When other vacation plans fell through, we decided to come back to Alligator Point for another visit and (as I noted in my previous review) didn't even look for another house. Janine was able to accommodate us on very short notice and was again a gracious host. The house had everything we needed and the weather was wonderful. I'm sure we'll be back again!

One of our best family weekends! We were in Tallahassee for FSU Parent's Weekend and after the game spent a couple of days at Alligator Point. The house was everything we had hoped for and more. It was decorated beautifully and was extremely clean, had everything we needed and was a 2 minute walk to the beach. We ate all of our meals in and stayed mostly at the house and beach, did a 750 piece puzzle and played lots of slap jack. We had grandparents, our 8 year old and our 19 year old with us and there was plenty of room for everyone. Just like the other reviews, we saw dolphin in knee deep water and beautiful sunsets. We definitely will be back and would highly recommend this location.

My husband, our four small boys, my parents and myself stayed at this most incredible house last June. In looking for places near Alligator Point, I was amazed when I came across 'A Shore Thing.' This house is a treasure and the beach is the most peaceful beach we've ever seen or enjoyed. Very few families were on the beach while we were there almost making it seem as though the beach were just ours to enjoy. The owner was most helpful in arranging our stay, answering a ton of my questions and offering ideas for our entertainment and pleasure during our stay. My parents are already talking about going back. Note: it is secluded and the nearest gas station was 15 minutes away. We did see an baby alligator at the nearby state park. It really was a vacation to remember. We consider staying there a real treat. Oh and the screened-in porch was fantastic. The ONLY thing i wish were different is that you cannot see the beach from the house. But in less than 5 minutes, you are there.

This was our first trip to Alligator Point...but it won't be our last! This house is definitely one of the nicer on Alligator Point. It was extremely well decorated, clear, well kept and top of the line amenities. Although not directly on the beach, my wife and I, along with our four children could walk there is less than 2 minutes. The house has everything you might need. The beach seems extremely secluded, would go hours and only see a handful of people. The kids saw dolphin in knee deep water, caught fish off the beach and played for hours along the sandy shores. A beach walk at sunset is a must. There were also beach chairs, bikes, beach cart, fishing rods/reels/gear for our use as well. I would be sure to have a device for the WiFi (provided at the house), since we had no cell coverage. Overall, I would highly recommend this house and hope to be able to make it down again soon! It was a hit with the whole family!

My wife and I are "hotel snobs" and insist on cleanliness when we travel. This house certainly fit the bill. It was carefully decorated and immaculately clean. It had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. This house was close enough to civilization when you needed it, yet far enough away to forget it. Janine was pleasant and helpful in all our email exchanges. My deposit was refunded promptly. My only "complaint" (well, my wife's, actually) was that we had to walk across the street to reach the beach. It took all of two minutes, but I guess you can't please everyone all the time. :-) This minor inconvenience in no way means we wouldn't stay here again. In fact, if we ever decide to visit Alligator Point in the future, I wouldn't even check out other rentals!

We visited "A Shore Thing" for Spring Break 2011. We absolutely loved the house! It is exquisitely decorated and is super-comfortable. The front screened porch is so relaxing. You can open the french doors from the living room and kitchen and enjoy the sounds of the ocean. The walk to the public beach access is less than one lot away(it is across the street, although the traffic is non-existant). The beach is nice. The wildlife is amazing in this area. We had never seen dolphins come so close to shore before! The bear tracks did kind of freak us all out a bit, howeverwe learned you just run the risk of encountering them if you are out after dark. We ate at Angelos (pretty pricey for what you get), but the best food we had was at Poseys Up the Creek. Not fancy, but great food. We had the best raw oysters - a dozen for $4! I can't say enough for Janine, the homeowner. She answered all my question sand gave many great tips for our vacation. Would definitely go back!

My family rented this home last November for our Thanksgiving vacation. My elderly parents were so looking forward to sitting on the front porch as described and "take in the sights and sounds of the Gulf." This is totally deceiving. You absolutely cannot see the Gulf from this home. You can't even see it from the loft as they describe it with a water view. It is also not "adjacent" to beach access. The home is nice with modern amenities, but somewhat odd in its decor. One bedroom has the beds so high, you need some sort of assist to get in them, which for people in their 60s was unbelievably difficult. We have rented many VRBO homes, and this is the first one that ruined a vacation. If you're looking for an ocean view home, try another listing.

The most beautiful beach house we have ever rented! Tastefully decorated and not overdone. Very comfortable furniture. Awesome screened porch--ate every meal and sat out there every evening till bedtime. Owner is very friendly and helpful. The house has all the supplies you would ever need for your beach activities. I was a little disappointed at first we could not see the beach, but quickly got over it. A short walk to the beach, but nice--the beach access was very well maintained. Fresh and tasty seafood readily available nearby. We ate once at Up the Creek in Panacea--oysters and gator---marvelous! I would most definitely recommend this beach house. We relaxed with our friends and left rejuvinated. A huge thank you to the owner again for sharing this wonderful vacation home.

WOW!!! What a beautiful home!!! I thought this vacation would be great but the uniqueness and decorating style and warmth of this home was beyond my wildest dreams. Let me see if I can remember all the wildlife: Dolphins galore!!! White squirells, cranes, pelicans, sea gulls, sea turtles etc. Janine, Thank-you for your generous hospitality 1000 times over.

We have had a lot of fun..We went wakeboarding and rode the waves like crazy. This beach house is awesome! We also went to a state park and saw a huge bug. It was about 2 and a half inches long. At the beach, we also made a sea turtle. Thank-you so much!

Thank-you so much for sharing your beautiful home with us. We loved the seclusion. Most days we had the beach to ourselves. We loved everything about the house. So comfortably elegant. We celebrated a 21st birthday with a sunset picnic on the beach--how beautiful! Alligator Point turned out to be everything we had hoped for. Thank-you again.

This home is even more gorgeous than the pictures. Beautifully decorated, comfortable beds, and luxurious linens. Such attention to detail, and extremely well-maintained. There are bikes and fishing poles and even beach towels and toys. We enjoy cooking, and the kitchen was superb. The layout of the house also allowed our "chef" to interact with everyone else while he prepared our food. We enjoyed many wonderful meals on the great screened in porch, which was also perfect for afternoon naps. The seclusion of the home makes you feel that you are away from it all. We were there for 12 days in mid-August. Most days we had the entire beach to ourselves, and there was always a breeze. We even had sunset picnics on the beach. Alligator Point combines alluring, unspoiled beaches with forests. A perfect place for a family vacation if you want a break from everything! The owners were extremely accommodating and nice. We will be back.

Janine! WOW! I have to begin by thanking you for your friendliness and patience, I know I had alot of questions. This was our first family vacation since the twins were born and they are now 3! We wanted it to be special, not just for them but for everyone of us. We fell in love with your house the minute we walked in. and the beach and surroundings are perfect. We loved how far everything and everyone A Shore Thing is. It gave us the opportunity to spend serious quality time with our children... We ate together, cooked together, played and fished and most importantly, laughed and created wonderful memories that we will never forget. Thank-you again!!

This was our first trip 2 Alligator Point. We throughly enjoyed the peace and quiet here. We were ready to be away from all the "hussle and bussle". Shore Thing is very nice. We felt very at home here. The kids loved the loft. Our favorite part other than the beach and ocean was the fabulous front porch. Thanks for being so accomodating and friendly Mrs. Janine. We hope to be back! Laura Grace says: "We love your house"

Enjoyed the house. Like living in the trees. A perfect spot to reconnect with family. A few trout were caught right near the walkway. The rainy week was not a problem. It was time to take a break from the tech world, do board games and catch up on years of conversation.

We loved A Shore Thing. It was as nice as the pictures. It's a great place, very updated, very clean and comfortable and tastefully decorated for the shore. We were impressed with the high-quality linens and towels. We loved sitting/eating out on the screened-in porch. There was everything we needed in the kitchen to cook/grill a few meals. There is a shower downstairs where you can wash off the sand before going upstairs. There is a locked storage area downstairs to keep all the beach stuff. This is the place to come to relax and get away from the hectic life. It's quiet and private. There's not much traffic on the street and it's an easy walk to the beach. We loved the quiet beach -- and so did the little grandkids. Wakulla Springs park is a short drive away and the boat ride down the river is worth it -- lots of wildlife -- alligators, birds, fish, etc. Also, Bald Point State Park is nearby for nature walks and birdwatching. We'll definitely keep this one in our file for future vacations and will recommend it.

My family just returned from "A Shore Thing." We could not have been more impressed with the accomidations. The homeowners were more than gracious. The home had everything we needed for a great weekend. Our weekend consisted of people from ages 60 to 6 and everyone had a great time. We spent all day at the beach which was a very short walk from the house. The sand on the beach was amazingly clean and soft. We were at the beach over Memorial Day Weekend and felt isolated. This beach is great for someone wanting to get away from the crowds. The house itself was of resort quality. From the plush linens to the tastefully decorated interior. Every detail about this house was obviously well thought out. We spent evenings on the screened in porch with the cool breeze blowing through. The mornings were just as peacful with no traffic noise. The house was supplied with everything including books, games and movies. We could not have found a more relaxing place to get away to. Thank you for sharing your home.

A Shore Thing is an amazing beach home. The house is absolutely gorgeous, exceptionally clean and extremely comfortable. The home is surrounded by trees and very private, yet only a few steps and you are on the beach. The furnishings are beautiful yet functional and comfortable. Our favorite spot was the front porch, where you can feel the breeze from the gulf and hear the sounds of the surf. Alligator Point itself is very quiet – no high rise condos or hotels – mostly just private homes. There are a few local seafood restaurants within a short drive, as well as beautiful Wakulla Springs State Park. Janine was wonderful, and went out of her way to make our stay special. If you are looking for a quiet, luxurious beach get-a-way, this is it!

The house is beautiful, even better than the pictures; attention to detail is evident in every room. It is also spotlessly clean and well organized. The front porch is one of the most peaceful and relaxing places one will ever find. We have stayed in this home twice because we have daughters at FSU. If you don't mind the drive, (about an hour south campus), it is a great alternative to staying in a hotel in Tallahassee. We feel like we are in the home of a friend rather than a rental property, top of the line linens and amenities abound. The owner, Janine, could not be more gracious or helpful. There is a small market close by for supplies and a bigger one in Carabelle about a 30 minute drive. We bring in most of the food supplies that we need with us. Angelo's is a restaurant close. You'll pay $4-$5 for a dozen of the best oysters you'll ever eat. Appalacicola is about an hour away via a beautiful drive, you'll feel like you've stepped back in time. When you're there check out a rustic restaurant called, Up the Creek, at the far end of Water Street. Best sweet potato fries and conch cakes with mango salsa. A Shore Thing is the place to go to escape the rat race, rediscover empty gulf beaches where nature and beautiful sunsets abound and reconnect with family.
