right into downtown. We also got to explore a seaside community and see the beauty of a small New England town while being right next to all the attractions of the city of Boston. The owners were so accommodating and helpful. They went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable and easy with two young children. The property had everything you could ever need or want for us - from all the cooking supplies to board games and DVDs. We highly recommend this home rental and hope to be back to enjoy a New England summer or fall.

We recently stayed at this property and found the amenities, convenience and owners excellent. The property itself is extremely convenient to Logan Intl airport nestled in a quiet little community 10 minutes away. The unit is spacious, clean and has all the amenities of home. We arrived from locations across the country so it was great to be able to just crash in the fully furnished kitchen and sitting areas and catch up. We arrived in time to take in the foliage in New Hampshire and were able to quickly jump on the highway taking us north. The proximity to the subway made it very easy to park the car and then jump into Boston and take in the sights there. It was even easier getting to Salem to catch the pre-Halloween activities there. Barbara and Ed were the consumate hosts and ensured that we had everything we needed from rides to and from the airport to directions and suggestions on what to see and do. Thanks to them we had a great trip.
