It was our good fortune to rent this property for the month of November 2011. What a wonderful place from which to explore and enjoy Chania and, indeed, the island of Crete. Our first experience was with the delightful Andreas and Alexandra who manage this modern well-equipped apartment. This efficient and professional duo helped us get oriented, handled car rentals, answered a thousand questions patiently, provided sight seeing tips and more. The apartment is as described: charming, clean, modern, private with a million dollar view of the Old Venetian Harbour. Special and useful touches include heated towel bars and lots of travel books on Greece. Plus, we cannot forget Humphrey the Cat who greeted us almost daily on our window sill. Memorable restaurants in Chania included Akrogiali seafood in Nea Chora, Chrisostomos Tavern (open only in off-season) near the sailing club (both within walking distance) and Tamam, around the corner from the apartment. Other fun learning activities were Cooking with Koula and wine sampling at Dourakis Winery, both excursions arranged by the office. We highly recommend this property and if possible, would go back in a heartbeat. The people of Crete are warm and wonderful, the food is delicious, the raki takes you to another dimension and the spirited life around the Old Town are only a few reasons to lure us back again.

We are just back from two weeks in Greece, and we started with 5 days in Chania in this lovely apartment with the stunning view. Andreas could not have been more helpful, from giving directions to following up on whether the Samaria Gorge was still open (it was!), to arranging for a car for us to rent. to sending us to the moveable market. Although the apartment is right on the harbor, and therefore, right in the tourist area, it is still private, and very quiet (though I note we were there in late October, so perhaps not a good measure of how noisy it would be in the high season). The pictures and the description from the website were quite accurate, except that they cannot convey the loveliness of the view. We sat at our table with a glass of wine, watching the glass bottom boats come and go, and watching evening come down over the lighthouse, and we wished to be nowhere else. We walked and walked, visited monasteries built into cliffs, hiked the gorge, ate some marvelous meals, both in and out of the apartment (and we deeply appreciated that there was a collection of spices, some olive oil, coffee, and even capers -- the little things you need, but don't want to buy to cook one or two meals)! When (not if) we return to Chania, we will certainly stay in this lovely and restful apartment, and we would recommend it to anyone.

This property was very clean and well maintained. It is updated with all modern appliances and updated bathroom. It is very close to shopping, restaurants and sights. The windows give you an excellent view of the harbor. It was wonderful to see the sun rise over the harbor and the twinkling lights at night. Andreas was very helpful from the first time I emailed him about the appartment. When we arrived, he interrupted his dinner to take us to the appartment and show us around and share information about local attractions. And during our stay, he was always available by phone and in person when needed. My husband, son and I had a great time during our stay. We wish we could have stayed longer. Crete is a beautiful place with warm and friendly people. We hope to return again some day to Crete and the appartment.
Owner response:Thank you very much for the great review Suman. It was very nice to meet you all. I hope to see you again in the near future. Don't forget repeat guests get a great discount!

The harbour-front apartment was spotless and provided a perfect getaway for our family, which included our 21-year old daughter. The view from the front bedroom was gorgeous, 2-bathrooms was very convenient, and the living/dining area was a terrific place for light breakfast / evening snack. Andreas was a terrific host, organizing transportation to/from the airport as well as helping us schedule a one-day trip to Knossos. His restaurant recommendations were spot-on, and we had a number of delicious meals.

This place was fantastic, top to bottom. Incredible view, very quiet, very tastefully decorated, and all the refinements, including internet and a beautiful kitchen. Cretan Life was also especially helpful getting us in there quickly and set up with everything right away. They answered all of our questions very patiently, including the same ones twice and three times because, well, we were in vacation mode and forgetful. And if you needed anything, they were a phone call away or a short walk through a beautiful Venetian port town. Would do it again for sure.
Owner response:I will see you again next year for sure Yakos! Thank you very much for the nice review.

Of all the places I have rented through VRBO this was the best so far. The apartment was beautiful and even nicer than the photos in the listing. The rooms are tastefully designed and everything worked well including the internet, TV and phone (which can be a challenge when traveling.) The location is wonderful and the view of the harbor is just amazing. And I can't say enough great things about Andreas and Alexandra; they helped me with all my planning prior to arriving and gave me a wonderful orientation of Chania when I arrived. I was traveling alone from the United States and they made my trip really easy; arranging for a rental car, advising me on restaurants and things to do in the city. And they made me feel like I had friends in the city that I could contact whenever I needed help. I enjoyed the accommodations and the location so much that I plan to return in the future with my family.

We ended our 3 week trip to Italy and Greece by staying at this wonderful apartment in Chania. The location was ideal, located on a pedestrian only street with many restaurants and shops within a very short distance of the apartment. The apartment was perfect for us with 2 separate bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, and spacious common areas. Andreas was absolutely wonderful to work with. He set up our trip to the Samara Gorge, arranged our taxi to the airport and made our stay in Chania exceptional. Our only regret is that we could not have stayed longer.
Owner response:Hi Gail, Thank you very much for the kind words. It was a shame that you could not stay longer indeed. We hope to see you again in Chania in the not-too-distant future. Andreas

We recently stayed in this amazing apartment and couldn't say enough good things about both the property and the property manager, Andreas. In an ideal location with a breathtaking view, its hard to get anything better than this apartment. The pick up at the airport by Andreas, welcome items (coffee and creamer for the following morning especially!!) and Andreas' help with planning out of town outings was priceless. Settled in a niche of the old harbor, pretty much everything was within easy walking distance. We did have a rental car but had no troubles finding street parking (about a 10 minute walk away). Don't miss Tamams (literally right around the corner) or "The Meatery" (as its known by the locals). If we were coming back to Chania, this is where we would stay, without question!!
Owner response:Thank you very much for a great review Carolyn! This is fantastic! We would love to have you all back to Crete soon. My regards to the rest of the family.

I was a fortunate Grandmother indeed to travel with my daughter, her husband and their 2 year old son to Chania! The walk through the streets to the place and the arches inside give a feel of old Crete. Through the large window, we loved watching the light change throughout the day-fair or stormy weather; We also enjoyed a lovely view of the Chania Harbor with it's old lighthouse, wave-touched walkways and lively night scene. We could easily walk to harbor, restaurants and Old Town, where many historical structures and retail businesses were located. The listing was very clean and pleasant; the kitchen was up-to-date and contained ample dishes, appliances, soap, a supply of condiments, and linens. We were provided maid service mid-stay and fresh towels as needed. There is privacy for the main bedroom as it is separated from the 2nd bedroom by the living room and kitchen. Andreas was a huge help! He had an office nearby and was able to provide useful information about the region. He arranged for a taxi to and from the airport(recommended!), a rental car for our 4 days of travel, and he met us at our location when our plane arrived late in order to help us move our luggage to the listing (few cars can park on the "2 donkey"-wide streets in Old Town). For anyone with disabilities, you should know that there are stairs up to this listing and stairs to the 2nd bedroom and there is walking involved in order to access the taxis or rental cars. I believe this is true in most if not all of Old Town. However, walking to the Public Market and the nearby municipal park with its peacocks, kri-kri and great playground is interesting and easily handled by most visitors. It was great to feel a resident of Chania for our stay!

We spent 2 weeks in this apartment and had fun exploring western Crete, both mountain villages and fabulous beaches. We never tired of the beautiful view from the apartment windows, watching the sun rise over the old harbor and then seeing the lights twinkle in the evening. Thanks, Andreas, for a wonderful experience!

Living in Vista Del Porto is a dream life. As an artist the constantly changing lightscape from the entire width of the apartment in the lounge and Bedroom makes one feel one is floating in the sky above the water itself. A step outside and the port walks ensure good health and provide many a great vista for the tai chi start to an artists day. Breakfast on the Terrassa taverna rooftop almost next door prepares me for the online artist and sound researcher management component of my day with excellent wireless connections throughout. The ambience of the new but ancient cave-like apartment is always lovely to come back to after rehearsals and library input. Cooking is a delight in the state of the art kitchen where we have produced Arthur's magic apple pie and my Spanish tortillas and the local fava and fish dishes. If too tired to cook, one can step out to numerous wonderful tavernas but the marvellous Tamam is just across the street. We both agree we have never slept in a more comfortable bed and waking up with the view to the new day is an exceptional treat without even getting out of bed. Another thing I love is that I can still see the sea in the shower in the rear bathroom of the apartment through the glass door. When we have guests privacy is assured due to the clever separation of the bedrooms and bathrooms at opposite ends of the apartment. The turkish lit alcove reminds us of the Ottomon origins of the place but the Venetian is still present and re-stored. The laundry down the stairs is under a Venetian arch with Latin inscription. Its as tho we are loving in many past centuries at once, with all the comforts of the modern world, a step from the town and the beach. Who could ask for more? Even the cat Humphrey comes to visit at the window each morning or whenever I am practicing my tarhu he seems to magically appear. All visitors are so impressed with the style and panache of this apartment as we are. Everything is thoughtfully and beautifully prepared and the management are attentive, considerate and bend over backards to make sure everything is of first class standard. I completely recommend this company for its friendliness and reliability in every respect. We feel at home here and do not want to leave when our 5 months are up. We will be back for sure. Thank you Cretan Life for helping our dreams to come true. Ros Bandt International sound artist from Australia.

My Mom and I loved your apartment!!! It was a real luxury to have 2 bedrooms (and 2 bathrooms!!) on the waterfront. The views are wonderful and you have been exceptionally attentive. We ate way too much, saw lots of beautiful scenery and explored the city. We also had problems with WiFi, but easily remedied that with an ethernet cable. Had fun exploring the area--loved the coastal drive to Elafonisi! I will definitely look you up when I return to Hania! Thanks again! Amy and Carolyn
Owner response:Hi Amy and Carolyn, Thank you very much for your very kind words. We'd love to see you again whenever you return to Chania. We will look into the wi-fi problem now that we have some availability for a week. Looking forward to seeing you soon. Alexandra and Andreas. Quite a bit of time after your reply, I jsut wanted to say that the wi-fi issue has been sorted now, and it is working fine with allcomputers including Mac, and with IPhones! Hope to see you again.

We stayed here for a week in October 2010 and were absolutely delighted with the apartment, which was exactly as described, though I think the photos didn't do justice to the amazing views. The apartment was spotlessly clean & maintained to the highest standard. Moreover, Andreas & his staff were extraordinarily helpful in answering all our questions, even arranging an excellent driver when we wanted to do a day's touring of regional Crete. We have recommended most highly this accommodation to friends. While enjoying the delightful harbour town of Chania, which has innumerable attractions even apart from the stunning harbour, we were bowled over by the amazing restaurants including Tamam, Ela & Paradosiako; the latter having truly wonderful fish dishes at very cheap prices. Th whole experience was wonderful in all respects.
Owner response:Thank you very much for the review Peter and Jenny. It was a pleasure to meet you both, and I honestly hope you come back in the near future. I am also glad that you enjoyed your dayout with George. There is a lot more to see around Chania, so we will make sure that the next time you come over, George will take you to other places as well. Congratulations to new-born grandchild, and I am looking forward to seeing you again. Andreas.

We had an extremely enjoyable stay at the apartment. It was very comfortable and well maintained with the maid coming in twice during our stay to clean the apartment. The view from the large windows is exceptional, one that you can never tire of.We had one problem with the toilet cistern but when we told Alexandra she had it sorted before our return. Its location is excellent and the extremely efficient glazing prevented any noise disturbance in spite of the proximity of restaurants. There is a large choice of restaurants, we avoided those on the waterfront, (Alexandra's recommendation), they can be very annoying trying to persuade you to eat at their premises. Our favourite meal was at The Well of the Turk, expensive though! Meal portions seem very large and we shared starters and main courses at most restaurants. Lots of things to see and do, especialy people watching. Both Andreas and Alexandra were extremely helpful both before and during our visit.
Owner response:Thank you so much guys for the very kind words. It was a pleasure to have you over to Crete, and staying in our apartment. We hope to see you again soon. Oh, and thanks for the email with all info. Alexandra and Andreas

Four of us had a wonderful visit to Chania and Andreas was very helpful when we needed help with phone calls back home. Everything you need is close by, and there is a lot to explore. We had problems connecting to wireless in the apartment, but found no problems at the Starbucks a short walk away. Car rental is also very easy and Andreas facilitated. All worked out well.

The Chania harbor front apartment was fantastic. It has a wonderful view of the harbor. It is right in the middle of everything but very quiet inside. I was concerned that because smoking was allowed that the place might smell of smoke but it did not at all. Everything was fresh and clean. Also, Andreas was very helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Chania was a great place to visit. The people were friendly and the food was delicious.

I'm going to make this easy for myself (and readers) and just agree with everything already said. The location can't be beat, the sunrises seen from the windows are out of this world, and Andreas couldn't have been more helpful. The photos don't quite do the flat/view justice. The car Andreas helped us rent was perfect, too. Our family (parents and two young adult "kids") had a great time in Crete -- and hope to repeat this vacation in a not too distant future. P.S. Tamam was the family's absolute favorite.
Owner response:Hi guys, It was great to have you in the apartment as well. Thanks for the very kind words. I will see what I can do with the photos. Andreas

My husband, our two daughters and I stayed in this wonderful apartment in Chania in August, 2010. Andreas and his staff were so helpful, friendly and professional. The apartment is beautiful--new and very clean--and has a definite Venetian flavor that makes you feel as though you are part of history. We spoke to some other travelers who had had a hard time finding the Real Greece--not us--found it instantly with the great location and help. The town is historic and manageable--you might prefer not to have a car at all if you fly into Chania airport. You are in the heart of things in the apartment near great restaurants and shopping--pushing past tourists to get to your place next to the Venetian Ranieri Gate dating from the 17th cent. Andreas and his people can help with excursions, finding supermarkets, etc. They offered to come with us to city hall to help us to pay a parking ticket--town is so friendly and manageable that we did it ourselves although we were glad for the kind offer. Our girls would walk together to get gelato in town by themselves--Chania is crowded during tourist season but feels very safe during the daytime. View from the apartment over the Chania harbor is fabulous. There is a small beach that mostly only locals frequent but it is walking-distance and cool by the sea. We ate out most nights but apartment is equipped for family cooking if you want. We would go back in a minute--and will when we get the time.
Owner response:Wow. Thank you very much Nina. That is so nice of you, and what you just wrote is perfect. We hope to see you back to Crete soon.

The relaxation one seeks during vacation is a combination of beautiful surroundings mixed with excellent service, from obtaining ferry tickets, beachwear, rental cars, to recommending good restaurants. Andreas and Alexandra provided all of the above superbly. We found this blissful relaxation in this wonderful location and all the details flowed smoothly - some of our favorite dining experiences and purchases were made within walking distance, we enjoyed afternoon snacks of olives, wine and cheese while looking out on the harbor, and we slept well throughout our stay. Thank you!

My family of 4 (of whom 2 21-year-olds) stayed in this apartment for 5 days in July 2010. I can only repeat what has already been said. The apartment is well -decorated, spotless, well conceived. Everything works (air-conditioning and WIFI very much appreciated). The space has been used to its utmost to give privacy to both parents and children. The apartment is well insulated from outside noise in spite of the fact it is in the centre of everything. I even used the washing machine, which is highly appreciable if one is away for quite some time. The supermarket is within walking distance as well as a myriad restaurants, especially the famous Tamam. The view on the harbour every morning is a delight. International newspapers are available within walking distance every morning as well. Finally Andreas proved very helpful in securing a car rental for the whole of our stay in Crete and in organising our hike in the Gorge of Samaria with a very reliable agency. Our stay was therfore a 100% successful. Thank you again for everything and we will be back. Catherine
Owner response:Hi Catherine. Many thanks for your nice words. I'm really glad that all you enjoyed it and I am happy that you found my recommendations about car rental and Samaria Gorge were succesfull. We would love to see you over next year. Tamam seem to be getting a lot of positive reviews from our guests ... I'll probably ask them for a commission. The apartment was very nice and had a fantastic view from the living room over the Venetian harbor. Andreas was extremely helpful with restaurant recommendations and trip planning. We would not hesitate to rent from him again. He is also currently remodeling another unit. If it is anything like the unit we rented, it will also be very nice. We ate at several restaurants in Hania, some specializing in seafood, some not. As recommended by Andreas, the better seafood restaurants are along the eastern tip of the harbor, around the corner near the access walkway to the lighthouse. As for non-seafood restaurants, we got our best meals from The Turkish Baths restaurant, called Tamam. Our overall experience in Chania was fantastic, not at all due in any small part to our wonderful accomodations and pleasant hosts. Highly recommended.
Owner response:Thank you for the nice comments Greg. The second unit will be refurbished by the end of the year, and available for next summer. We will be happy to see you both over to Crete again. Also thanks for the very useful advice for renovations and project management.

I had the pleasure of living in this exquisitely restored historic apartment for two months this winter. I travel to Greece a lot and I suppose I am a "discriminating" traveler and, honestly, I have to say this was one of the best experiences I have had in 25 years of travel here. The location in the historic district is superb - each morning I would throw open my huge windows and be greeted by the stunning sun-kissed view of the port - seemingly so close, I could touch it. A quick walk through my pretty street brought me to tons of restaurants, cafes and fascinating boutiques. Location doesn't mean a thing however, if nothing else is right in the accommodation. That certainly wasn't the case here! The apartment is tastefully appointed with every mod con you could ever want, lots of spare linens and towels, generous hot water, plumbing that works, cozy furnishings and sparkling clean and new. All so important for a traveler. Ok, so we have location, we have comfort, we have style - again all that is meaningless if the people who manage the place aren't helpful. Again, not a problem here - from the very first morning when the lovely multi-lingual Alexandra had the patience to take me to the local supermarket for groceries to the always accommodating Andreas to help me sort out how the oven worked - the people here make the difference. They are always available and on call and worry about the quality of your stay and happiness here like my own mother. Here is an example of their over-the-top service: they knew I was going to take a short bus trip down the coast one day and before I left, they had, on their own initiative, made sure the buses were running on time and that I had the right information to get there and back. Wow. I was so very very impressed with this thoughtfulness. I'm writing this as I prepare to leave this lovely place - I am sad to go, but I am thrilled to share this discovery with you. Stay here, blend into the community, enjoy all that Chania has to offer - I know you will love this home as much as I do. I WILL be back - so take good care of "my" apartment.
Owner response:Hi Nancy, thank you for all your nice words. We have been impressed by you as a "tenant" as much as you have been impressed by us. I really hope all the future tenants to be as nice, tidy, polite and clean as you. I think you set the standards very high. We will see you next year for sure. Andreas

Some people would travel from the islands to Athens to spend the Christmas. With my wife, we did exactly the opposite. We decided to visit Crete for the first time. We booked the apartment from the internet, and thanks God is exactly how is described. It sounded too good to be true, but it is true. I am sure that I will spend Xmas time in Chania again, we even did our shopping there (unlike everybody else, who is coming to Athens), on the way to the ferry, Very convienient. Hope to come back at some time. Euxaristoume poli.

The apartment is superb and had everything we needed. The bedroom with the view over the harbor was the most wonderful room to wake up in. The kitchen was small but perfectly formed. But the real surprise was the location right in the middle of everything and we could still walk to a lovely beach.I thought it might have been a bit noisy at night but it wasn't. Once again thank you, and hope to see you in 2010. Carol (June 2009)

I have only been to Crete once, and it was certainly one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. It was definitely a great idea to visit Chania for our second wedding anniversary. Everything was at least of what I could have asked for. Fantastic city, awesome views from the apartment and as an architect I have to say that the owners have done a really good job on the renovation. Thanks for everything. I hope to see you again soon. We really enjoyed a lot our stay at the harbour front apartment. The location was excellent; right in the heart of the old town of Chania. We could basically walk to the Venetian Harbour and to all the facilities and beaches. The apartment was fully equipped and the view to the harbour was fantastic. We felt like home and we will definitely come back. Carmen and Mircea (April 2009)

I visited Crete with my husband for the first time about a month ago. I haven't been to Chania before, and I really loved the place. I was looking for a destination that will have sunny weather even in November and that was Crete. We had a fantastic three days trip and I wish I had more time to stay there. Nice house, with all the traditional stone features and the views to the port. I will definitely come back. (Ivan & Alexandra, November, 2009)
