Map & Owner's Profile
Tranquility with Grandfather and Sugar Mountain Views
Year Purchased: 2009
Why the Owner Chose Banner Elk
When Dan Plyler built this home, we thought he had achieved the perfect cottage. It complemented the conservation easement surrounding this cottage, and we wanted to have an income to preserve the feeling of the area and protect it from becoming densely developed. The house focuses the attention on the incredible views of Grandfather and Sugar Mountain. It is also easy to access by road and still provides a sense of privacy and solitude.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage
You are supporting a conservation easement to limit the development of this area. The 20 acres above and below you will never change. We think you will like it that way!
Owner's Map of Banner Elk
I have loved this area ever since I attended the Outward Bound School at Table Rock. Ginny and I have always enjoyed hiking this area and find our time here very relaxing. My Uncle Clifford purchased this property when he was sent to the old Banner Elk hospital after dental school. His wife, Peggy, an avid naturalist, was the inspiration that established this farm as a conservation easement. With all the development in the area, we wanted the farmland to remind people of what this area used to be. We hope you appreciate our vision, and capture the feeling.

We were pleasantly surprised by a wonderful mountain view. The property is conveniently located with quick access to the excellent Banner Elk restaurants as well as Beech Mountain skiing. We did not go to Sugar Mountain but it appeared to be only minutes away. The house was clean, cozy and well stocked with essentials like dinnerware, cookware, towels, etc. There is a fun hiking area behind the house. We look forward to returning.
Owner response:We are happy you enjoyed your stay at Tranquility. And yes, Sugar Mountain is only 7 miles away!

It is called Tranquillity and rightfully so! The views of Grandfather and Sugar Mtns were awesome...as we sat in the living room recliners and gazed out the window. This was no ordinary "rental". No this felt so much like home! We enjoyed the hot tub every evening and the hiking trails right behind the house as the gorgeous fall colors surrounded us. A short ride to Banner Elk we also enjoyed their beautiful town park. We very much enjoyed our stay here and hope to come back soon!

My husband and two sons ages 6 and 9 stayed here recently for our first ever family trip to NC. We were visiting my husbands sister who recently moved to Banner Elk. After searching the internet, I found this listing. It just so happened to be close to the local winery where she happens to be working at. We were a bit hesitant to book online, so I had her drive by to see if fit the description. She immediately called to say that it did and that it was close to the downtown area of the town as well. We booked it, and must say we were more than pleased. It was even more beautiful than the photos on the listing. It was clean and very well maintained. The property and views from the front of the house were amazing. The hot tub as well as fishing from the pond were big hits with my boys, as well as my husband. I loved the fact that it seemed like we were so far away from the rest of the world, but in reality we were close to shopping, restaurants, and the attractions. We have already spread the word to family and friends. Thank you to the owner for being so friendly. We can't wait to come back.
Owner response:Marjy thought the boys were great. She was confident they would explore every nook and cranny of the farm! Looking forward to having you back!

I took my three sons to Banner Elk to ski the first weekend in February. The cabin was perfect for us. It is clean and well maintained and the owner was very friendly and helpful in the rental process as well as providing us all the logistical information we needed. I have already recommended this cabin to a friend looking to take his wife and children skiing. I think my kids enjoyed the hot tub the most--there is nothing quite like soaking away the sore muscles after a day of skiing.

My family and I stayed the week of Christmas. I was impressed from the moment we drove into the property. Everything mentioned on the listing was very accurate. The house had beautiful views from every room and the house was clean and well maintained. The house was close to town as well as the ski slopes. The owner was available to answer all our questions. I highly reccomend this property and look forward to visiting Tranquility again.
Owner response:We're so happy that you enjoyed it! That home has been relaxing ever since the day it was built. We plan to add outside fireplace in September and refinish the bathroom In April. We look forward to having you back.

My friend and I had a wonderful time at this beautiful spot. The home was very comfortable, clean and well equipped. We had beautiful views of the mountains, and the location was close to town. I highly recommend this property! The listing description is totally accurate, as are the photos. The owners were extremely helpful with any of my questions, and I would absolutely recommend this property to a friend. As a matter of fact, I have already made a recommendation.
