  The claim that this apartment has cross-ventilation is false--The lower floor--kitchen--is underground with no window. The main floor--does not allow you to open doors--as on the garden side, would be unwise to keep any door opened with--the homeless asleep in cardboard boxes---and transients strolling by all night, while the street side has trash pickup, with deliveries and pick-ups all day and night! This apartment is stifling with the heat. We are leaving to rent a hotel--rather than stay in this apartment. This apartment is perfect if you are deaf--or willing to keep your doors open and risk theft of belongings. While this is a "city" apartment--it is far noisier than our apartment in NYC, Restaurant next door to aparment tosses their used wine bottles into trash beneath your windows all night. Construction noise from apartment renovations too--all before 8 AM! UNACCEPTABLE. We have played musical beds--all moving rooms each night to see if a change would be better. Next time in Paris--we will pay for a HOTEL--where service is responsive to guest comments and concerns!

  Owner response: This two bedroom/one bathroom 65 square metre garden level apartment was rented by a family of 5 in July 2010 during some of our hottest weather. This apartment opens onto the gardens of the Palais Royal in the 1st arrondissement in Paris and is incredibly centrally located. On our listing it is clear that this apartment does not have air conditioning, and the family were also aware of this at the time of booking. There are windows in the bedrooms upstairs that open onto the garden side and street side enabling air to circulate. We provide a detailed description of our apartment, photos and floor plan on our website for anyone considering booking, and also plenty of guest reviews for all to read. It is unfortunate that there were renovations in the next door building (although they did not start before 8am), however this can sometimes happen, and we are not told when work will begin or end in other buildings on the street. As a friendly gesture, we paid for a private chauffeur to collect the family at departure and to take them to the airport - at a cost of 130 Euros. We do our very best to ensure that our guests are happy, as you can see from the reviews on our site, providing service and as much help as possible. It is unreasonable to complain about a situation that is beyond our control or about factors in the apartment that they were already aware of at the time of booking. This is a ground floor apartment situated on a garden. In no big city could you safely expect to leave the doors open onto the streets, however this apartment is in one of the best neighbourhoods in Paris, and I would not personally have any qualms about being in the sitting room and having the door onto the garden open. We are unable to put in AC in this apartment but do provide fans for each room, and in no way try to hide this fact from potential renters. I am sorry that this family were so upset with the stay and I do believe that they would generally be better suited to hotel accommodation.
