We stayed at Light of Dawn in May 2013 for 4 nights. Its a beautiful property owned by generous, knowledgable people. They have created a spot with beautiful plantings and flowers. Peter gave us a tour the first morning so that we knew what we were looking at, how to find the waterfalls and river, and to orient us overall to the property. The house is well equipped with TV and internet; the kitchen has everything you need to fix your own meals and there is a washer-dryer. Peter and Deborah advised us on trips to take. The one thing you have to be aware of--and for us it was positive--is that the property is about 45 minutes out of Quepos along a rough and winding road. You don't make a "quick trip" into town, to get to the beach or the Park. If you want to be right in that scene, this is not the place for you. But if you value listening to the birds, frogs, insects and river without the back beat of music or the sounds of cars, in a beautiful setting with nice people watching over you, Light of Dawn is terrific.

My wife and I were looking for a different experience for our honeymoon, since we would only be doing this once! We live in one of the most dynamic cities in the world so we did not want to visit places like London, Paris, Milan, etc. At the same time, we didn't want to spend our honeymoon at a beach resort with tons of other people. This is when we found this "secret" vacation rental! We are so glad we did! First, Deborah was absolutely a pleasure to correspond with while we were in the planning stages of the wedding. She sent us a package of what sort of things we liked to do, food we liked, etc. and when we arrived, everything was there and provided for us! This vacation is truly an "all inclusive". All you have to do is show up and have a great time! We flew in to Quepos on a small Cesna (pretty exciting in, and of itself) and Peter was there waiting for us at the airport! While driving us to the property, Peter explained so many interesting facts about Costa Rica and the local area! He knows so much about so many things so if you have a question, he probably knows the answer. The only thing that remains a mystery is how there is a Korean school in Quepos (get back to us Peter if you find the answer to this mystery)! Now, the food...prepare to come with a huge appetite! My wife and I were completely stuffed after every meal! And the fridge was constantly replenished with fresh fruits (which we requested) and goodies! We only stayed for 5 days so we chose to do a Villa Vanilla Tour and also a nature tour of Manuel Antonio National Park. Both were very entertaining without exerting too much energy (lies, according to my wife). We learned so much on each tour and saw some amazing things like how vanilla beans are hand pollinated! The Manuel Antonio tour was so awesome! Our personal guide showed us so many animals and insects and even took pictures of them for us through the telescope! Next time we will have to do other tours like zip-lining or water rafting!

Owner response: Hi Eugene, Thanks so much for your detailed comments. It was really fun planning everything for you and bride. I am glad to hear that it was as perfect as you hoped. The chef is amazing isn't he? It is always great to surprise people with his talents. We especially appreciate your comments since San Francisco has such amazing restaurants of its own! You were delightful and we wish you all the best, Deborah & Peter

My family and I are just about to leave this fabulous house and are very sad to do so. We travel extensively and use VRBO a lot for accommodations. This might just be our favorite ever. The house is in a secluded jungle perched on the side of a hill with beautiful views and is well-appointed. It's an open-air house, so you feel like you are a part of the jungle. The breezes coming through as you sleep at night are extremely refreshing. The grounds are wonderful - my husband said the waterfall with the swimming hole is the prettiest place he's been. The owners, Peter and Deborah, are interesting, kind people who went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed ourselves. I'm already angling to come back here for a longer stay!

Owner response: Oh my goodness, you were too much fun. And you are officially our first Archeologist! What a great family! Your children are so fortunate, you are exposing them to so many wonderful things in the world. They already know so well that the world is bigger than the mall! Young families out there ... unplug your kids before it is too late! Why not bring them to a Rain Forest! (We can't wait to have you back!) Pura Vida, D & P

Our families stayed at Light of Dawn for the week. The drive 1000 feet up was a beautiful experience although a bit nerve wracking when you look over the side of your car down below(after the first time, it was no longer scary). The path leading up to the house is absolutely breath taking! The house had screen doors all around and we can see the rain forest from every single room. We were literally surrounded by trees, and birds and nature. We loved all the different sitting areas that were set up so we can choose the view that we want to see while eating our meals. We were in total awe of the view from the bedroom balconies. The scene is straight out of the movie Avatar! The scene and view is beautiful beyond words. The kitchen is spacious and you can cook simple meals. Our favourite part was when Peter gave us tilapias from his tilapia pond (the most incredible freshest, tasting fishes we have EVER tasted). Peter was also kind enough to arrange for us to get a few free run chickens...Incredible! Our kids loved wandering around the grounds. Peter took us on a personal tour and showed us his tilapia pond, all the different fruit trees that he has planted and took us down to the waterfalls. Our kids had a blast swimming in the lagoon. We also enjoyed sitting in the river smelling fresh spring water, basking in the sun and hearing the calls of nature all around us. The water on our backs gave us natural massages....we will never forget those moments! The kids loved watching for all the different birds, and finding all kinds of frogs and insects. Peter and Eduardo are such amazing and kind hosts. They always bring us different treats to try. Our favourite was the sugar cane that was so sweet and juicy. The most amazing thing we found about our stay at Light of Dawn was that we NEVER got tired. We believe it was all the oxygen we were getting. EVERYONE MUST EXPERIENCE THIS HEAVENLY PARADISE! Peter and Deborah, we are coming back! TANG/ONG FAMILY

Owner response: Linh! Thanks so much for the nice review. You and your group of 10 were like a quiet breeze. What an incredibly nice group of people. I did not get to meet all of you this trip, but your sister and her family were so lovely and Pete said it was the same with all of you. Such serenity among you all and such a wonderful wonderful appreciation for nature and the natural setting here. You were truly a joy. We look forward to hearing from you and how your future plans for Costa Rica go! Best to you , Deborah & Peter

This property was everything my wife and I were looking for: a safe place in the country to be alone and re-connect with each other. We went to bed with the windows and doors open, and the sounds of night birds and crickets and the distannt river; and woke up to the sun just behind the rainforest/jungle mountains, and the sounds of 100's of beautiful song birds. Scrambled to get out ot bed and watch, photograph and take in the beauty and serenity. Peter & Deb are awesome, as well as Eduardo, the gardner/security guy (brush up on your spanish, but he is awesome). Do enjoy walking the grounds and the waterfall/pool. We were safe and secure the whole time. Cannot wait to go back next year, so I should probably be telling you all to stay away. But I would be lying horribly. Our time here was the very best part of our weeks in Costa Rica!

You were a joy to have, so relaxed and at home in the world around you. You fit here like a glove and we so appreciate having guests like yourselves who understand the natural beauty of this country. We are looking forward to meeting your daughter and her family next January! Pura Vida, Deborah & Pete

I don't have enough positive things to say about Deb, Peter, and this property. My husband and I booked this place as the first half of our honeymoon in Costa Rica. Between wedding planning and the holidays, we had so much going on leading up to our trip that we were running around pulling our hair out. Deb and Peter made this part of our trip SO EASY, and I could not be more grateful. Lots of really helpful advice before we arrived, and once we were there they went out of their way to make our trip more enjoyable. Originally we intended to drive down the night we flew in, which would have had us arriving in the middle of the night. Deb and Peter were cool with that but also encouraged us to reconsider, because of the difficulties associated with doing that. We did and we were so, so glad we did - by the time we hit ground, the day after our wedding, we were exhausted. Deb even booked us the hotel we stayed in that night in San Jose ... By the next day we were able to enjoy the drive down. The villa itself is so lovely - we really enjoyed the open air set-up, so fresh and really enforces how beautiful the surrounding jungle is. I was never too hot or cold. I loved the breakfast set-up, and drinking coffee on the balcony looking out at the jungle. Every lunch and dinner provided for us was delicious and tailored to what we like. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. Especially loved the coconut shrimp. After our crazy, hectic fall and holiday season, this secluded, beautiful, peaceful and romantic spot was EXACTLY what we needed to recharge. Deb and Peter made that even easier. Plus, they are so kind. My poor husband got some type of food poisoning (not from anything he ate at the villa - something on the trip down) and was pretty sick for a day. Deb and Peter searched us out drugs, etc and were ready to take him to the hospital if needed. They also brought 7-Up and Cheerios. It was so kind and we really appreciated it. Long story short, we're already plotting when we can get back down there ... Thank you both!

Owner response: Hi Guys, Great to hear from you! Well the 2 of your were simply adorable, what can I say. And Will, what a trooper! Even though you were under the weather, you still tuffed it out, and worked to get back on your feet. That was not surprising; from the very beginning, you were determined to give your beautiful bride a perfect honeymoon. Please stay in touch, we would love to have you back on day! Best, Deborah & Peter

We have lived and traveled all over the world teaching internationally and when we found The Light of Dawn, we knew we had arrived at one of the most beautiful spots on the earth. It was truly a tropical botanical garden of color, with everything you might imagine in a cloud forest. The way the land displayed it's beauty with layers of flowers, bushes, trees and mountains, was exquisite. The river font falls and ponds brought pure electric energy to the whole area. If you love quiet, beauty and endless paths for exploration of nature at her finest, stay here. The host and hostess were as loving and helpful as imaginable. We certainly didn't want to leave. Ever part of our stay was perfect. The meals were to live for and the tour through the cloud forest most educational. You'll love experiencing the majesty of this precious and private slice of heaven.

If you are looking for an authentic Costa Rica Rainforest adventure look no further! The setting of this house is amazing. The views of the rain forest are breath taking. The hosts truely love their piece of paradise and as a result are able to share all kinds of interesting information about the flora and fauna that surrounds you. The house is clean, comfortable and equipped with all of the things that you need. It is very private and the only sounds you hear are from nature around you. This was our 2nd time back to the Villa and I can't wait for a 3rd visit! Deborah and Peter pull out all the stops for their guests and make it a custom unique vacation. You will never want to get home to your real life after staying here. My boyfriend chose Costa Rica to propose to me and Deborah was in on the surprise. She made our big day so special and we went out with a bang. We love being adventurous and discovering waterfalls and animal tracks and feeling like we are in the clouds when the fog rolls over the rainforest. There's nothing like this experience! Pura Vida!

Like many guests, you have become part of the family .... we are your "friends in the forest", lol. You are always such a joy to have here, and I will never forget the first day you arrived. Caught in a warm but unexpected shower, I found you both laughing hysterically under a giant banana leaf you had fashioned into an umbrella. You're love of nature put you right at home is the magic of the rain forest. We are already looking forward to your next return :)

1st let me say, the photos do NOT do this place justice! I knew we wanted a private yet pampered honeymoon. Deb, Pete & their crew did not disappoint. It's hard to put in words how incredibly perfect every thing was. I have travelled extensively but my husband had not so I was trying to find a place off the beaten path yet that would have that extra indulgence you want in a special getaway. I almost had a hard time thinking they would make all arrangements but it was great to let them! Deb answered ALL of my questions quickly & easily. My husband's main concerns were bugs & hot water. No problem with the hot water (except during a bad storm that knocked out power but that was temporary & fun) & we were amazed at how few bugs there were considering it was the rain forest. I used bug spray once & didn't bother again. Plus, I now understand why people rave about Costa Rica! I was pleasantly surprised to find no issues with the water & even though it was rainy season. It was sunny every morning and it rained shortly after we got back from our activities which made it the perfect time to either nap or read a book or any other indoor activity. I was initially encouraged by the reviewer who said he would eat anything yet his wife was very picky. The food was incredible! @ every meal my husband & I would take a bite, look at each other and say, "Wow!" They really did cater to our preferences while incorporating the local foods, what was in season and what was actually grown on their property. The staff that Deb & Pete have are all incredible and the little touches were so appreciated. They make sure you are very spoiled yet have more than enough private time as well. They really know what they're doing. I'm almost hoping word doesn't get spread too far as we will want to return and enjoy the beauty, serenity, and pampering @ Light of Dawn! But, it's one of those rare gems that you have to share so that others can enjoy as well! We were torn about going to the beach our last 2 days and while it was hard to leave Light of Dawn, the hotel (Mango Moon) was a great compliment. I don't think there was 1 thing we would change. We zip lined and did the Villa Vanilla tour. My husband went on that one because it was what I wanted to do & I think he enjoyed it as much, if not more, than me. Thanks for sharing your special place Deb & Pete! Thanks for making us feel so comfortable & thanks for making it the honeymoon we dreamed it would be!

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Owner response: Stephanie! We would share Light of Dawn with you anytime. You were SO much fun to plan everything with. I totally "got" you, and I think together we were able to put together the perfect week. It is really one of the best parts of what we do; being able to personalize the trip to include exactly what works best for our guests. We are glad you enjoyed Chef Edgar's meals. We think he might have fallen from heaven - world class cooking, we agree! It was so nice to see you relax together. You are a very sweet couple - welcome to the family!

We spent 7 days for our honeymoon in this magical place. The flight from San Jose to Quepos on Sansa airlines is the best way to get here. Planes are well equipped and the flight takes less than 30 minutes. The trip from Quepos to the property is certainly interesting, a great way to be introduced to the countryside. Deb and Peter have done a great job making the property into a beautiful oasis in the rain forest. The house is wonderful, with many screened porches and rocking chairs and hammocks. In July the weather is predictable, the morning starts off cool and clear, warms up with a breeze, then about 2 the afternoon rains move in, cool it off just in time for dinner and then the rain stops. The food was absolutely outstanding. Every morning two fresh fruits and fresh joice was available as well as other options cereal, bread, etc... Lunch and dinner were outstanding, especially the dinners. New Chef - Edgar provided dinners that were truly 5 star quality and plenty of it. Freshest ingredients assured meals that had tremendous flavors (the tilapia for dinner was swimming in the property fish ponds that morning), and Edgar's sense of humor produced some truly amazing dinner sculptures. Clara provided excellent house services, assuring that the house was immaculate. The choices of adventures was very wide...from the adventures to the more sedate. Peter was very accommodating for requests...trips to the beach or a visit to the farmers market in Quepos. The most enjoyable aspect was the ability to get away from it all...to be surrounded by the beauty of the rain forest, the animals (some unusual!), and the birds....and to relax in the rocking chairs and watch the world at a slower pace. For us, it was a perfect place to spend 7 days doing whatever we wanted to do, whenever we wanted to do it...or doing nothing at all.

Owner response: Thank you so much for your kind remarks. You were both so enjoyable to have as guests. It is always so nice to see couples truly relax here. There is something about the natural setting, the fresh - amazing - meals, & the beautiful surroundings that lend itself to this experience. We are glad that the package works so well for you. And on behalf of everyone, thank you both for your work at NASA. We are all so grateful for the amazing achievements and contributions to America and to Science world-wide. My husband and I got back from costa rica in beginning of June from our honeymoon and I wish we could go back everyday! It truly was an awesome trip. I agree with one of the other reviews about Sansa. It was so easy! And my husband and I got great pictures from the plane! The villa is really awesome. It's so incredibly private and all you can hear are these little dinging frogs and birds. Nelson, their tour guide for the property, toured us on the first day and let us try all these different fruits, took us to a bunch of gorgeous waterfalls, and stopped and showed us different costa rican animals and insects. Peter, the owner, even has his own tilapia pond. The land deborah and peter own is amazing. While we were swimming in the waterfall we saw one of those jesus lizards that run so fast they run on top of the water! My husband and I hiked around the grounds and went swimming in the waterfalls two days of the 7 we were there. (Not including the day with Nelson and the other days we were doing excursions) We went in the beginning of rainy season so late afternoon it would rain, but it was so relaxing! The food at the Villa is SO GOOD! My husband and I were able to tell her things we like and don't like and they made a menu around that. The first meal we had I was shocked by the amount of food! For lunch they make you a salad an entree and dessert! Then they make a third plate to put in the fridge! And if your on an excursion they take you to a restaurant in the local town. So good :) There was so much food, you never go hungry. We even listed the type of alcohol and drinks we liked and they stocked us up. My body was in shock when we got back to the states haha. Everything is so fresh, most of the stuff they grow right on the property. Like they made bananas flambe one night and just went outside and picked them right off the tree. YUM! (I'm now addicted to plantains!) It was hard to choose excursions because there were so many of them! We ended up going ziplining, jet skiing and on a sunset cruise. They were all great! You have the option to stay 2 nights at a hotel in town. We stayed at Mango Moon, which was really nice. If you want to see monkeys this place doesn't disappoint. They fly from tree to tree it was hysterical! My two best friends for our wedding gift bought us dinner at a really gorgeous restaurant also in town that has amazing views of the ocean and sunset. Best vacation!!

Owner response: Kamie & Dave, You were delightful. Wherever we took you, people felll in love with you .... as did we and our staff! You're wonderful friends requested the surprise dinner for you at the ocean and we had great fun planning together. Such good friends, I am sure you are off to a great new life together. Al the best! We had the most amazing time in Costa Rica. We were married the end of March and visited Costa Rica the first two weeks of April. Our vision of what we wanted and wished for our honeymoon to be was COMPLETELY fulfilled with the help of Deb, Pete, Cleo and Clara. We have both traveled pretty extensively and eaten at 5 star restaurants, as well as love to cook ourselves, and you could not have had any better of a meal, including presentation, than what Cleo and Clara prepared. The honeymoon theme is evident in every aspect of your stay, from the heart shaped serving dishes, heart shaped rice pilaf and cheesecakes, to the flower pedals and chocolates on your turned down bed in the evening. The entire property is surrounded by beautiful flowers and birds but they also bring the beauty inside with gigantic, fresh cut flower vases throughout the house, kept fresh and changed regularly. The privacy and catering to your every need is a wonderful treat. We are both amateur bird watchers and we were in awe of the diversity of birds you can see just simply sipping your coffee on one of the balconies. Birds so colorful you wonder how that occurs in nature. The tours were a wonderful addition, however, we plan to return every year for our anniversary and will be quite content never venturing from the house for the entire time we are there.

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Owner response: Thanks so much! The two of you were really inspiring. You call yourselves amateur bird watchers, but your vast knowledge & passion for birdwatching was so rewarding to share with you. You unveiled some of the secrets to this special aspect of the property, and we will forever view it differently! We have recently contacted some bird-watching tour groups to discuss including us as one of their stops. Please do return anytime. We promise to always feed you well & have birds serenade you each morning.

As reviewed on Trip Advisor: My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon in March 2012. It was amazing! From the moment we arrived we felt welcome. We were a little late arriving and when greeted by Peter and Deborah were told they already had a booth reserved for us at a restaurant and were told to get whatever we wanted on the menu - they paid. Everything was completely organized yet flexible (They even rescheduled a tour for us at the last minute). Exactly what you want on a honeymoon or any vacation for that matter. The staff was amazing. They were there when we needed them, yet we still felt as if we were the only people on the entire 200+ acres of private rainforest. This is a true all inclusive vacation. All meals, snacks, tours, transportation, etc. were included. Peter even took us into town and showed us the best places to get souvenirs cheap! Our host, Peter and Deborah, were great people. We can't say enough good stuff about them. Peter even volunteered to drive into town to pick up a few forgotten items for us! I cannot recommend this place enough! My wife and I definitely would love to go back in the future.

The Light of Dawn Villa in the backwoods rainforest of Costa Rica is best decision we could have made for a honeymoon!!! Deborah and Tim were the most inviting hosts ever. The time and effort they put into our trip was personal, beautiful and very thoughtful. We had fresh flowers and chocolate all the time for the wife. As for me, the two private chefs kept me out of the kitchen the entire week!! With fresh, perfectly cooked local seafoods, meats, fruit and veggies we felt like movie stars all day long. I am a professional chef on Mega Yachts. Catering to all types of people with all types of likes and dislikes really makes some chefs crabby and loose their love for cooking. Not on our honeymoon.. My wife has the appetite of a horse and the palette of a toddler. Very easy to please.... As long as it's nothing "weird". To make a long story short the preference list I gave Deborah for my wife's and my visit was about as long as a short novel. I'm easy. Cook good, fresh local food for me.. For my wife.. See pages 1-18. My wife might have enjoyed the food better than me. The beautiful and charming table settings, the milk glass china, candle light every night. It was such a memorable experience. Our refrigerator stayed full with all kinds of homemade eats and treats. Desserts of all kinds. Lots of fruit. Beer, wine, booze.. Everything. The house and the property were just as amazing. Soft super comfortable beds and sofas. Huge bedrooms overlooking the amazing rainforest with all the Tucans, hummingbirds, Falcons, Bats, Lizards.. Every kind of animal you could think of. Amazing sunsets every night.. The experience was everything I had envisioned for the honeymoon to be was all right there in one package deal!!! If you ask Deborah and Pete really nicely they'll go into town and get you the "special local treats, eats and quiches~~ There're is really not enough room to write all the good things about our honeymoon experience. The atmosphere, the hosts, the House, the waterfalls and natural made rain water pool, the chefs, the linens, the beds, being outdoors, looking at the sunrise from your bed over the rainforest, the wildlife, the way we were looked after. ALL FIVE STAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My wife and I will for sure return for another visit in the near future.....

Owner response: Adam! It was so much fun to have you and the lovely Tessa stay here. I know that in your work as a professional chef, you are forever dealing with a stream of different guests who arrive on the yacht with different culinary demands. How nice it was to let you kick back and enjoy your time with your new bride. We understood how great it would be to not have to cook! But instead be pampered with great meals and service yourself for once. We were pleased to keep you both happy and would welcome you back any time!

My wife and I spent 10, count them 10 fantastic days at the Light of Dawn Villa and were completely over taken by the shear beauty of the setting where this spacious open Villa is located. Peace, quiet ,relaxation, and privacey were on our top 10 list of needs and it deliverd. The property is well taken care of and the landscaping, Wow! It adds it's own beauty to the already exsisting beauty of the rain forest jungle all around you. Food serverd to us was very good and plenty of it, we definetley did not go hungry. Some activities like the Vanilla plantation, river rafting, and zip lining we scheduled were close by.Others took a little more time to get to but were worth the time spent. You just have to take the oppertunity to see and experience this place to get the benefit from it. Me and wife definitly came away with a (we made a good choice here) experience. We would return time again when we could, and hopfully soon. We're already talking to other people about taking the trip, and if any of them do, I know they won't be disapointed. We certainly were not. Ohla

We chose Light of Dawn as our vacation destination based on exactly what it had to offer. We were not disappointed. From the moment that Pete picked us up at the airport, it was the beginning of a wonderful experience. He shared so much information with us about Costa Rica and plants, trees, etc. We arrived at the villa and immediately fell in love with it. Clean, comfortable and private. The villa had no windows just screens and shutters which was great as it allowed for cool breezes and bird sounds to filter through the house. The birds beckoned us in the morning to get up. Such a joy. We were fascinated (like kids in a candy store) by the insects, birds, flowers and all the other treasures the jungle has to offer. Nelson was our tour guide for the property showing us the river, waterfalls, tilapia ponds and all the different trees and plants. He was very knowledgeable and an engaging young man. We really enjoyed him. I can’t say enough about the delicious meals prepared for us by Clara and Cleo. We had a bit of a language barrier but got through that with a lot of laughs. The ladies are delightful. For Valentine’s Day, Cleo roasted a chicken from her own farm. It was the size of a small turkey (I have a picture) and tasted heavenly. Fresh fruit and vegetables served regularly. Desserts = WOW!!! We had chosen several excursions: spice plantation tour, jet skiing, zip-lining, Manual Antonio Park tour, Sunset Sail and the guys did the river rafting (starting at the property). All had been arranged by Pete. We were completely satisfied with all of our guides on these adventures. Everyone was professional, friendly and a lot of fun!!! We really want to shout out a big THANK YOU to Deborah and Pete. It was the best vacation we ever had. We LOVED the stories Pete told us. We also appreciate Pete’s expertise and the hard work he and Deborah have invested in to their property. A real labor of love. We miss them and are looking forward to a return trip.

Owner response: Nancy, I have to say, it was really wonderful having you and your friends. The 2 weeks just flew by and the whole time it was easy and fun arranging things for you. You all seemed "right at home" here in the rain forest and are we look forward to your return visit! Pura Vida, Deborah & Peter

My daughter sent me the link to the Light of Dawn Villa with the caption: "Check out where I'm going to be married one day". Hence, my husband and I surprised the couple with a Christmas gift to Deborah and Pete's paradise. Deborah immediately went into action planting the trail to the bluff where the lucky couple was to be married (in six months) with palm trees and native flowers so that their walk to the bluff would be in "full bloom" for their ceremony. Deborah then carefully crafted and customized the ceremony by offering as many or as few options as the couple wanted. From the flowers, the living arbor at the bluff, the horses, the flower girls, the musician, the officiant, the celebratory meal...not one detail was forgotten! And all went off without a "hitch". Easy, breezy, and beautiful! Along with the wedding, the honeymoon was more than the couple could have ever dreamed of! They felt like they were "at home" the moment they arrived. Pete was their chauffeur and took them to wherever or whatever excursion their hearts desired. Fantastic gourmet meals, and lodging needs were personalized to the lucky couples stlye. The value of this package far surpassed the cost. You can trust Deborah and Pete to deliver and know that your couple will be safe in their hands in Costa Rica.

I researched a Costa Rica vacation for a year and found the Light of Dawn Villa is truly the only all inclusive package out there...AND IT IS CHEAPER THAN MOST HOTELS OFFERING ONLY BREAKFAST! You can't beat the generous package Deborah & Pete have set up for their guests! They give you a little taste of everything in the package- we were truly treated like royalty! Their service is impeccable from picking us up at the airport, to the wonderful food served throughout the days, to the kind and entertaining tour guides on our excursions, to the gorgeous villa & surroundings on the property, to the wonderful couples massage, to having your own personal chauffeur and the 2 night beach stay. It is simply amazing! They planned the perfect wedding ceremony for us with gorgeous flowers, sweet flower girls, a kind minister, delicious food, beautiful horses that we rode out to our ceremony site on the bluff overlooking the endless views that surrounded us for 11 unforgettable days. Deborah & Pete have truly created a dream that all should experience whether it be for your wedding, honeymoon, or the best vacation of your life! We felt like we were amongst family the entire trip and loved the culture so much, we will be back time and time again. The best trip of our lives! We have so much gratitude for Deborah, Pete and all of their lovely staff that create such a wonderful experience- it was truly life changing!

My Husband and I stayed at Light of Dawn Villa for 5 days. Before it was time to leave we both wanted to stay and work on Pete's farm to live in Costa Rica forever! The scenery will blow your mind. The peaceful serenity and openness of the house is relaxing and exhilarating. My husband and I had a lat honeymoon and the vacation helped us rekindle our fire for one another. Peter is extremely knowledgeable about Costa Rica and nature. He is a local celebrity because every tour knew about Peter and about our arrival. All of the tours come with a meal and are well worth the money. Peter has hired the best cooks in his town. Their ribs and fish were our favorite. Clara and Cleo's cooking put my North Carolinian grandma's home cooking to shame. The best part about this getaway was the fact that you could keep in touch with society if you needed through his landline, internet, and satellite tv. The villa is located deep in the forest so I would not suggest you drive yourself unless you are extremely comfortable with mountain roads. We spent 2 nights in town before coming to Light of Dawn and it was a perfect transition from Florida, to Manual Antonio, to Light of Dawn. Pictures can't capture the true essence of this place.

We are so happy with our choice of honeymoon! The owner and staff provided us with such wonderful service and local knowledge. We really loved the local fare that was cooked for us each day we were at the villa during lunch and the dinners every night. It was a perfect end to the day. The villa was very open and spacious and the sounds of the rainforest and the rain in the late afternoons and evening made the trip complete. All the tours we booked in advance through Peter and Deborah so all we had to do was show up! It was amazing not having to drive anywhere or decide anything for a full week. We left incredibly relaxed and refreshed! It was everything we hoped it would be and then some! We hope to be able to return one day! Thank you for the trip of a lifetime!

Words and pictures hardly do justice to the Light of Dawn Villa when trying to describe our stay. Deborah was most helpful in setting up our stay prior to our arrival, s that we knew exactly what to expect when we got there. Pete picked us up in Quepos, and gave us the guided tour into the rainforest en route to the villa. The sheer beauty of being in the rainforest is something that everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime. And if you wish to visit the rainforest, this is certainly the place to do it from. The villa is a magnificent two story home with lots of open room to move around. It is very clean and well maintained. With balconies on two sides, you can pretty much get a panoramic (and breathtaking) view of the mountains and forest, taking in the birds, butterflies, and local flora. The trails cut through the forest were something to behold, and we spent many hours exploring them, relaxing at the waterfalls and natural pools. Loaded with all the modern amenities one would need, combined with superb meals, made this the highlight of our trip to Costa Rica. We had the combined luxury of being alone alone and feeling secluded in our villa, and still were able to go on a couple of tours arranged by our hosts. I doubt we could find a more romantic honeymoon getaway anywhere.

This place is sooo amazing!! We searched forever and we were thrilled to find this, it was exactly what we wanted. We did not want to be hanging around a crowded swimming pool in some hotel. It was enchanting to be in actual rain forest with gorgeous tropical plants and trees and only natural sounds. The birds serenade you awake in the morning. We were exhausted when we arrived, but it didn't take long to rest up there. There is so much to do, it really makes you want to come back. Zip lining was an absolute blast, I highly recommend it! The place is an adventure wonderland. We loved hiking the trails and spent one whole morning together in the waterfalls by ourselves. I thought I was dreaming, it's like you are in Avatar. The staff was so sweet and attentive and the chefs cooked delicious meals. I love having time together over candle lit dinners at the end of the day. Costa Rica has such fantastic food. Everything is organic and grown on the local farms. I have really never tasted mangoes, papayas & pineapples so fresh and flavorful. They grow many things on the property such as coconut trees. Eduardo would you cut you open fresh sweet coconuts in the morning to drink. A great way to start the day! It was truly an experience we will never forget. On the way there, as we climbed up into the forest I wondered if we had made the right choice. But once you are there, you really feel like you are in your own little Paradise. They saw to it they we had everything we wanted, and for us the week could not have been more perfect.

Advertising on the website describes it as "being pampered in luxury”, which we felt was misleading. The villa has no windows; it is open to the outside and protected by flimsy shutters and screens filled with gaps and holes that allow biting insects inside to disturb guests, even when the shutters are closed. Advertising for the property boasts 20+ waterfalls, but we only ever saw about 10 or so. There were allegedly others, but according to our guide they are deeper in the rain forest and inaccessible. Dinner for the first night’s stay is prepared by an actual chef, and guests select a meal based on a menu available online. Some of the selections don’t make sense though e.g., I selected a creole gumbo as a soup choice, and the chef said that she wouldn’t be preparing this for us as it takes too long to prepare. We wondered why, if it couldn’t be prepared, it’s still listed on the menu as an available option? Advertising on the website states that a chef "will prepare delicious breakfast... for you”, but this is untrue. Pre-packaged breakfast foods are left in the fridge, and it is up to guests to cook breakfast for themselves. For snacks, we listed that we like cheese and crackers, chips and salsa, chocolates, fruits and nuts. This was another major disappointment of the stay. Cheese and crackers was simply Ritz snack packs and pre-sliced processed cheese. Chips and salsa are pre-packaged junk food in the pantry. Chocolates were a basket full of candy bars and Oreo cookies. Given the price, in terms of food, the villa itself was such a huge letdown, given that we'd experienced freshly made gourmet chocolates and foods in other parts of Costa Rica, all at prices less than a tenth of what we paid here. Internet is impractical for guests since it is a hard-wired internet connection with a laptop provided by the property. When we asked for wi-fi access as we access e-mail from our smart phones, the owner stated that he had a wireless router that could be connected, but it was never provided during our stay. The closest we got to our request was a hand written note one morning that said, “I still can’t find the wi-fi.” Advertising on the website states "the caretakers will tend to your laundry for you” as part of the package, but when we asked about this, we were told to do our own laundry. Similar to being asked to make our own breakfast, given the price of the package, we found this disappointing and frustrating.

Owner response: Is it possible that Pete's ex-wife sent you? We were just kind of wondering since the nature of your review is just so out of sync with anything else being written about us. It just seems a tiny bit suspect, that's all.... But I encourage the readers to read on and decide for themselves. That being said, we know that this experience is not for everyone. Although we have free US calling and broadband Internet available, we do not advertise Wi-fi. In all honesty, this has never come up before. I can only assume that Honeymooners who come to stay 1000 ft up in a rain forest had either more adventurous or more romantic things on their mind. We are sorry you felt out of your element. We have recently switched to letting couples handle their own breakfast as a way of giving them the utmost privacy (which is explained in the materials sent out to you ahead of time). Again we specialize in Honeymooners. Most seem to prefer that time to themselves in the mornings and so the change was made out of respect for their time together. As for the waterfalls .... we are sorry you only saw 10 (or so) of them. There are indeed at least 20 if not more on the 223 acres. You can not see all of them, but you can hear them all around you at night. In addition, you were only 5 days with us and went on a tour each day. Others who have stayed longer and had more time have made arrangements with the tour guide to hike up the mountains to view these surrounding waterfalls. Some are over 100 feet tall and are quite stunning. It is an aggressive hike, but very rewarding for those who manage it. If you are up to the challenge, please come back when you have more time and we would be happy to take you to see them! All the best, D&P

We stayed at the Villa for our honeymoon in April 2011. If I had to describe it in one word with would be: INCREDIBLE!! From the planning stages to the actual trip, every thing was great!!! The owners, Deborah and Peter, are WONDERFUL. They were such a pleasure to deal with. The staff, Dona Cleo and Daisy, were absolutely amazing. They catered to every and all of our needs. They really spoiled us rotten!! They cooked the most amazing food. When we left, it felt like we were leaving family. The Property itself was Heaven on Earth!! It was absolutely beautiful. The villa, the grounds, the waterfalls, everything was breathtaking! I am already planning my next trip back!!!

Hello, we stayed at the villa the week of November 14th to celebrate our 4 year anniversary. My lady and I are avid travelers and all I can say is that out of all the countries we have visited, this trip to Costa Rica was the most special. Deborah and Pete offer outstanding service, the property is breathtaking, the culture is devine, the tours are unforgettable thanks to the knowledgeable guides and the villa is a home you would want as your own. It felt as if you were a part of the jungle day and night. If you seek romance, relaxation and you love nature, this is the perfect place for you! We will 100% definitely be back to visit this magical country and there's only ONE place that we will stay and that's at the beautiful Rainforest Villa. Thank you Deborah and Peter. Andrew Walter

My wife and I stayed here on our honeymoon in December of 2010. At first we were a little hesitant to commit to this trip, as you can probably understand. It is located in the rainforest of some strange country we’ve never been to. But after talking to Deborah via email all our worries went away as she answered all our questions and took care of all the little details ahead of time. We were looking for a luxurious, isolated place, and we sure found it. The trip from Quepos airport to the villa is definitely an adventure and 45 minutes of driving through less and less inhabited land on a very bumpy road is well worth the reward of seeing nothing but rainforest and mountains all around you. We’re used to the hustle and bustle of living in a busy city so the location of the villa took a little bit of adjusting to but after a couple of days at the villa full of food, tours and fresh air, we were waking up with the birds very relaxed and without any worries. We felt a little spoiled getting meals cooked for us, and I’m quite sure we ate far too much that week as the food just seemed to keep coming. We were stuffed! But you only take a honeymoon once, right? The tours were great, especially the zip-lining, which we highly recommend if you are feeling a bit adventurous. It also made us realize how lucky we were to have such a great place to stay. Everyone else was going back to some boring hotel after the tour…meanwhile we went up the mountains to our private luxury rainforest villa :) This is a great place if you are looking for a very unique location and don’t mind going off the beaten path a little to reap the reward of things like a private nature-made rainwater waterfall pool. If you want to be around crowds of people and spend your days doing touristy stuff, then you might be a little out of place. Normally I’m ready to get home at the end of a trip…but this time not only did we not want to leave….we were ready to fly back to Costa Rica as soon as we landed in Chicago!

As reviewed on Trip Adviser: e were suppose to go to Light of the Dawn Villa for our honeymoon (which we planned out for over a year), but had a death in my immediately family, so when had to reschedule. Deborah has been so unbelievably accommodating that I can't really express it in words. She's gone above and beyond what we could ever expect and has made us so happy we didn't go with a chain resort or something that would not show the compassion she's shown. We can't wait to go this January and based on the people we've talked to so far, we know it will be an amazing trip. If you're looking for a private, relaxing place that will spoil you and treat you like a true friend, this is the place for you. (Not to mention the 20 amazing waterfalls, massages, food and awesome scenery). Can't wait!!!
