This is the private residence of a food and wine writer, available for short-term rentals part of the year while I am traveling on assignment. It's a 1 bedroom apartment in a luxury condo association, located in one of Portland's nicest historic districts, just off Longfellow Square (the so-called West End).
It's a short walk to the Western Promenade, where there are plein air summer concerts and year round views of the ocean. It's also walking distance to Portland's Old Port, where there are excellent restaurants, shops, antique stores, and boutiques. Portland has recently been recognized by Forbes Magazine as the most livable small city in America, and its vibrant dining culture, one of the best on the East Coast, is regularly lauded in The New York Times. It is a favorite cruise ship destination in the summer months. This exclusive rental is also within walking distance of the hospitals.
The apartment itself has a gourmet kitchen, with all the amenities, and the living space combines modernist furniture with eighteenth- and nineteenth-century antiques. There is a roomy bedroom, with a double bed, and there is a small twin sized bed, suitable for a child or third guest, tucked away for use as needed. The rooftop deck is private, and you can wake up to the sound of the sea birds and have your morning coffee enjoying the ocean breezes. The rooftop deck and the luxury furnishings mean that this is not an ideal place for unattended small children. There are seasonal views of the Back Cove in the distance, and in the summer months the trees provide a wonderful sense of privacy. The entire apartment is light and sunny, and there's a claw foot tub in the bathroom. Everything about the apartment is pristine and relaxing. Perfect for a romantic weekend or a grown-up getaway.

The Unique Benefits of this Condo
Located in a historic district of downtown Portland, the condo is easily accessible by Amtrak train or an international airport. Portland is located approximately 100 miles (160 km) from Boston, and it is a charming coastal seaport. Several excellent beaches are within a 10-20 minute drive, and the Portland harbor is within walking distance. There are a number of smaller golf courses in the area, some excellent spas locally, and excellent dining in the area. There is skiing (Sunday River) within 60 miles of Portland, and there is excellent ocean front hiking within 30 minutes. Shopping and Maine's landmark L.L. Bean stores are located in Freeport, just 20 minutes north.
