WELCOME TO BOULDER HOUSE
Your oasis of comfort and peace in the beautiful high desert.
Imagine it. A weekend, a few nights, a week or more, ensconced in a stunningly furnished, supremely comfortable, atmospheric adobe home... nestled in the dramatic mesa country just two hours east of Los Angeles.
THE PERFECT COMBINATION OF WILDERNESS AND LUXURY.
Boulder House is a large, two-story, four bedroom house, on 15 private acres. Boulder House is built directly into the desert rock. With its rock walls and jaw-dropping desert views, there are really very few experiences that bring you closer to the actual desert.
Close as you are to the desert's magnificence, however, you sacrifice nothing in the way of modern comfort and convenience when you stay at Boulder House.
There are four bedrooms, 2.5 baths and a guest room/office with wireless internet access. The double climate-control systems are new and features central heat and air. There are two televisions with DISH network access, a fully equipped kitchen with a gas stove, two refrigerators, ( one large and one mini, for drinks), a microwave, and a washer and dryer combo.
EXPERIENCE THE ENVELOPING PEACE OF THE DESERT, INSIDE OR OUT.
Sit by the charming period woodstove (wood provided) and linger over a glass of wine before dinner. Throw something on the outdoor barbecue (provided), or just set out some snacks by the pool. Soak in the JACUZZI in a private courtyard off the master bedroom. Sit out on the patio and look up - it's hard to believe you are looking at the same sky we see in the city. Inside and out, Boulder House is designed to provide maximum opportunities to savor the desert in comfort and style.
EXPLORE...
Boulder House is quiet and secluded. You can hike and climb without ever leaving the property. Follow Indian trails, see if the (seasonal) creek is running (don't worry, there's a footbridge). Of course, if you so desire, Pipes Canyon Preserve is about 10 minutes down the road, and inquire for local scoop on seasonal hiking.
Cooking is easy and fun at Boulder House, and there are also many grocery and restaurant options in Pioneertown, Yucca Valley and Joshua Tree. Our welcome book has all the info you need.

Why the Owner Chose Joshua Tree
The house itself. Of course we appreciate the cool, minimalist modernism of so many brilliantly designed or re-thought desert cabins. But for ourselves, we wanted something a little warmer, cozier. Something that felt more like home. Boulder House, with its four bedrooms ( five if you count the guest bed in the computer room), living room, dining room, TV room , outbuildings and pool, felt right. It had intimate spaces, private spaces, hang-out spaces, outside spaces, places to play and places to work. It sprawled over fifteen acres and had views of washes, a stream, the lights of Yucca Valley far in the distance. It was everything we had been looking for, and it was two hours from Los Angeles. It was home. Ours, and now, if you like, yours. Welcome.
Owner's Map of Joshua Tree
As a director and an artist, it's not surprising that the visuals were what got us. The road wound up through the desert, the yuccas and Joshua trees becoming more and more plentiful as the signs of civilization retreated. There was Pioneertown itself, perfect as a movie set (well, it was a movie set, duh!), Pappy and Harriet's, and then, of course, the boulders themselves - massive, majestic, at once welcoming and foreboding.
