I've stayed at the Thunder Lodge several times over the last two years and have always had a pleasant relaxing time. It's especially fun in the off season, when it's not too crowded. Cottonwood hot springs is right up the road, and easy access. A new owner has recently taken over, and they are a very kind and accommodating family that wants to make sure that you are happy with your stay there. They bent over backwards for us several times to get us bedding and kitchen supplies that were not readily available in our cabin. The cabins are roomy and cozy, with a full kitchen and separate bedrooms. Highly recommended.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 4/5

We were very happy with our decision to stay at Thunder Lodge in Buena Vista. We were looking for a place in Colorado with lots of fun things to do, but with prices that cater to our budget. So many Colorado cities are so touristy and overpriced, we were happy to find a cheaper option. The cabin was roomy and comfortable, and had great mountain views! They also have BBQ grills, and we enjoyed using the little kitchen and BBQ to cook dinner and breakfast. The cabins could be updated to be more stylish, but it had everything we needed, and we aren't picky about decor, and we aren't the kind of people who spend much of our trips indoors anyway. We liked that the cabins felt like they were out in nature, but were close enough to town for us to walk to nearby bars, restaurants, and a small park. During our stay, we enjoyed whitewater rafting, hiking and fishing at Cottonwood Lake, taking beautiful pictures, horseback riding through mountains and streams, and enjoying some tasty Mexican food at the Coyote Cantina at Johnson Village, a few minutes from Buena Vista. If you are looking for an inexpensive mountain adventure, Buena Vista and Thunder Lodge are exactly what you are looking for!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 5/5

We found this wonderful place by searching Buena Vista on the web. We were absolutely delighted. The new owners were very gracious and welcoming. The cabins are so nice and comfortable. The rates were fantastic for the weekend. There were so many nice touches, like flannel sheets and a box of goodies. We saw deer everyday right by the cabins and so enjoyed the solitude. We would recommend this stay for a nice Buena Vista welcome. Oh, one of the best parts is they accepted our dog as family!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

We love Thunder lodge! The cabins are so cute and comfy. Especially if you have little ones. Much better than a hotel! The owners were very helpful with directions and making sure we had everything for a great stay. They even loaned us their kids sled so we could have a day of fun! The little town is so nice and so beautiful. We traveled all around Colorado on our Vacation and I'd have to say Buena Vista was the prettiest. Breathtaking!! And all the people were really friendly. If you are lucky enough to meet Jake (91 years old) tell him Kim from Austin Texas say's "Hi". I can't wait to visit thunder lodge again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

I loved the place ..go to the website..it has small quaint cabins located 10-15 minutes from everything. The owners were gracious host and felt like I was visiting family. I went all four seasons and the stays were to die for. I do not know how to convey the true down home feeling I got staying there.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

We drove in from the Springs on Hwy 24 into Buena Vista. The fall color was a brilliant golden yellow! We stayed the weekend at Thunder Lodge, a beautiful lodge right on Cottonwood Creek. We stayed in cabin 7 and had to sleep with our windows open even though it was chilly at night. The sound of the creek running next to our cabin was so peaceful and relaxing. We spent the days hiking and four wheeling. We had a wonderful weekend. The cabins are large with two bedrooms and kitchen. We are looking forward to skiing at Ski Cooper and staying at Thunder Lodge again!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2009
About the owner: We stayed here on a Art Tour, fell in love with the property, the mountains and the small Mayberry-look-alike town. We have been coming to Colorado since we were both kids. We both love the outdoors, nature and all the activities associated with the mountains. We are from Texas and want everyone to make Thunder Lodge their family's vacation destination for many generations to come.
Why the Owner Chose Buena Vista:
We traveled all over Colorado looking for the "perfect location". We stayed at here at Thunder lodge and wrote a contract for it the next day. All the seasons of the year are magical, the location is central to all activities, and you have to come experience it yourself to truly understand. Buena Vista is the OUTDOOR MECCA OF COLORADO.
