Welcome to Tranquility - the best view in Cedar Key - our guests tell us so! Birdwatching from our balcony is sublime and easy. Walk to town - marina, park, and most restaurants are 1-4 blocks away. Come stay with us and Visit Cedar Key!
Please note that we wish to speak directly with you - the guest. If you are required to register in order to view our emails - please call us at: 706-485-7586.
Our 3rd floor**, corner condo has a VERY private balcony with fabulous view, gourmet kitchen, king and queen bedrooms, and two full baths set in a small, quiet, condo complex on a peninsula. Furnishings were chosen to impart a feeling of tranquility to complement the breathtaking views of Florida's Nature Coast. (**Please note we have no elevator!)
Tranquility is equipped for your comfort and convenience. We want you to relax and experience Cedar Key. We have free (& private!) high speed DSL, streaming movies, free long distance (US & Canada) - all on the Gulf of Mexico. Experience Florida without the mouse!(sm) (You won't be sharing your WiFi with the rest of the condos.)
Our northeast-facing balcony offers a stunning view of small mangrove islands, Wacassassa Bay and the Gulf. Enjoy sunrises year 'round and incredible summer sunsets. Breakfast on the balcony offers amazing views of birds, fishing boats, kayaks, and the ever-changing sky and sea. At high tide, we're often visited by dolphins in the small bay below the balcony.
LIVING AREA
Our living room has a vaulted ceiling, queen sleeper sofa, love seat and wicker chair for relaxing in front of the (cable) 27 inch TV/DVD and a 3 disk CD stereo. We also have a library of CDs, books, magazines, puzzles, and a game closet to delight adult and child tastes. Free music via the Internet too. The view from the living area is fabulous!
TECH AREA
We offer private WiFi and hard-wired DSL. Use our PC - but if a computer is critical – please bring your own! Our condo complex has shared WiFi, but ours is private and therefore you're NOT competing with every gamer and movie download on one line. A desk with telephone, flat screen monitor, keyboard, and a fax/printer/scanner is ready for you to plug in and go if you have to.
DINING/KITCHEN
Our dining table seats six (in chairs) comfortably. Table service for eight+, along with plenty of nice glassware (beer, water, wine, margarita, and martinis!) and serving dishes are provided to serve up your feast in style!
Our self-catering kitchen is furnished for the gourmet cook with a nearly silent stainless dishwasher and electric range with optional convection oven. We love to cook. Local, fresh Cedar Key Florida clams and other seafood will inspire even the least motivated chef! Or order in! There's several restaurants happy to deliver!
There are plenty of good quality pots and pans, baking pans along with utensils, gadgets, and measuring tools. We've stocked a set of spices and a very basic pantry. Favorite recipes are included in our guest binder and a few cookbooks are on the shelf. A coffeemaker, bean grinder, blender, bagel toaster, George Foreman grill, slow cooker, and over the stove microwave complete the kitchen. And yes, we have a tea kettle.
BEDROOMS
The master suite offers a king-size bed (plush mattress) with 2 nightstands, 2 lamps, dresser, walk-in closet and a wall-mounted flat screen TV. The master bath is spacious with an over-sized counter, tub and shower. The guest bedroom has a queen size bed, 2 nightstands, 2 lamps, dresser, closet and combo TV/DVD. The full guest bath is across the hallway.
OTHER CONVENIENCES
Full linens are provided - at least 2 sets of sheets for each bed, comforters, and many extra pillows and blankets. Luxurious bath towels for six guests are provided. Pool towels and kitchen linens are also ready and waiting!
The laundry room has a stacked condo-sized washer and dryer and basic cleaning tools. A secure fishing pole storage rack is on the balcony along with beach toys and beach chairs in the storage box. Tranquility has both central heat and AC and ceiling fans in every room.
Our Cedar Key condo complex (Old Fenimore Mill) is resort-like. There are only 6 units per building and we're on the top floor - so it's relatively quiet - you won't have dozens of people tromping past your door or bouncing over your head. No street noise either. Our private fishing dock has a freshwater fish cleaning station. The fishing captains will pick you up at the dock! (And we're happy to recommend captains to guests!)
The recently refurbished and heated swimming pool and jacuzzi are terrific for relaxing. Boat and trailer parking are available on a 'first come first serve' basis. The town beach and park are less than 1 block walk with plenty of swings and other playground equipment. Park your car in our covered parking and walk to dining, drinking, shops, and the marina. Close enough to walk, but far enough away so you're not listening to the bar bands on under your bed...
CEDAR KEY AREA
Surrounded by the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico in Florida, the Cedar Keys consist of dozens of islands or keys. About twelve of these islands are reserved as a part of the Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuge and several are designated as 'wilderness areas'. The refuge boasts some of the largest numbers of nesting birds in Florida. You will see a variety of birds year round - for more info on birds, visit our website - visit cedar key (dot) com.
Cedar Key is old Florida at its best. There are no chain stores and most 'traffic' is on foot, golf carts, or boats. The marina (1.5 blocks) has boat and kayak rentals and there are plenty of knowledgeable tour operators happy to take you on a wildlife or sunset cruise. Bicycle and golf cart rentals are also available. We recommend bringing your own kayak - we have plenty of storage room and great launching places for you!
Fishing is a favorite with redfish, speckled trout, and sea cats being the primary catch. Inshore and offshore fishing are popular - bring your boat or rent one at the marina. Be sure to bring your camera!
Cedar Key is part of Florida's Nature Coast--the wildlife is abundant, the spring break party crowd is NOT. If you are looking for sugar-sand beaches, wild nightclubs, or singles bars don't come to Cedar Key--you won't find it here. We do have a nice selection of restaurants and drinking establishments. Some places have music on weekends.
Be sure to check out our website link below - there are many more photos, a floorplan, a list of amenities, and lots of information to help you quickly get into island life. We're happy to help you plan your stay with us including providing restaurant and tour recommendations and special deals. Hope we can help you enjoy Cedar Key!

We are regular visitors to Cedar Key and the Tranquility condo. Try to go at least twice a year. Tranquility is exactly what you need to recharge your battery and escape the stress of work and the dailey grind. The condo has everything you need, kitchen is completely stocked, nice selection of movies and music, and the computer for those who just can't give up the technology for a few days. This unit has the absolute best view of the Marsh and Gulf in the complex. We are very content to spend hours on the balcony watching the birds and fishing boats through out the day. To break up the days you can take a dip in the pool or soak in the hot tube at the pool. Enjoy walking around Cedar Key and taking in the laid back attitude of the community and residents, or try your hand at fishing from the dock or pier in town. Charter fishing is also available. If your looking for total relaxation you can't go wrong by staying a few days in Cedar Key at the Tranquility condo.Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you Floyd! We so appreciate you staying with us since 2004 - yes really - it's been that long! Hope to "see" you again soon. :) - Cindy

This is one of the most relaxing vacations we have ever experienced. We could have stayed there forever! We didn't want to go out that much because the balcony was so peaceful and relaxing. My daughter who is 27, drove up from Orlando to stay 2 nights with us ....I thought the pace may be too slow for her, but she loved sitting on the balcony morning, noon and night also and didn't feel the need to be "doing something" . We did get kayaks from the kayak man at the beach and kept them for 4 days at the condos. It was so nice to have them at our leisure and they were really slow during the week, so he gave us a really good deal. > > You have a beautiful place and if I were you guys, I don't think I could leave it. But thanks so much for such a great place in which to stayRecommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, girls getaway, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Pam! Thank you for your great review and for staying with us! We look forward to your next visit!

Our stay at Tranquility was as advertised- clean roomy condo with beautiful nature views from the balcony and gulf view also. Great sunrises and sunsets from the balcony. Cedar Key is a natural delight- so historical and interesting. Every restaurant we walked to had awesome cuisine. Just take note the condo is a 3 story walk up- no elevator, but the view was great . Take the boat tour around the keys and learn about this special historical gem of a town.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you kindly Susan for your kind words! We sure appreciate it! We always learn something new about the town and we've been coming for fifteen years now. I hope you'll come see us again!

We just spent Thanksgiving week in total Tranquility. The condo lived up to our high expectations and then some. Really got to know the little village well -- especially Tony's clam chowder. The kitchen is, indeed, well equipped; the only thing missing was a mallet for cracking the fresh stone crabs, but we managed. In fact, all I can say is -- book us for same time next year. Thanks for allowing us to use your home away from home to make our Thanksgiving week so special!!Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing, pet owners, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you Lyn! So glad you enjoyed yourselves and be assured - the mallet is on the list and will be waiting for you next Thanksgiving! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

We have stayed at Old Fenimore Mill in Cedar Key many times over the years, and 'Tranquility', by far, is the nicest. The owners anticipated, and exceeded, all our needs, and provided us with all the comforts of a home. I realize a rental property can begin to look ‘tired’ over the years, but this is a well-maintained property. We did very little cooking while we were there, but the kitchen has everything you would need to get the job done. Most rentals have secondhand or cast-off cooking utensils, dinnerware, small appliances, etc., but not at 'Tranquility', and to me, that says a lot. The beds were very comfortable with luxury sheets and the bathrooms very clean. We enjoyed sitting on the porch during the afternoons (with a ceiling fan that actually worked!) and watched Roseate Spoonbills feeding in the marsh, as well as a mother dolphin with her calf playing in the water. The wildlife is indeed incredible, and the owners even thought to supply binoculars! There is a pool and hot tub on the grounds, and they have since updated the area with landscaping and a pergola for some shade. There is ample room to park a vehicle and boat trailer, and there is an area to clean your boat as well, which was nice. We highly recommend ‘Tranquility’ for your stay—we will definitely return!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you so very much - I'm blushing as I type! Your words are very kind and we so appreciate them. The wildlife in Cedar Key is fabulous and it is my personal favorite to sit and watch the birds and dolphins and often the fishing folks too! I hope you can come stay with us again soon. Take care, Cindy

Sorry to take so long to write. Hectic days since we got home. The condo was all we hoped for and more. Incredible how well stocked and supplied it is. I didn't do any cooking but sure could have, but you know that. We were all very happy with our stay at Tranquility. The balcony got a lot of use and we really enjoyed the views and birding. Three roseate spoonbills entertained us every AM at low tide, and having ibis pick around in the grass is a first. Exceptional bed in the main - most comfortable I can remember. But toooo big. We sleep on a double at home and kings are always a surprise.I think the high point of our stay was the wonderful dinner we had at the Island Hotel Dining Room. Scott and I also ate at the Island Room on the water, and it was good, but the old hotel was really a very special experience. Tony's clam chowder was as billed - very tasty. And the salads we got there were nice and very large! We did takeout as the cafe ambiance wasn't as good as our balcony. We enjoyed both local museums.Wish you weren't so far away! Thanks for a lovely week.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We've just returned to Iowa after spending a very relaxing week at Tranquility in Cedar Key. The condo and its environs were all that the website promised. Even though the March weather was a bit unpredictable and cool, we had enough sunshine days to enjoy bird-watching from the deck, a cruise with Capt. Doug, and manatee viewing at the Springs. Thanks for sharing with us - and our dog Flurry. The experience was worth 1,300 miles in the van to get there!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We have rented vacation rentals by owner for years and found no better place than Tranquility! Seldom does a place exceed our expectations, but Tranquility certainly did. The interior decor is as peaceful as the scenery that surrounds this ideally located condo. The weather did not cooperate with us - raining or windy or both - for most of our stay, but we found much to enjoy anyway. Delightful shops, great restaurants, interesting history, Capt. Doug's tour, the Shell Mound and Manatee State Park were we saw several manatees and lots of buzzards! And, of coures, the incredible bird watching to be enjoyed right outside our windows at Tranquility! Simply amazing. Our hope is to return in the not too distant future.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Dear Cindy, Before we go to bed we will tell you that we had a wonderful time in Cedar Key especially in Tranquility. It was a honour to be there and after 2 days it feeled as if we were home. Your website is wonderful but the reality was more. It is a great pity that Florida is far for us, but we hope to come back and than we hope to return to the lovely Tranquility for more than 2 days. Thank you so much, Wim & ErnieDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

We made a nature and birdwatching trip in S. Florida. Cedar Keywas a wa nice place to end we thought. But Tranquility is not only a good place for birdwatching, it is a paradise, an American fairytale. If we come back to Florida, we surely will be in this nice condo not for two nights, but at least for a week. Many, many thanks that we were here.Did you find this review helpful? About the owner: Cindy and John are '50/60 something' and new media designers living in middle Georgia where they enjoy birdwatching on a fabulous lake when they are unable to be in Cedar Key. Working vacations are a requirement for us and you can't beat working with Tranquility's view...
Why the Owner Chose Cedar Key:
We started visiting Cedar Key in 1997. An obscure reference to Cedar Key while doing a web search for 'wild Florida' piqued our curiosity and we headed down for a long weekend and fell in love.
Cindy spent her escapes on Cape Cod or the Maine coast in the past. After moving to GA, she couldn't find anything that had the old New England slow seaside town feel - where it didn't matter if you dressed for dinner, where there weren't any silly requirements for what shade of blue you could paint on a sign, and where birdwatching was just something you did as a matter of course, not just with a scorecard.
Cedar Key met all those requirements and more. No chain stores, gone fishing' signs in windows of businesses, restaurants with fresh seafood and not just overpriced 'weird of the week'. We looked for a place to visit, found our spot to love and waited five years for our first condo to be built so we'd have an excellent view.
Now 15 years later, Cedar Key is still our favorite place to escape. 'Florida without the mouse (sm)'. We still spend most of our Cedar Key time hanging out on our balcony or the fishing dock watching the world go by to de-compress. And we love renting our Cedar Key vacation rental by owner condos out to other like-minded folks and sharing our passion - Cedar Key, Florida.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
We've been online since 2003 advertising Tranquility and working directly with guests to help them have a wonderful vacation. Renting directly from the owner provides vacationers with the opportunity to ask direct questions like - do you have a hairdryer? Can I hook up my computer to your WiFi? What's the best restaurant in town? And of course, we love to help our guests plan their trips to Cedar Key from the quick weekend escape to a long stay for snowbirds. We'll tell you the latest on what's new and fun in town! Let us help you enjoy Cedar Key! And for the latest information, look for us on Facebook - 'CedarKeyTranquility'. (Note - not all properties advertised in Cedar Key are truly managed by owner - ask!)
