Our home is best described as artistic and eclectic. The main house was built in traditional Swiss villa style 100 years ago.
The first rental property is on the ground floor, a new addition to the main house:
This newly built section is constructed with natural materials and clay walls. The house opens up to a real cook's kitchen with an island and French doors that open to the garden. There is a fold out sofa bed for 2 under a glass roof with light wood paneled walls. This chalet has a master suite which can sleep 4 two in a bed and two in a sofa bed. The home has clay walls and pear wood floors, a built in Turkish style four poster bed and and wood burning fireplace. There is a full bath with tub, rain shower a Natural-Position commode. The main room opens up into the garden.
The second rental unit has 2 bedrooms, a kitchen and a shower bath are located in the original house. The 2 sleeping rooms in back have cork flooring and were recently renovated. The larger bedroom has a view of the garden.
The third apartment is a lovely loft apartment with light from three sides and beautiful views of the city. It sleeps 4 comfortably.
You don't need a car to travel. We are less than 10 minutes from the central train station. Trains and buses depart regularly for ski destinations with 45 minutes. The airport is just 15 minutes away.
The Main house also comes with 2 loving cats.

Year Purchased: 2006
My husband and I just completed the renovation and addition to our 100 year old Swiss home. We've lived here for the past 6 years and love that we're living adjacent the forest and are within a few minutes walking to the old town. I'm an artist and my husbands a health therapist. When we first moved here the landscape reminded me of California, however I also discovered the thrill of extreme seasons. The colors here are so incredible. There's nothing like spring!
Why the Owner Chose Zurich
I fell in love with Winterthur the day I arrived in reminded me of the foothills of Marin County. I love that I walk through a small wooded area and down a roman path to the old town of Winterthur with 15 minutes.
The Unique Benefits of this House
Winterthur is a great city for art which is why I live here, but also is a fantastic bicycle city. In the mornings we Nordic walk in the Eschenberg forest, bike along the Toss river or just stroll through the Roman streets of town. In the Winter it's just a 30 minute drive to the starry snowy mountains.

Our family of four really felt at home here. We slept well, enjoyed preparing some of our meals here, and were really glad to have a place to leave our car as we explored the area. The cats are super nice - they are sweet and quiet, and did not bother anyone at all. In fact, they were a pleasure to have around. From this great location in Winterthur, we visited the Nature Park Bruderhaus just up the hill a short distance, drove under 30 minutes to Rheinfalls, 30 minutes to Constance, a short train ride to the center of Zurich, and an hour to Mt Pilatus. Also, its a short walk to a small market, and a slightly longer but still easy walk to a larger market. The bus stop is close by so its very easy to get to the bus and then the train which will take you anywhere. This is a great place to get away - the house is quiet, the garden is very private and comfortable. We felt very welcome, comfortable, and relaxed here. Good people. Good house. Great vacation!

Our stay in this beautiful house was good. We enjoyed the large area for my family and my parents. It was clean, lots of space to move around, and very well decorated with the owner's artwork. The only two drawbacks for us were some of the art was inappropriate for my children (one of which they switched out when we got there), and the cats were roaming around. However, when we mentioned that the kids were scared of the cats, the owners were very nice, and took the cats to their art studio. We would recommend this property because of it's location. It was a nice walk into downtown Winterthur, and it was a nice quiet location instead of being right in the big city of Zurich. It was easy to find, and the owners also gave us wonderful directions to a ski resort to visit.
