A cozy retreat

We just returned from 3 nights at Wind Cradle and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Everything was just as described in the description and as seen in the pictures posted here. We were welcomed very warmly by our hosts (and the dog!) and felt very much at home. The cabin was very cozy, clean, and well situated. We spent a lot of time on the beach and liked that they had adirondack chairs. Our perfect evening "in" was Sven and Ole's pizza, beer and late night star and moon gazing. We'd also recommend a midnight sauna and skinny dip, especially when the moon is shining bright! Overall, highly recommended!
Owner response:Thank you Kari. We look forward to welcoming you back! Shalom
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, adventure seekers, age 55+.

My wife and I just spent the most relaxing winter vacation we’ve ever experienced in Mary Ellen and Suzanne’s guest house. We left feeling completely rejuvenated, which, I believe, is the whole point for taking time off, unless you’re doing it for a wedding or funeral. If taking long walks on the beach and in the woods with camera in hand appeals to you, stay here. If your idea of fun is sitting in a comfortable chair, reading your favorite author, this is for you. If you want a hotel room, fully-equipped house or a bed-and-breakfast, though, you’ll need to go elsewhere. You’ll also pay at least twice as much. The cabin has excellent lighting and is very well set up for reading or writing. Bookshelves are used as walls between the main living area and the bedroom – a very nice touch. Microwave, hot and cold water supply, coffee pot, dorm fridge, and toaster are all located together next to shelves full of towels, plates, and utensils. The bathroom has a composting toilet and separate water supply for the sink. Overall, the entire space is decorated very well. A picture window gazes onto Lake Superior. Your hosts are genuinely friendly and always helpful. If you have dishes (we heated up pre-made meals in a crock pot we brought along) they will wash them for you. They are also very happy to recommend any number of area restaurants if you are interested in eating out. Access to Lake Superior is across the highway; a hiking trail enters the forest directly behind the house. State parks and waysides are nearby, as is the city of Grand Marais. Wildlife is abundant. After your hike, take a shower or Jacuzzi next door. Back in the cabin, tune into WTIP, the local independent radio station, news, weather and good music. Take a nap on the sofa or fall asleep reading a book next to the fire. That’s what we did, and we’re ready to go back for more.
