Crystalwood is an ideal spot for basing an in-depth exploration of the “best 30 miles in Oregon” and beyond. We are located just outside Crater Lake National Park, only 18 miles from the south entrance (open year-round).
BOOKING SEASON SPECIAL now available for all new 2013 stays confirmed during February. Book now and SAVE BIG!
Crystalwood Lodge’s focus is on hosting groups, events, workshops, seminars, family reunions, weddings – any group needing a private space in a unique setting. In 2012 we were again honored to host 2 weddings, a multitude of family reunions, milestone birthday celebrations, bikers participating in the Crater Lake Century Bike Ride, our annual Sierra Club national trip for active women over 50, dog sledding retreats, scrapbooking weekends, church get-togethers....just to name a few!
Well-behaved pets are welcome throughout the Lodge and grounds (except for the kitchen and dining room, per health dept. regulations).
We live in the 'tropics of winter sports' so temperate and balmy winters, and warm but not scorching summers. Winter highs are in the 30s, summer in the 80s.
Fully Outfitted Commercial Kitchen: Crystalwood Lodge makes our fully outfitted commercial kitchen available to guests, and that has been a huge hit with every group stay. This allows you to come and go freely as you can eat whenever you prefer using the kitchen to prepare your own meals.
The commercial kitchen includes a 6-burner propane stove, 2 large ovens, an outdoor propane grill, 3 microwaves, a guest freezer (with chilled beer mugs), a HUGE walk-in cooler for refrigerated food storage, a commercial coffee/tea station, and a dry food storage area. The well-stocked dish pantry includes serviceware for approx. 30, linens and placemats for the dining room, cutting boards, crock pot, toaster, mixer, and a wide variety of stock pots, baking dishes, skillets, mixing bowls. A number of dry spices are available for guest use.
Food storage areas, dish pantry, food prep tools – everything is here to satisfy your inner gourmet cook – all you bring is the food! There are several local food options if you don’t feel like cooking.
Additional Lodge Amenities: Direct water access for canoeing, kayaking, fishing and wildlife viewing is available just outside the front door of the Lodge. We have 2 rowboats and 2 canoes available for guest rental, which include oars, paddles and life jackets.
We also have 4 open air horse pens for those who would like to bring their horses and enjoy the many miles of trail riding in our immediate area.
Dog crates are available for guest rooms, and a chest full of dog sheets is available to cover the bed comforters or furniture for those guests who like to have their dogs close (i.e. can't keep them off the bed, like some of mine)!
Doggie doo bags are available and trash cans are strategically placed in the parking area and next to the lawn/garden areas for easy pick-up and clean up of your pets.
We have 3 ponds on the property for canine swimming, and approx. 3-4 miles of trails on the property for dog walking, birding, wildflower and wildlife viewing and just getting away from it all.
Even More Lodge Amenities & Info: Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the Lodge guest rooms and guest common areas, including the wrap-around deck and porches.
Inside recreation options include board games, jigsaw puzzles, cards, books, magazines, video library, spotting scope and binoculars.
We have a cozy glass-fronted wood stove in the ground floor Great Room, ready for guest use while you area enjoying the large common area.
A dryer is available for guest use, and I am happy to do laundry on behalf of my guests for a nominal charge.
Guest rooms all include fans and baseboard heaters, and in the summertime most guest rooms have window air conditioners installed. We have 3 water heaters supplying the kitchen and guest rooms, so plenty of hot water.
The lodge is on the original shallow water well, and has the best water you will EVER taste. Enjoy!

Short visit but very enjoyable. Crater lake was snowed in but were still able to drive to the lodge: very cold and snowing at times. Enjoyed the Rogue river and the lakes around Crater lake. We were the only ones at the lodge for 2 days and enjoyed the peace and quiet!Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, tourists without a car, sightseeing.
Owner response: I was so grateful to be able to host this lovely couple. I am working a seasonal job as an employee trainer at Crater Lake, so it was extra delightful to be able to get some direct guest feedback on their experiences there. These folks were most generous in sharing their observations with me. We had a delightful time also talking about the area, Crystalwood Lodge, my sled dog team, my Iditarod experiences and so forth. These folks are from Texas, and when they departed to go home, they took the cool weather with them...immediately after they left, we went into a hot (for us) spell of temps in the mid-upper 80s. Ah, life in the mountains in springtime -- never a dull moment!

We had a wonderful visit to the Crater Lake area made even more enjoyable by Liz's hospitality. We loved meeting and petting the sled dogs, appreciated Liz's care of our feisty corgi while we enjoyed Crater Lake, and reveled in the canoeing and just hanging out at the lodge. The room (McGrath) was plenty big enough for 2 adults, 2 teenagers and a dog. The room and the lodge were clean, the beds comfy and the views spectacular. We came in much later than we had planned our first night and we were graciously met by Liz. She was so hospitable and had a lot of good tips on where to go and what to see. We all had fun cooking in the kitchen, watching the sunrise with a steaming cup of coffee and enjoying the sunset with a glass of wine in the screened porch. 4 days flew by.Recommended for: Pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We had a good feeling about Liz and the place right from the moment I sent my inquiry to the VRBO listing. And we were pleased to have our expectations exceeded. It is just the place for unwinding from a hectic city life and letting your lungs rejuvenate with fresh air and eyes soak in all the beauty whichever direction you see. We were also inspired by Liz's passion for her dogs and the wonderful stories about her Iditarod race and more. She is very prompt with any help you may need. And what made our trip even more memorable was that we forgot some of our daughter's bags back in the lodge, and Liz mailed them over (even though it is such an arduous task to send someone's luggage over by mail especially when you are living in a place like Winema National Forest) within two days; it arrived within a couple of days too. We higly recommend this place for vacation and we are positively going back.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway.

Facility was very comfortable & clean. Location was ideal for the things we wanted to do. The dogs were a fascinating story & exposure. The hostess was very liberal with her time. We have recommended to friends already.Owner response: Thanks Walt! It was wonderful and fun to host your family and help you with the graduation celebration. I know you folks enjoyed Crater Lake too, magificent with the extra-late snow still on the ground up there. Even though the environment here in the mountains changes year-round with something new to offer and enjoy, I think June is my favorite summer month with all the incredible birding, canoeing, hiking and fishing and before the heat later on in the summer. Can you tell I'm an Iditarod musher because I think mid-80s is hot? ;-) I'm glad your family had a great time, and best wishes to you all from the sled dogs and I for 2012 and beyond! Cheers -- Liz

This was a great vacation experience. We brought our small dog, and they had a crate for him to stay in in our room, and he was allowed all over the property and in the house except the kitchen and dining room. Liz was wonderful, and since we were the only guests for the whole weekend (and we had marked "special occasion" as our reason for visiting), she upgraded our room for free! The grounds are beautiful, the house is beautiful, couldn't ask for a better place. And watch for Brick, he's the unofficial greeter and a great dog!Recommended for: Families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, adventure seekers.

We visited for our days with four other families (20 people in all) & had a wonderful stay! The property was divine--birds, clear night sky & lots of stars, canoe trips down the river, the Iditarod dogs, great deck with lovely view...The kids could run around in their enormous "back yard.!" The huge kitchen made group meal prep easy. Liz was a wonderful host, very helpful and engaged, and shared her Iditarod story to a rapt young audience. The drive to the ranch was spectacular, and the proximity to Crater Lake can't be beat! We'll definitely return!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

My family rented the entire Crystalwood Lodge for a Labor-day weekend reunion, and it was the most memorable and relaxing vacation we've ever had! The lodge met all our needs - we used all 7 bedrooms and baths for 15 people. The rooms are charming - each named for a stop on the Iditarod Trail (the owner and her team of dogs participated and finished in the Iditarod in 2008). The rooms were clean and well appointed. The kitchen was magnificent for cooking all our meals - large, well equipped and stocked (even spices for guest use!) and with a huge walk-in cooler for all our food. Coffee was provided as well. The grounds are beautiful, and there were canoes available for a reasonable fee to go out onto the marshlands and lake. We enjoyed a float trip, and were treated to a family of raccoons fishing along the water's edge. Perhaps the greatest treat was watching the owner, Liz, and her team of sled dogs as they exercised in the mornings. She hooked the team up in their harnesses for a run, pulling Liz on her ATV, and off they went, tails wagging and with the excited yipping of 18 enthused sled dogs. We were given an interesting account of their Iditarod race and our grandkids LOVED petting the dogs. Crystawood Lodge is pet-friendly and there are nice touches for our four-legged friends (pet bathing area, doggy biscuits, clean towels, etc.). We did not bring our dog but next time we will. The lodge is very clean and there is no doggy smell or shedding hair to contend with. However, I would caution anyone with a true dog allergy that this might be a problem for you. Crystalwood Lodge is very close to Crater Lake, but we didn't go because we are locals and go there frequently. Instead, we hiked around the area and took a two mile hike up to Puck Lake. There are at least 5 miles of hiking trails right around the lodge itself. Our reunion was such a hit that we are determined to go back every year with the whole family. Liz made us feel so welcomed, and I can't say enough about her and her "fantabulous" lodge.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

The owner Liz, was very gracious and generous with her time and sharing her dog experience! Our dog was well looked after when we spent the day at Crater Lake. I would love to visit again some time.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

Hi Liz, Just a note of thanks & appreciation for helping to make our "sister week" such a delightful time! We all had a memorable stay -- your lodge is a gem in the woods. Thank you for sharing it with us. And, thank you for your friendliness and friendship. You gave us a warm welcome & warm send-off, and much warmth in-between! Thanks again! Woof! About the owner: I am a dog lover, thus my property is pet welcoming. My dogs and I have enjoyed agility, fly ball, obedience, skijoring, and dog sledding. I devoted 10 years to my dream of training my own sled dog team and completed the Iditarod Sled Dog Race in 2008 to celebrate my 50th birthday. I am glad to share stories with guests!

This area has incredible diverse year-round recreation opportunities, and Crystalwood Lodge is in the heart of it all.
