The main residence of Hacienda La Verbena may be reserved by returning guests only. It is a ~4000 sq ft home having 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms; an optional 4th bedroom is also available. This resort-like hacienda sleeps 3-8 guests, with plenty of room for everyone to stretch out. Note: When you reserve the main residence alone, the casita remains vacant and is never rented to another party. (For larger groups with up to 12 guests, the ~500 sq. ft. 2 bedroom /2 bathroom casita may also be reserved; see VRBO listing #265545).
Our main residence has extensive vaulted ceilings, 3 bedrooms with king beds (optional 4th bedroom with king bed) and 3 full bathrooms. It has a fully equipped kitchen with large center island and counter wet bar, adjoining den with an audio/video entertainment system, a formal dining room seating 8-12 guests, a grand living room with a fireplace, audio/video entertainment system and billiard area, and a large laundry room. The vast ~1,100 sq. ft. garage accommodates 4 vehicles!
You enter under a deep veranda to begin your dream vacation. This home is a grand hacienda with a Spanish tile roof, peach- and lemon-colored stucco walls, wrought iron sconces, soaring beamed ceilings, an enormous cantera stone fireplace in the living room and tile floors throughout. The home is decorated with quality furnishings, offering a range of styles that will please any taste. Artwork includes dramatic human images by Mexican cubist Diego Rivera, southwestern metal sculpture by Christopher Crooks, and many original works of Latin-American folk art.
Our home offers a relaxing and comfortable vacation, with many quality amenties, including broadband Wi-Fi internet service. The main residence has two big screen LCD HDTV's, Blu-ray DVD/CD players with iPod docks and surround sound systems, with a DVD library of desert 'B movies' and a CD library of eclectic music. It also has a wine captain, 8-foot Olhausen pool table, several board games and a library of reference books focused on local culture and nature.
Step outside to the 12-foot deep shaded veranda running the length of the hacienda. Look out to a sun washed, walled and private courtyard bordered by citrus trees, palm trees and colorful desert plants. The courtyard centerpiece is the sparkling pool and spa. You’ll enjoy amazing 360 degree views of the San Ysidro, Santa Rosa and Vallecito Mountain ranges that frame the Borrego Valley.
Consider a unique getaway! Close your eyes. Dream of a perfect desert vacation. On calm mornings you'll enjoy vivid sunrises over Fonts Point and the cooing of mourning doves. On brilliant afternoons you'll glimpse darting roadrunners as you toss horseshoes in the shade of mature mesquite trees. In the evening you can grill dinner on the north patio while taking in a glorious sunset over Indian Head Mountain. The Verbena House is simply an extraordinary venue. We had our wedding there and cannot imagine having had it anywhere else. All our guests commented upon it, again and again. Besides being extremely beautiful and well laid out, the Verbena House is managed beautifully. It is immaculate; the owners pay attention to every detail, even offering advice about ways to plan more effectively. And the house simply has a good "vibe." It feels "loved." Beyond all this, the setting is absolutely, utterly magical. The property was accurately represented by photos & reviews. It was super clean and the kitchen had all the dishes and utensils needed to cook for a large group. The beds are comfortable. Everything was in working order. The owners are pleasant & informative. We had a marvelous time during our weeks stay. Casa Verbena and the Casita were perfect for our family. We invited kids, grandkids and our siblings to celebrate our anniversary. Some came from very cold places like Idaho and New York, so the 85-89 degree late March weather was a pleasant change. We all enjoyed swimming and sun bathing. The kitchen was well stocked with various pans and utensils so that we could enjoy our chef/son's cooking. There was plenty of room and the desert flowers were in bloom. All amenities were provided as listed, it was very clean and well-maintained, inside and out. Thanks for a great spot for a family gathering. I would definitely recommend it for gatherings of 6-15.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

Hacienda Verbena was the perfect 3-day getaway for our family reunion. We had a great time lounging in the courtyard, and relaxing in the pool and hot tub. We cooked a lot in the large kitchen, and grilled in the outdoor BBQ. The town grocery was stocked with all the essentials, and the local restaurants were inviting. We also did a nice hike under the very warm sun and saw groups of Big Horn Sheep along the way. At night, we toasted marshmallows and had smores by the courtyard fire pit and stared up at the stars. What more could you ask for? Plus, the owner was extremely responsive and offered good suggestions to help us make the most of our vacation.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Our family of nine, including two toddlers and one infant, took full advantage of all that the hacienda had to offer. In thinking of what to write about the experience, the adults all agreed that it is definitely a very special place. Though the photos were accurate, the feeling of openness and comfort at the hacienda could not have been conveyed in a blurb. We all appreciated that the house was spotlessly clean. We were so relaxed there enjoying the pool, the games, the grill and, in general, the lifestyle that was offered. The owner was happily available to answer any questions that we had. We definitely will recommend this property to friends or relatives who might be interested in visiting Borrego. Outside of the house, the hiking, the birdwatching and walking in the area are exceptional. It was an unforgettable start to a lovely week in California for our family.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Our widespread family of 11 people used this spacious Hacienda (and attached casita) for a reunion over the long Presidents' Day weekend. The six bedrooms (2 in the casita) were naturally divided into 3 sections, each of which had good privacy. The quiet neighborhood and the surrounding low stone wall made the enclosed property into our own little world. The kids (teen and pre-teen) enjoyed playing catch in the large patio and used the spa quite a bit (the adults also, but somewhat less). The large central room had a pool table that was well used and there was a large TV in there as well. The separate dining room was just right for a birthday dinner. There was quick access to the State Park's Reception Center at the edge of town, with its wonderful Palm Canyon hike. As a surprise, the little horseshoe court behind the garages also provided lots of fun. So we did not run out of things to do. In short, we had a great time in a place that suited us very well, and so we highly recommend it.Recommended for: Families with teenagers.

My only complaint is that it was difficult to leave! It was the perfect spot for a family vacation. The views are postcard perfect. It was hard to pry everyone off the immense and ultra comfortable couch and off the pool chairs to go explore the park. For 2 nights of our stay there were 11 of us and the home is so spacious, we never felt crowded. The home is even better than the pictures promise! The entire home and property are immaculate, the furnishings comfortable and the interior design pleasing. The owner is a wonderful source of information about the area and gave great advice on hikes not to miss. Can't wait until we get to return!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

Hacienda la Verbena (HLV) definitely lives up to the internet hype. Everything was in great working order and the surrounding property is gorgeous. From inside HLV, twice we saw coyote. At nearby Borrego Palm Canyon, we observed a group of seven bighorn sheep grazing peacefully. We took full advantage of all of the amenities during our week long stay: pool table, wi-fi, hot tub, home theater, gas grill, outdoor fireplace, etc. If you bring a 'full crew' of 12 (six couples) remember that one of the five bathrooms is shared between two bedrooms. If you love the desert outdoors, bring a decent 4-wheel-drive vehicle. There are so many great adventures waiting for you off the pavement. Also, don't miss all of the great metal statues on Borrego Springs Road. Just drive right up to them and take a few snaps. The Sea Serpent is awesome.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children.

This is an amazing property. The house is exactly as described and represented in the website photos. The house is extremely well-equipped and immaculate. I have rented the property at least four times now, usually for business executive retreats and/or entertaining business guests. The large kitchen and dining room make meals easy and enjoyable. There is also a BBQ outdoors. The living room is extremely spacious and includes a pool table. The outdoor portico around the pool is a great place to relax outdoors and enjoy the fresh air and pleasant temperatures. There are miles and miles of beautiful trails and back roads in Anza Borrego State Park, which surrounds the property. Lots of fantastic exploring, wildflower viewing, hiking, and off-roading. I could not be more happy with the property and location.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
