We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in beautiful Sunshine Cottage. The location directly across the street from Kailua Beach Park was perfect. The cottage was beautiful and contained everything we needed. We also enjoyed meeting and visiting with the owners. We would definitely stay here again and will recommend it to friends. We enjoyed also walking to Lanikai Beach and the handy K. Market every morning. Buzz's restaurant is so convenient and we also enjoyed The Grove in Kailua Town. We rented bikes and they made for a nice ride around the town.

Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The cottage is perfect ! There is everything that you could imagine to need ... Very well manteined, beautiful decoration, perfect location, walking distance to wonderfull beaches ( Kailua and Lanikai ). I've been renting houses in Oahu for about 10 years, and definitely the Sunshine Cottage is one of the best ones .. Thanks for everything Susan ! Claudia

Upon arriving we were greeted by the friendly and helpful owners. The cottage is fabulous and very comfortable for the two of us. Everything was in working order including the washer and dryer. The bed was very comfortable. The location is perfect. We walked across the street to the beach carrying beach chairs and snacks and spent a relaxed afternoon with the locals. We drove into Honolulu once to see Pearl Harbor and Waikiki-- what a madhouse of tour buses and traffic! Thank you for a wonderful stay!!!!

High-quality small cottage, easy walk to good beach, convenient 5-10 minute drive to center of Kailua. Quite satisfactory attentive help from the agent with the inevitable minor problems. In February, though swimming in the ocean is fun, it can be choppy, it's not far to a free 50-meter municipal fresh-water pool near the fire dept in Kailua. And one of the world's best beaches, at Bellows Field (about 15 minutes away by car), is open to the public from noon Friday through Sunday--for military, open almost always. Btw, a car is pretty much necessary, though there is a bus stop nearby.

Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway.

Charming and comfortable cottage. Lots of space, clean and lovely decor. Fun to be in a real town and not in a touristy area. Easy walk to the beach. Beach chairs and towels are provided. Just beware that the cottage is on a small lane with other homes very close to it. We had very loud neighbors in the rental property next door- not too pleasant. In spite of that, still would highly recommend Sunshine Cottage.

Very nice cottage with lovely garden and patio. Plenty of space and great kitchen with everything you need. Not too touristy, real residential area. Low-key and relaxing place. Beautiful sandy beaches - Kailua and Lanikai - are easy walking distance. Perfect location for water activities like kayaking, wind surfing, and stand-up paddle boarding.

I found this property to be perfect. The open floor plan of the living/dining/kitchen with windows on three sides allowed for nice breezes to flow through the house when it wasn't too hot to need the A/C. The kitchen was fully stocked with beautiful appliances, anything you would need to cook a nice meal. I stayed at this property alone, but it would be best for a couple or someone traveling solo. I felt right at home. The location less than a block from Kailua Beach and the park was also great. Restaurants, shops, etc. are all a very short drive away. Biking and running trails both in Kailua and Lanikai were also very convenient. The value for the price far exceeded my expectations - this is a true gem!

I have always hesitated to write a review of this beautiful little cottage because we want to keep it all to ourselves. Everything is perfect! It is our dream that we could live in it all year long! Jim and Marg are the perfect host and hostess, they are so personable and we always look forward to seeing them on our visit.

We cannot say enough about our stay in Oahu at the sunshine cottage! The description of the accommodation is spot on: right across from the beach, access to all local amenities and back on a private driveway off the main road. The cottage was spotlessly clean and made our vacation in Hawaii one to remember for years. Kailua has great local restaurants but also great markets and a Whole Foods within driving/walking distance which allowed us to get groceries and BBQ during our stay which we loved & helped to keep our spending budget on point for the week, too. We got our security deposit back quickly & Susie made herself available to answer any questions leading up to our stay. Thanks for a great vacation rental! we look forward to returning soon! Spent a wonderful summer vacation at Sunshine cottage

It was much better experience than expected. We've been really relaxing at home and enjoying breeze coming through windows until midnight. We felt very safe there since we could feel atmosphere of neighbors around us but it didn't disturb at all our life. Kailua town is very close and we also enjoyed shopping at Farmer's market on Thursday. Property was clean, nicely decorated and large enough for 2 persons, nice shower, a lot of kitchen utensils which made me want to cook.The pictures of the house were all accurate, the house was well maintained. It was like staying at Grandma's house for me. I've felt even nostalgic. I would absolutely recommend this property to our friends.

The sunshine cottage is an amazing little property (the pictures show!), the beach park together with one of the most beautiful beaches I have seen (and this is quite a lot) across the street. The house is well equipped with everything you need: kitchenwise, towel-wise even a laundry machine and a dryer. It is fondly decorated with nice little items one looks at relaxing on the couch. There are only 2 tiny tiny things we realized, one is that the neighbors next door get up extremely early which for us, being on the first vacation after 5 years, was a little annoying in the mornings and the other thing is that closets, cabbies and their content like glasses and silver ware, pots and pans could be a little less sticky and cleaner. NEARBY: The village store (kalapawai market) is great, try the subs and salads there. The nearby restaurant called Buzz`s we tried for a dinner is not neccessarily recommendable but it´s just down the street. Have a steak and you are fine, do not mind the sauces, sides, salad, starters or desserts... OVERALL: WE CAN`T WAIT TO COME BACK AGAIN and thanks Susie for you availibility at all times!

This was the first leg - of the first trip - to Hawaii for my wife and me, and what a great way to start our vacation! Jim, the owner, happened to be there when we first arrived, and he graciously took the time to show us throughout the cottage and to offer suggestions for dining in the area. I had read in previous reviews that finding the cottage was a little challenging, but with the aid of Google street view before the trip I was able to "virtually" find the turn-off from the main road (in the street view, start at Buzz's Steak House and look for the 2nd bus stop sign), so when we actually arrived finding the cottage was easy. The cottage itself was just like many other reviewers have already said - very comfortable,with everything in excellent condition (great shower!). Kailua Beach Park (just across the street) was a great place to people-watch, enjoy the water, and get caught up in the vibe of the area - it was clean, felt safe, and was obviously a favorite of the locals. And we found Kailua to be a great base of operations for our Oahu stay - away from the bustle of Honolulu, but with quick access to excellent roads to the city, as well as the North and South Shore drives. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Sunshine Cottage and would recommend it to anyone.

My husband and I absolutely loved the Sunshine Cottage! It is beautifully appointed, very quiet and peaceful, and an excellent location. We loved walking on the beach right across the street and to the beach deli right down the road. We would definitely stay here again!

My wife and I have rented many properties in Kailua and Laniki over the years while visiting family and, without exception, this is the best one bedroom unit we have found - We plan to stay there again on our next annual trip.

My husband and I stayed at the Sunshine Cottage from 9 December thru 5 January. The cottage was absolutely gorgeous! Pride of ownership is evident throughout the cottage. We felt so comfortable and every amenity was provided from dozens of beach and bath towels to boogie boards and beach chairs. Internet access was included as well. The cottage has top of the line appliances to include washer and dryer and beautiful hard wood floors. The location is perfect; directly across the street from Kailua Beach Park. My husband and I walked every day around the park and along the beach. This cottage is such a relaxing retreat, I only wish we could have stayed longer. I would highly recommend The Sunshine Cottage!

The sunshine cottage is a delightful place albeit a tad difficult to find. Beautifully appointed & includes a baby grand piano. It is on the windward side of Oahu which means that it is windy! We recommend the Kawalapai market / deli for great sandwiches. We had a wonderful time & were glad we avoided the hordes of tourists & big city lights of Honolulu.

Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The cottage was just as the pictures showed. Spacious for two people yet cozy and welcoming. All the latest cookware and appliances. The beach is just a few minutes walk and probably one of the best beaches we have ever been to. The sand is fine and gentle on the feet. We couldn't have stayed at a better location. We want to thank you, Susie, for such a beautiful place to stay.

Oh my gosh, where to start!!! What a gorgeous home! The photos inside and out are very accurate. Whomever designed this home did an amazing job. Loads of windows and doors made for a great cross breeze. The cottage was exceptionally clean...the bed very comfortable. The kitchen is fully equipped should you decide to stay home and prepare meals. It didn't take us long to get completely comfortable and wish we were the lucky homeowners. The one thing that did surprise me though was that there was only enough hot water for one person to have a hot shower. Other than that, the location is perfect! You are basically right across the street from the bike/running path and from there you are steps away to the beach. It was very handy if you got all settled at the beach and then realized that you had forgotten something and had to go back for it! You're so close...it was not a problem to do just that! And if you get a chance, don't miss out on the Thursday night market...delicious food! We love Kailua town and this would be our first choice for accommodation when we return.

There is an 80 gallon tank dedicated to the cottage. It is on a timer. If the electricity goes out the timer may beturning the hot water heater on at times when you wouldn't need hot water and leaving no hot water when you would need it. We will have this checked out. Beautiful and relaxing cottage, steps from the beach

We stayed in the Cottage February 2011 for almost a week and I'm certain that when we return again - if we are without our kids! - we'll stay here again. It was completely relaxing - everything from the setting in a quiet residential neighborhood across the street from the beach, to the thoughtful set up of the cottage itself. Every detail was considered: a fully stocked kitchen (which we took advantage of), a peaceful outdoor area for eating, a deliciously comfortable bed, a bathroom that is better than the one I have at home, ceiling fans everywhere, windows all around. It was wonderful! Thank you for such a great vacation.

This cottage is absolutely beautiful! The photos and description do not do it justice. It is in a perfect location and has absolutely everything you could ever want in a vacation rental! We felt like we were living in a Better Homes and Garden magazine and can't wait to do it all over again. Buzz's Steakhouse and Kalapawai market are within walking distance, I loved my morning walk to Lanikai beach. The only negative about our stay was that we had to leave and come home :( Thank you so much Jim and Marge and to you Susie for convincing us this is the best rental in Kailua!

We really enjoyed our stay in the cottage. The cottage looked exactly as the photos showed. It was wonderful having the beach literally just across the street from the condo. The condo is bright, clean, and spacious (we set up an air mattress in the living area with plenty of room to spare). Thank you very much!

An ideal location for family vacation, this condo is located across the street from the beach which offers swimming, kayaking, and wind surfing. It's a short drive into town with good restaurants including the Baci Bistro and Boots and Kimo's a must stop for their macadamia nut pancakes. A quick drive down the 61 takes you into the heart of Honolulu. The condo offers a relaxing deck and plenty of seating and all the amenities of home. Great place with an everchanging view of mountains and clouds. Relaxing, that is if you take the time to relax. Plenty to do for the adventurous hiker, biker, or swimmer.

The Sunshine Cottage was absolutely perfect. I spent a lot of time researching rentals and I couldn't be happier with our choice. I look forward to many more visits. Location - Kailua is the perfect beach town. Wonderful food, gorgeous beaches, friendly locals and amazing golf. The cottage location in Kailua is perfect, walking distance to the beach and the beach park. Convenient parking, walking distance to Kalapawai market, bike & running trails. Accommodations - the cottage is wonderful, everything feels brand new and upgraded. The fully stocked kitchen made cooking at the cottage so easy. The open living space with wifi was so convenient to get a little work done (yes, even on vacation). Washer, dryer, dishwasher, everything you need for an easy, relaxing vacation. Thank you for the wonderful stay!
