  My husband and I stayed at Kana Mar from January 12th to January 18th, 2011 and had the most wonderful time!! The accomodations were top notch and although the pictures posted are very accurate, the space is so much more beautiful in person!! Adi and her family run a wonderful business and are so helpful! For example, Adi was very flexible in how we paid her - we failed to come with enough US dollars which I was absolutely stressed out about, but Adi let us just pay her when we had a chance to get to the ATM in Santa Teresa, no questions asked! When we arrived Adi was there (with her most adorable baby;) to greet us and show us around and give us the specifics on our unit. Speaking of the unit - it has everything you could need: full kitchen with appliances, pots and pans, dishes, coffee maker ect...We stopped at the local grocery store in Santa Teresa (Dos Pinos...about a 5 minute drive, 15 minute walk from Kana Mar) and bought food and drinks for our stay. We spent our mornings eating our breakfast from the patio and drinking coffee while in the hammock, simply wonderful! There is also a great fresh seafood store in downtown Santa Teresa/Mal Pais "Product C" owned by a nice guy from Canada, we would stop there to buy the catch of the day and then head back to our place and make dinner and share a bottle of wine on the patio. There are many wonderful places to eat out in Santa Teresa/Mal Pais, but Kana Mar has everything you need to eat and relax from home! The bathroom, living room and bedroom were are incredibly clean and Adi provided us with plenty of towels. The pool was amazing! I would go outside every morning and just laugh out loud at the idea of having our own pool!! It is perfect for a couple or family, it is shallow at one end and deeper in the other end. It was very clean and surrounded by beautiful landscaping. Also, the patio furniture is all very comfortable, we have started looking for Adi's lawn furniture because we loved it so much, the lounge chair by the pool is really comfy! Location - Kana Mar is just off the main road of Santa Teresa which is good - NO DUST, the main road is a sandy/dirt road that kicks up a lot of dust from all the traffic so any accomodations along that road are covered in dust. The beach is a 2 block walk and this portion of the beach is beautiful and not too populated, and there is great surfing there for novices and advanced surfers. You will love Kana Mar and Santa Teresa!!

  Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

  Nous avons beaucoup apprécié notre séjour à Kana Mar, la petite maison et sa terrasse avec piscine privée offre un petit luxe pour 2 amoureux qui tranche avec les endroits typiques de Santa Teresa. L'architecture et la décoration de la maison en font un endroit chaleureux d'où nous avons eu du mal à partir, d'ailleurs nous avons allongé notre séjour d'une journée pour en profiter encore un peu plus. L'appartement est spacieux et la cuisine bien équipée (à l'exception des couteaux de chef mais c'est partout pareil) nous avons ainsi pu en empruntant 2 chaises aux proprios inviter des amis pour un dîner. Adi la proprio est très accueillante et nous avons pratiqué notre conversation espagnole avec le gardien des lieux qui est très sympathique. Nous avons également profité de la compagnie de ses 3 petits chiens. La propriété clôturée n'offre pas de vue particulière mais est située à 3 minutes à pieds de la plage. Nous avons recommandé l'endroit à des amis.

  Kana Mar is a beautiful, modern bungalow, perfect for two persons. We spent almost three weeks in this calm place, which is only 3 minutes away from the beach and delicious restaurants. It's furnished elegant and pure, and builds a very nice contrast to the lush environment. If you like to stay in a well designed house, Kanar Mar is great. And you can always relay on the its owner Adi, who helped us a lot with missing luggage or excellent restaurant tips. Thank you for everything. We will come back.

  Santa Teresa is a very nice little town, with everything you might need for a good relax vacation. The surf spot, which is 2 min walk, is probably one of the best in the world. The food, either in grocery around or in restaurant is fresh and healthy. The whole month I was there the sun was shinning and weather was just incredible. The owners are a wonderful couple that are very helpful, while never being too much. The house itself provide all the modern amenities without being a clash with the surrounding environment which is just pure beautiful nature. The local are nice and easy going. I recommend this place to anyone who would want some relax vacation, especially to people into the surfing/yoga and the easy going life. Probably one of the best vacation spot I ever saw. pura vida

  My husband and I stayed at Kana Mar for 3 months while traveling around Costa Rica. We had originally planned to stay for only 1-2 months, but once we arrived we loved it so much we decided to stay longer! The house is beautiful and comfortable and is located on a small, quiet street, which made it very private and peaceful. There's a great outdoor shower as well as a cozy sitting area and a fabulous private pool. The pool is a perfect place to relax or cool off anytime. The outdoor sitting area was often used for playing cards, reading, yoga, observing nature, and enjoying dinners (and happy hour drinks) at home. Kana Mar is very close to the beach and a popular surfing spot. The nearby beach access leads to a wide beach with lots of palm trees. My husband loved being close to a great surf break. He rolled out of bed and across the street almost every morning to check out the waves. Various parts of the beach are completely secluded, and the sunsets are amazing. Kana Mar is in an excellent location, especially if you don't have a rental car. (there is also a bus stop nearby if you are arriving or departing the area by bus) Many houses in Santa Teresa are a long, steep drive uphill, but Kana Mar is much more convenient. The house is far enough away from the main road for privacy and tranquility, but close enough to bike or walk anywhere in Santa Teresa. While staying at Kana Mar we biked and walked everywhere -- restaurants, cafes, shops, grocery stores, etc. are abundant along the main road. There are some fantastic restaurants within biking/walking distance of Kana Mar, however we also enjoyed staying in and cooking some meals at home since the house has a full size stove, oven and refrigerator. This was our second trip to Santa Teresa, Costa Rica but our first time visiting in the green or "off" season. During this time some restaurants are closed, but most close at the end of September and throughout October. During June, July, August and most of September we found plenty of open restaurants, and the local sodas are always open - any time of year. The setting and location of Kana Mar made our experience in Santa Teresa very memorable. This is a great place for a peaceful, romantic and relaxing vacation. Adi and Avi were very welcoming and helpful during our entire stay too. They happily assisted with whatever we needed around the house. They are wonderfully kind people, and we hope to see to see them again in the future!

  Was the listing description accurate regarding the location? Yes – at Kana Mar – you are surrounded by nature. Santa Teresa is beautiful. The community itself was a bit more rustic than expected – possibly the result of websites and guide books saying this is one of the most rapidly developing area on the peninsula. It’s all relative. We were there for a week at the beginning of the offseason. It rained a lot, but mostly it was just misty and it was only disruptive to our plans on one occasion. It should be noted that many of the businesses close for the offseason – so if you read about a great store or restaurant you hope to try while you’re there – there’s a chance it will be closed. Did the listing photos accurately reflect the rental’s appearance and amenities? Mostly. This was the one area where there is room for improvement. The description states ‘fully equipped kitchen’ – there was one small sauce pan to cook with, and maybe a larger kettle. The little equipment that WAS there was well used - not making us want to spend time in the kitchen. Unfortunately – the front door opens to a great view of the kitchen/fridge - which was quite rusted and unsightly. The outdoor space was extremely pleasant – covered deck area w/ furniture allowed us to be outside to enjoy the rain if we wanted. The small private pool got daily use, along w/ the outdoor shower. Was the property clean and well-maintained? Yes. Was the owner helpful in answering your questions or concerns? To be honest - as our trip approached - the sparse communication became concerning. We requested a blanket one night – as the bed only had sheets. After checking with owner and a neighbor she referred us to, a blanket was not available. Also – as noted by an earlier renter – there are two pillows, and only two pillows, 2 towels and only to towels (no beach towels). I understand this isn’t a ‘resort’ – but in renting a ‘vacation home’ it seems reasonable to hope for some comfort measures in order to attract guests (especially repeat visitors – which we will not be.) Would you recommend this property to a friend or relative? Not as a romantic destination, but as a surfing or adventure stay – sure. I’d definitely warn them to expect minimum amenities. What nearby activities, attractions and restaurants would you recommend? The Burger Ranch had us coming back almost daily for lunch or dinner or snack. The Mexican restaurant (don’t recall the name) was very good as well.

Santa Teresa is a growing and fast developing town and it is true that in the low/rainy season the town is quiet and lots of the businesses are closed, BUT in the high season, starting November, this is THE place for tourists that like to surf, relax, eat good, enjoy the sun and romantic time together in a jungle surrounding.(seems romantic to me..) In our sweet villa, we do try to keep the kitchen equipped at all times, and we will improve and renew all the equipment for the upcoming season. the fridge is already renewed, it was really the end of the rainy season and a result of humidity conditions. Regarding the blanket, we do not hold blankets, not even for ourselves. here we are lucky to have only hot climate that for sure does not require blankets, no one uses them here, only cover sheets. I can't help it if a costumer freezes the house with AC... Thank you for your feedback and we do hope to see you with us again!

  my husband and i stayed at kana mar for our honeymoon and it really is exactly what the owners say it is. a beautiful villa in santa teresa. it is modern and quaint with everything you need. there are lots of areas to relax indoors and outdoors. there is an outdoor shower in a private fenced in garden. it is in a friendly newly developed neighborhood of young families located 5 minutes from the beach. seriously. you walk down to the road, cross the road and there is a sandy pathway with palm trees overhead, leading you directly to the ocean. there is an excellent surf break at this location of the beach specifically. at night we could hear the ocean. it is pretty much right in the middle of santa teresa. very close to the center, playa carmen. around the corner from our wicked house at kana mar, we had so many restaraunts to choose from! our favorite, a small bakery cafe called zwart with the best gallo pinto buirrito we've ever had and the most gigantic tropical fruit, yogurt and home made granola i have ever had. delicious. they also have delicious coffee.the staff will make you feel at home. you can rent surf boards and bicycles or buy bikinis within a 10 minute walk from the property. the owners hooked us up with a pro surfer from isreal, who picked us up in the morning from the house and took us to his surf school, Del Soul to teach us how to surf. he was an incredible teacher, the best in town we later heard. it was so much fun! we fell in love with surfing from that day forward. the sunsets were incredible. so was the full moon. it lit up the whole town!sometimes there was live music at night. if u dont feel like going out there are a few groccery stores and a liquor store nearby. the owners of kana mar, will welcome you as if you are guests in their own home. i miss them actually. they gave us our privacy, but they were a phone call away if we needed anything. we felt safe and comfortable in our friendly neighborhood and with our friendly neighbors. there is also a night time guard who was so nice and was always there. i would reccomend kana mar to any couple, looking to have a true costa rican experience. you may not have a buffet three times a day, but even better you will feel at home. you will make friends. you will love every restaraunt, and most of all you will love the beauty that is santa teresa. if you are looking for privacy and comfort for two, kana mar if for you. just bring your own pillows:)we can not wait to go back and unlock the d
