Ocean and mountains and space and peace

Yes, the ocean is that close and the views are that lovely. From the large living room you can see ocean and the marvelous mountains, changing in the light throughout the day - what a great combination! We saw turtles from the house. You do not hear regular road noise - the house is 7 houses away from the highway, which is unusual for oceanfront property in Oahu. The bedroom is large, with lots of storage. The charming hosts provide many helpful items such as coolers and beach towels, a kitchen full of everything helpful, and their famous information binder. The nearby grocery store is well stocked for its size, and a big store is 5 easy miles away. A beautiful hike is less than a mile away. The overhead lights provide plenty of light for reading at night. Enjoy!

I spent a wonderful week at Hale O Kalahiki! It's very private, with a wonderful oceanfront location and great views down the Windward coast! The house is very comfortable - beautifully updated kitchen, very comfy mattress, incredible views from all over the house, and a lanai I never wanted to leave! I loved hearing the waves outside, all day and night, and enjoyed the ocean breeze throughout the house. It was a great location to explore Oahu from - much quieter than the city, with an easy drive to the North Shore, Hale'iwa, Turtle Bay, and everything I wanted to see! The best part of Hale O Kalahiki is the owners - Janice and Troy were so welcoming, and they gave me fabulous information about places to go, places to eat, places to visit - they really made my trip special! I arrived feeling cold, tired, and stressed out, and I left relaxed, rested, tan, and with a wonderful set of new experiences and memories! If I get to back to Oahu, I'll look forward to returning to the House of the Rising Sun!

My 86 year old mother and I stayed there for a mother-daughter getaway in November. Janice and Troy were absolutely wonderful hosts. As others have said before me, the book they have put together with all kinds of information on things to do, places to eat, etc. was awesome! This super sweet couple have really put alot of thought into making everyone's stay at their beautiful beach house the best that it could be. The house is immaculate and has everything needed for a great vacation. It was real peace of mind knowing that if we had any trouble with anything, or needed help of any kind that we could call them, and that they were local. To wake up to the sound of the surf in the morning and enjoy having coffee on the patio just feet from the ocean was amazing! I would recommend this rental to anyone without hesitation, and will return myself one day. Thank you Janice and Troy for making our vacation so special!

We were hesitant about renting a home, having never done this before. It was a scary proposition. However, Janice and Troy made this the most wonderful experience imaginable. I now cannot even think about staying in a cramped little hotel room. The home was stocked fully with anything and everything we needed. It felt like we were staying with family (in the best way possible). Janice was great, meeting us at the home, going over the amenities and giving us great advice about places to eat, places to snorkel, where to get the famous huli huli chicken...which incidentally was fantastic! Thank you Janice for giving us the info on where to find it. I am still craving more! The only complaint I have is that we did not have enough time to do everything we wanted to do. In our short four days, we were able to visit the Polynesian Center for a Luau and the evening show Ha, go on a snorkeling trip (thanks to your book Janice with the brochure from Ko'Olina), my mom, who was scared to go was so thrilled with the experience, visit the swap meet for souveniers (again, thank you Janice for that tip), and visit the Dole Plantation store for Dole Whip! We also were able to visit the LDS temple for our wedding anniversary. This home was so close, very convenient! AND, I am not one to be an early riser, yet I found myself excited to get up early morning to watch the sunrise. I have never seen colors in the sky like I saw from the deck of your home. My husband's only complaint is the number of sunrise pictures I collected on our camera! Thank you Janice and Troy for sharing your home and this piece of paradise with us! We hope to be back and for a much longer stay. We still need to visit Giovanni's shrimp truck and get some shaved ice! :)

My husband and I were looking for a very laid-back getaway. We did not want a resort, or a Waikiki type of environment and found just what we were looking for at the House of the Rising Sun. The property is exactly as pictured and described. The owner met us to give us an orientation and to be sure everything was in perfect working order. He gave us his cell phone and his wife's just in case we had any questions. The house also comes with an extensive and up-to-date three ring binder of information about local activities, restaurants, and grocery stores. We enjoyed fabulous snorkeling, hiking, kayaking and swimming all within minutes of the house. This area is not a tourist destination and yet we found the local residents friendly and helpful. Our week was a visit to the real Hawaii, not the plastic tourist packaged version of Hawaii. Our "bucket list" is a long one, but this is a destination we definitely plan to visit again.

Even before we stepped onto the property we knew that we'd made the right choice in accommodations. Right from our first contact Janice and Troy showed a unique concern for the well being and comfort of their guests. They were so kind to meet us at the property, even though it was late. We were also greeted with a exquisite basket and wine in celebration of our 20th wedding anniversary and my birthday. They took the time to provide us with information to help make our trip the best it could be. Janice's extensive information binder proved invaluable. She was right - the banana macadamia nut pancakes were to die for. The 'House of the Rising Sun' exceeded our expectations. It was even better than described. It was spotless, updated and homey. We felt comfortable the minute we stepped into the house. Everything we needed for our ten day stay was there and our grocery purchases were within walking distance. We especially enjoyed watching the spectacular sunrises off the deck while drinking our morning coffee, the plethora of stars in the night sky and the sound of the waves crashing as they lulled us to sleep in the very comfortable king sized bed. Thanks to Janice's and Troy's thoughtfulness and their beautiful 'House of the Rising Sun', we had an incredible 20th wedding anniversary and birthday celebration. We look forward to returning in the near future.

My spouse and I needed peace, quiet, beauty, fun and rest. We got it. The house is in a quiet, conveniently located little town. It has a well-appointed kitchen (we cooked most of our meals), beautiful view of the mountains, is right on the water and the bed gave us restful sleep. We could go in either direction in our rental car and hit amazing beaches for swimming like Waimea bay and Kailua beach park (go to both of them). We walked to the grocery store which was great. We spent a lot of time on the porch watching the water and the mountains. Why is seeing turtles play in the water so mesmerizing for so long? The information we received from the owners was perfect. We highly recommend. The only other thing I'd say that has nothing to do with the house is that when we were there, well, it's the windward side, so it was windy. But our strong recommendation stands.

Troy and Janice and the House of the Rising Sun was absolutely amazing! I, literally, could not have wished for a better honeymoon. Not only was the house in amazing shape and very clean, but Troy and Janice were also extremely welcoming and informative. They gave us the low down on all of the local places to visit/eat/see. Even a locally made amazing pie (Chocolate Haupia from Ted's Bakery) that you can get across the street at the market that we had for dessert every night! We ate at all of the local joints that they suggested and they were all amazing. They even saved us money by telling us the best places to go snorkeling and sights to see! Speaking of snorkeling, it was absolutely the coolest thing that we have ever done in our entire life! Just bout 15 minutes up the road at Sharks Cove we swam with sea turtles! Anyway, we would highly recommend (and plan on telling everyone) this place to everyone and we will definitely be staying here when we go back. We already miss it and can't wait to see Troy and Janice again! Mahalo nui loa Troy and Janice! Can't wait to see you again! Aloha, Josh and Sinclair

The House of the Rising Sun made for a perfect vacation! The house itself had everything and more needed to make for a great escape and Troy & Janice had great recommendations for things to do, see, and eat. We didn't bring much with us and were not missing anything as there was fishing gear, body boards, coolers, and much more. Location was perfect as it was quick and easy to get to everywhere we wanted to go and the views off the Lanai were incredible. Extremely happy with the entire experience and would recommend the House of the Rising Sun to anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing, amazing vacation experience! Maholo again Troy and Janice!

The Hale O Kalahiki house was accurately described on the VRBO site, but there was so much more. We brought beach towels - not needed, they had several. We brought a small soft sided cooler - not needed - they have 3 coolers in the house. Also available are bug spray, first aid items, fishing equipment, boogie boards, beach chairs, books on the island not to mention the large 3 ring binder that details so many attractions on the island. And if that is not enough, Janice and Troy are a wealth of information in themselves. We loved watching the sunrises from the lanai as we drank our coffee. Thank you, Troy and Janice.
