The Royall Lyme, located in historic Dunmore Town, was built in 1820 as the British Consulate, and later became the Royall Lyme Cologne factory. Situated on one of the largest in-town lots facing the bay, it offers a tremendous amount of privacy for being right in the middle of the island action. A beautifully landscaped garden welcomes guests through a quaint picket gate from Bay Street. The middle yard houses a crystal clear fully tiled pool and sitting areas that rival the finest hotels on the island. Comfortably heated in the cooler months and chilled during the hotter months.
The veranda and adjacent terrace offer areas for entertaining, dining and relaxing. One of the great benefits of the in-town location, yet set back from Bay Street, is the opportunity to see the activity in the harbour and on the government dock. The outdoor spaces of the Royall Lyme are, in fact, the best living room in the Bahamas.
Another highlight of the Royall Lyme is the Widow's Walk on top of the house. A great place to sit and read a book or watch the island from a bird's eye view. Great place to enjoy the awakening of the island in the morning and a great place to see the spectacular sunsets as the day draws to an end...And, many a dark night have been spent up there counting the shooting stars and admiring the constellations, a treat that many don't get because of the city lights.
The interior of the house is meticulously decorated with traditional island colors and comforts. The living areas and the bedrooms have a very homey feel, and yet you will find that, weather permitting, you will live on the covered veranda and many other outdoor areas that are on the property. The main house hosts 2 bedrooms: 1st floor twin bedroom and bath; and 2nd floor king bedroom and bath. Additional privacy is offered by the private breezeway entry to the queen guest suite and the main master king suite.
Only a short walk across the island to the famous pink sand beaches, restaurants and shops are short walks down the street, and when you wander for the day or just a few hours, you will always feel a sense of peace as you return home to the Royall Lyme!!!
The Royall Lyme is truly a "home away from home"...one that you will want to return to, year after year!!!

Harbour Island and the Royall Lyme, in particular offer guests a special experience on an island unlike any other in the Bahamas. The rich history on the Island has added to its beauty. The size of the Island is such that one can walk everywhere. The 3 mile long pink beach is one of the many highlights on the island. Some of the best fishing and diving is available on the island.

We have loved Harbour Island since the first trip with my parents in 1982. Shortly thereafter, our family purchased the Royall Lyme Cottage and proceeded to renovate and make additions. When my husband and I became engaged in 1991, we chose Harbour Island for our wedding and festivities that lasted a week! We love to share our home with friends and family and particularly enjoy Christmas and New Year's on the Island; a tradition that we started many years ago.

This home is the most amazing home!! We have rented this same house for years. The island is outstanding and the house is even better!! It has an incredible view of the sunset and right in the middle of town. i just happened to be on VRBO and saw that someone was "unhapppy" with the Royall Lyme! I can't imagine anyone not loving this setting. Unhappy must have had a "bad day" there is nothing bad about this home!! !!!!! I can not say enough good things about the Royall Lime!!!!!!!! It is definitely one of Harbour Islands finest !!!! It is the bestt!! Looking forward to our next visit!

House was not ready, major deferred maintenance. broken water pipes, broken AC, towelsleft in washer and dryer. pool needed maintenance. paid for a full week - left after 2 nights it was that bad
Owner response:This review is totally unfair. We pride ourselves in offering guests a wonderful vacation experience. While implied, this party did not rent the home from us through VRBO but acquired our home in a school fundraiser where we donated the use of our home for a week. The house was open and ready for the arrival, pool was clean, A/C was on minus one window unit in the kitchen that was waiting on a part to arrive from the States. The fact is...there were towels inadvertently left in the washing machine... so I guess they had a good reason to be totally disappointed in our home!!! And, one of the shower heads had a slight drip to it. Please read the other reviews for a more accurate view of our property.

What a wonderful vacation we had in Harbour Island. The Royall Lyme was everything we expected and more. When not exploring the island we lived outside by the pool or in the outdoor living area. The home is beautifully decorated, but cozy and comfortable. It's located in the heart of town and a short distance from the beautiful pink sand beach. The owner was extremely helpful in providing great suggestions on what to do and where to eat. We hope to return again and again to HI and to the Royall Lyme.

We are in the last day of our visit here - what an exceptional place to stay! This is my families 4th combined trip to HI, staying on yacht, at Coral Sands, and now, the Royall Lyme. And there is no comparison when putting overall value to visiting Harbour Island. The sleeping areas were private and most comfortable. The living area(s) were casual and cocktail friendly. And the pool and patio area add the perfect finishing touch. The house is clean and very well maintained. The housekeeper was very helpful but never overbearing- in fact she was in and out with remarkable efficiency. The walk/golf cart accessibility from this property is one of its strongest assets. Not only WOULD we stay here again, but we WILL stay here again. We have several friends who hope to gain info about their future vacations and this will certainly become 1 of their target destinations. In summary, save your money (you will need plenty of it- its very expensive (the Island)- but worth it), and make certain you can come for the whole week, maybe 2 if you can do it. Pre-trip info/details from the owner was most valuable and helpful in our planning for travel and stay here. Whether traveling with family (this trip was my family of 5 adults) or several couples- this house is set up perfectly. Hope those of you who read this review and consider the Royall Lyme house don't compete for my future reservation time, because you will book it!

I have just returned from Harbour Island and was able to preview this property for a future visit. Unfortunately, we already had reservations at another home as Royall Lyme was not listed at our time of booking. I have been coming to HI for 20+ years and the Royall Lyme is considered one of the premier homes. While not on the beach, those of us returning visitors know that this is a preferred location with the beach just a short 7 minute walk or 2 minute golf cart ride which is the favored mode of transportation. The home sits back on the property with the feeling of being on your own private oasis complete with pool and several options for lounging both in the sun and out. The TV viewing area is even set up outside! The home itself has all the character of a true island home that one can call their own while there. The housekeeper is a delight which is a huge plus. We hope to experience a full stay on our return!!!!
