The Verbena House is simply an extraordinary venue. We had our wedding there and cannot imagine having had it anywhere else. All our guests commented upon it, again and again. Besides being extremely beautiful and well laid out, the Verbena House is managed beautifully. It is immaculate; the owners pay attention to every detail, even offering advice about ways to plan more effectively. And the house simply has a good "vibe." It feels "loved." Beyond all this, the setting is absolutely, utterly magical. I cannot recommend this property more highly.

Hacienda Verbena was the perfect 3-day getaway for our family reunion. We had a great time lounging in the courtyard, and relaxing in the pool and hot tub. We cooked a lot in the large kitchen, and grilled in the outdoor BBQ. The town grocery was stocked with all the essentials, and the local restaurants were inviting. We also did a nice hike under the very warm sun and saw groups of Big Horn Sheep along the way. At night, we toasted marshmallows and had smores by the courtyard fire pit and stared up at the stars. What more could you ask for? Plus, the owner was extremely responsive and offered good suggestions to help us make the most of our vacation.

Casa Verbena and the Casita were perfect for our family. We invited kids, grandkids and our siblings to celebrate our anniversary. Some came from very cold places like Idaho and New York, so the 85-89 degree late March weather was a pleasant change. We all enjoyed swimming and sun bathing. The kitchen was well stocked with various pans and utensils so that we could enjoy our chef/son's cooking. There was plenty of room and the desert flowers were in bloom. All amenities were provided as listed, it was very clean and well-maintained, inside and out. Thanks for a great spot for a family gathering. I would definitely recommend it for gatherings of 6-15.

Our family of nine, including two toddlers and one infant, took full advantage of all that the hacienda had to offer. In thinking of what to write about the experience, the adults all agreed that it is definitely a very special place. Though the photos were accurate, the feeling of openness and comfort at the hacienda could not have been conveyed in a blurb. We all appreciated that the house was spotlessly clean. We were so relaxed there enjoying the pool, the games, the grill and, in general, the lifestyle that was offered. The owner was happily available to answer any questions that we had. We definitely will recommend this property to friends or relatives who might be interested in visiting Borrego. Outside of the house, the hiking, the birdwatching and walking in the area are exceptional. It was an unforgettable start to a lovely week in California for our family.

The property was accurately represented by photos & reviews. It was super clean and the kitchen had all the dishes and utensils needed to cook for a large group. The beds are comfortable. Everything was in working order. The owners are pleasant & informative. We had a marvelous time during our weeks stay. We would definitely recommend this property to others.

Our widespread family of 11 people used this spacious Hacienda (and attached casita) for a reunion over the long Presidents' Day weekend. The six bedrooms (2 in the casita) were naturally divided into 3 sections, each of which had good privacy. The quiet neighborhood and the surrounding low stone wall made the enclosed property into our own little world. The kids (teen and pre-teen) enjoyed playing catch in the large patio and used the spa quite a bit (the adults also, but somewhat less). The large central room had a pool table that was well used and there was a large TV in there as well. The separate dining room was just right for a birthday dinner. There was quick access to the State Park's Reception Center at the edge of town, with its wonderful Palm Canyon hike. As a surprise, the little horseshoe court behind the garages also provided lots of fun. So we did not run out of things to do. In short, we had a great time in a place that suited us very well, and so we highly recommend it.

My only complaint is that it was difficult to leave! It was the perfect spot for a family vacation. The views are postcard perfect. It was hard to pry everyone off the immense and ultra comfortable couch and off the pool chairs to go explore the park. For 2 nights of our stay there were 11 of us and the home is so spacious, we never felt crowded. The home is even better than the pictures promise! The entire home and property are immaculate, the furnishings comfortable and the interior design pleasing. The owner is a wonderful source of information about the area and gave great advice on hikes not to miss. Can't wait until we get to return!

Hacienda la Verbena (HLV) definitely lives up to the internet hype. Everything was in great working order and the surrounding property is gorgeous. From inside HLV, twice we saw coyote. At nearby Borrego Palm Canyon, we observed a group of seven bighorn sheep grazing peacefully. We took full advantage of all of the amenities during our week long stay: pool table, wi-fi, hot tub, home theater, gas grill, outdoor fireplace, etc. If you bring a 'full crew' of 12 (six couples) remember that one of the five bathrooms is shared between two bedrooms. If you love the desert outdoors, bring a decent 4-wheel-drive vehicle. There are so many great adventures waiting for you off the pavement. Also, don't miss all of the great metal statues on Borrego Springs Road. Just drive right up to them and take a few snaps. The Sea Serpent is awesome.

This is an amazing property. The house is exactly as described and represented in the website photos. The house is extremely well-equipped and immaculate. I have rented the property at least four times now, usually for business executive retreats and/or entertaining business guests. The large kitchen and dining room make meals easy and enjoyable. There is also a BBQ outdoors. The living room is extremely spacious and includes a pool table. The outdoor portico around the pool is a great place to relax outdoors and enjoy the fresh air and pleasant temperatures. There are miles and miles of beautiful trails and back roads in Anza Borrego State Park, which surrounds the property. Lots of fantastic exploring, wildflower viewing, hiking, and off-roading. I could not be more happy with the property and location.

The home is absolutely unbelievable, the owner is one of the nicest people you will EVER meet and the price is incredibly low for what you are getting! As we pulled into the driveway we noticed right away how immaculate and how perfectly manicured the grounds were. When we opened the entrance door to the courtyard, our jaws dropped when we saw the awesome pool area. We entered the home and couldn't get over how big and beautifully decorated it was. The photos on the website are really great, but you have to see it and experiecne it in person to appreciate the gradeur of the property. It is very apparent that the owners love Borrego and all it has to offer and they want to share it with as many people as possible. The owner is very knowledgeable about the area and it's obvious by his actions that he genuinely cares about his guests experience - he wants to ensure that everyone has the best time during their stay at his home. I am in the travel industry and I lead the guest service team for the travel company at the "Happiest Place on Earth", so I am no stranger to outstanding service. I can honestly say that the level of service the owner provided us was 'above and beyond' any service I have experienced anywhere else. So here's my advise, do yourself a huge favor and book a stay at the Hacienda La Verbena. You won't be disappointed. If you think you want only 3 nights, I strongly suggest you go ahead and book a fourth night because you are probably not going to want to leave. Read the rest the of the reviews and you will see everyone is saying the same thing. If you stay, you will be saying the same as well. You will also probably agree that it's an excellent value for the enormous home you're getting at a super low rate. We will definitely be coming back in the near future. (I just hope that the owner doesn't figure out that he could be charging double what he is charging now and it would still be a great value for the money!!)

A group of friends and I take an annual trip to relax and catch up and this year we decided we wanted to travel to Borrego Springs. My dad grew up there, so I'm familiar with the area, and my description of the town had people convinced in no time. There's just something magical about Borrego Springs: the laid back pace; the clean, fresh, desert air; an endless sea of stars to see at night; the list goes on and on. It also helped that we were staying at such an amazing property. The pictures do not nearly do it justice. It has everything you need, and more!! There were 14 of us, and the house never felt crowded. Everyone had their own space to nap, read, or lounge in the sun. We went hiking, rode ATVs (Desert Quad Stop in Ocotillo Wells has phenomenal customer service). went to a Casino, got spa treatments at the Borrego Springs Resort, and prepared amazing meals in the huge and perfectly equipped kitchen. We left the desert relaxed, recharged, and vowing to return. I cannot recommend Hacienda La Verbena highly enough. This will truly make your vacation dreams come true!

It's difficult to know what to say when something exceeds your expectations so stunningly as did the Hacienda. The owners have crafted a beautiful, pristine property, immaculately furnished and tended, with every detail thought through, so this is like stepping in to your dream home and living the dream while you're there. After our long journey from the UK, we were apprehensive as looking at something on the internet is no real guarantee that what you see is what you'll get, but this was just amazing. The web site doesn't do it justice! The owners were extremely helpful, and the whole experience was unforgettable. We'll be back!

This was our first time staying at Hacienda La Verbena. We had carefully pored over the photos but our reaction after opening the door to the courtyard and then exploring the home was "Wow!" The photos do not do it justice. We were in town for a week of hiking and the home owner gave us some excellent hiking suggestions. We took off one day from hiking to enjoy everything that the house had to offer - an exceptionally well-equipped kitchen, a fun assortment of desert movies, a pool table, a spa. With binoculars, we could see mountain sheep on the mountains, and on some evenings we could hear coyotes howling. This property is highly recommended. It is exceptional and we'll be back!

You couldn't design a house, town or terrain more perfect for cycling training in the winter. There are empty, pancake flat roads around town, and beautiful, epic climbs (also on mostly empty roads) within 2 miles of the house. We did 500 miles in 8 days with about 30k feet of climbing. The house was an excellent place to relax and recover (around the pool, in the hot tub, on the huge couches, in the large kitchen) while not riding, and the large garage was perfect and convenient for storing all of our bikes. The owner also helped out with some excellent ride recommendations. Overall it was a great experience and we hope to be back.

I have been renting facilities for the past eight years for small corporate retreats. This is as good as it gets. The owners pay meticulous attention to every detail-- every detail! Whatever our needs-- extra beds, recommendations for hikes, weather details, or accommodating our time schedule-- they have provided outstanding service. And when it comes to comfort, luxury, and cleanliness, this home gets highest marks. I just finished my fourth retreat at this home, and am already looking forward to returning again. The fact that it is in a spectacular desert setting makes it the complete deal.

Our family of 5 just got back from a week in Borrego Springs, Ca. The home we rented was fabulous. We were pleased with the location and the amenities. The beds were great and the house was comfortably (and elegantly) furnished. The acoustics were great for guitar playing and the house was big enough for me to set up my piano keyboard as well. The gourmet kitchen gave us all the tools to cook great meals and we even made homemade ice cream for the first time. It was a great location for day trips to Fonts Point, Salton Sea, Palm Springs and biking around the Anza Borrego Park. Bring your bicycles! There's plenty of secure storage space in the garage and Borrego is the perfect place for biking and hiking. For dining I would highly recommend Assiaggo at the airport, or The Arches. It was a vacation we will all fondly remember.

This is a beautiful property in a beautiful setting. Our week there was delightful. The pool is a perfect size, and the summer sun kept the water temperature perfect. The house is inviting and easy to be in. Two large screen TV's, a great kitchen, and beautifully furnished bedrooms with lots of space were a pleasure. The listing described the property perfectly. The property and house are maintained in excellent condition. The owner was most helpful in answering questions as well as the local caretaker who was very responsive. This is a great property and we hope to return soon.

This spacious, beautiful, clean home is a wonderful, restful vacation place. The sparkling pool and spa are enclosed within a private courtyard with amazing desert landscape. Sitting under the Mesquite tree, shaded by its blossoms, we were lulled to sleep by the humming of the bees. You too may be entertained by a majestic sunset and two lizard hunting Roadrunners on your evening walk. Visit Hacienda La Verbena when all you want is to be surrounded by luxury, peace, and quiet. very spacious and lots of privacy for a big family. location was also really nice, secluded but just a few minutes drive to (small) town or anzo borrego park. had pretty much everything we needed, although some umbrellas for shade would have been nice on the back patio where we ate breakfast and watched for wildlife every morning. and maybe a few upright comfortable chairs (the cement patio tables and benches are lovely and well positioned, but not very comfortable) for reading on back deck. very clean all around and well kept. well appointed kitchen (we are a family of cooks and it was a great kitchen for multi cooks). photos are if anything less grand than the reality. the rooms are all very big. louis was very responsive and professional. i would definitely rent this house again and recommend to friends! make sure to get some ice cream at the fudge shop in town. the date shakes are soooo good.

Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

Owner response: Nina, thank you for suggestions. There is good reason not to use light-weight furniture and umbrellas. The Anza-Borrego desert can sometimes be a very rugged place, so when a rare strong storm blows over the local mountain ranges, Borrego may be subjected to gail-force winds. Our solid concrete benches and tables under the 12-foot deep shaded veranda substitute well for flimsy furniture that otherwise would sail away shredded to the Salton Sea....!

Our family stayed during spring break for 3 nights. It was a beautiful! The gracious home was well-appointed for everything we needed! We barbecued every night and enjoyed the sunset changing the colors of the mountain. The house itself was immaculate and there was something to do for every one of our age groups. Our kids had fun with the pool and hot tub and we all had fun exploring the local shops and art galleries-every person we encountered was friendly and helpful. The art galleries and shops have a lot of fun and affordable gifts and collectibles. We also did a day trip to Ocotillo Wells to ride our dirt bikes (only 20 min. away)! The only problem with the house is that the photos don't do it justice! It is even more gorgeous inside and out. We plan on returning and I would highly recommend a stay here to anyone!

My family of 14ppl was very comfortble in this gorgeous house in the desert. We only wish it wasn't as far away as it is. Took us about 3hrs to get there since we took it slow thru the curving mountain. The house is EXACTLY like the pictures, and VERY clean/maintained upon ur arrival. Owner was great to answering my questions prior to arrival. One of my in-laws was already planning a trip here for next yr. : )

Owner response: We recommend flying into San Diego International Airport, because the beautiful mountain drive to Borrego Springs is approx. 1 hour 45 minutes, compared with the longer drive from Los Angeles International Airport.
