Excellent place to stay while in Kona

Guest: Sylvie A.
Date of Stay: 04/24/12 Review Submitted: 05/09/12

We love going to the Big Island and this was our first time booking a privately owned condo not part of a resort or timeshare. We loved it a lot that we had our privacy. The lanai was tons of outdoors space where we enjoyed watching geckos while the birds chirped. The condo was very clean and comfy and felt like home. It was well equipped with everything. We loved being across the street from White Sand Beach and a short drive from great snorkeling location ( can't remember the name of the beach). Although the complex has a nice pool and communal area, we did not spend much time there - we love exploring the Island and it's beaches too much to stay by the pool. We plan to return to the Big Island in a couple of years and would definitely stay there again if available. Thank you Steve and family for sharing your condo with us.

The best!

This was our second stay at Steve's condo and while the first stay was perfect, this was even better with all the new furniture, TVs and fancy washer and dryer. The location is great~ just walk across the street at the end of the day to watch the boogie boarders and sunset, a few minutes north into Kona Town, or a few minutes south to Kahalu'u snorkling beach or the grocery store. The condo is so well stocked you can leave a bunch of luggage at home. There is an ice chest, beach towels, snorkle and beach gear, mats and beach chairs. We have fun jsut relaxing at the condo, after a morning of snorkling, just enjoying the lanai~ it's the best! Fun to watch the wild parrots from the lanai too. The frig has filtered ice and chilled water, on the door, which is nice as Kona water leaves something to be desired :) One last feature we love are all the sliding doors which we leave open day and night for a nice cross breeze. The condo has AC but it isn't needed and the fresh beach air is wonderful! This is a great place to stay for your relaxing Big Island vacation, and it is such a bargain. It has loacation, great bed and linens, soft towels, great furnishings, and Steve is wonderful to work with to make it an easy experience. I can't recommend it enough!

Perfect vacation get-away!

Date of Stay: 01/15/12 Review Submitted: 02/08/12

Wonderful experience! The condo felt like being at home. Everything we needed for a great experience was provided - snorkling equipment, boogie boards, beach chairs and mats were put to use as we played at the beautiful beach right across the street. The kitchen was well-stocked with utensils, dishes and cooking pans. The unit was clean and bright and we appreciated all the clean linens. Washer/dryer was a great plus. Quiet neighbors, nice pool and hot tub, HUGH lanai made for an unforgettable experience. We will request this unit again! Thank you, Steve and VRBO!

A wonderful place to stay

Guest: Louise and boys (Edmonton, Canada)
Date of Stay: 12/30/11 Review Submitted: 01/10/12

We just returned from 8 nights at Steve's condo in Kona and it was amazing! The fridge was equipped with an ice maker and water tap, all amenities in Kitchen were great. Soap in bathrooms and laundry soap for washing machine was very helpful, we only bought extra toilet paper. The boogie boards and beach chairs and beach mats, beach towels and toys were loved by all. The double Lanai was like an extra room and the privacy was great to have with the palm trees and blinds to keep out some of the sun. We could hear the ocean waves crashing as we slept with all 4 sliding doors open, and woke up to the birds singing in the morning. I would definitely recommend this place for families or couples, Louise and boys

Terrific Place to Stay on the Big Island

Guest: Webbie (Berkeley, CA)
Date of Stay: 12/15/11 Review Submitted: 12/25/11

We had a great week in Steve's condo. It is spacious, had a nice kitchen (refrigerator dispenses ice :-), comfy beds (two twins in second bedroom, which my kids prefer), flat screen, boogie boards, fins, beach mats, a great guide book, two bathrooms, huge porch, ceilings fan (We hardly used the air conditioning, but it's there if you need it.), friendly staff at White Sands Village, and Steve was great. A really quiet location, and right across the street from a great beach, especially for boogie boarding. We'd go back tomorrow!

perfect location at white sands beach!

Guest: A. (San Diego, CA)
Date of Stay: 11/08/11 Review Submitted: 11/17/11

Myself and 3 friends recently stayed at this property, and it was fantastic. Beds were comfortable--even the sofa sleeper! The lanai was the best feature, it's huge. Being on the corner allowed for nice breezes through the condo--we never had to use the air conditioning. The trunk full of beach accessories was also put to good use. It's close but not too close to town--we didn't have a rental car, but it was not a problem at all. You can hop on the free trolley, or a cab averaged about $10. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone looking for a place to stay in Kona. Steve is friendly and responds promptly to any questions.

Great Place!

Guest: Stephen (Oakland, CA)
Date of Stay: 08/23/11 Review Submitted: 09/04/11

What a great place to stay for my first time in Hawaii, and right across from a heavy-hitting-wave beach! Steve was great and quick at responding for information, and our stay was top-notch and well-priced. The condo had everything we could want: guidebooks, snorkeling gear (definitely recommended!), a decently stocked kitchen, and a wrap-around lanai with lots of good snuggle-and-read-a-book furniture that is lit up by string-lights at night. The only negative was that the pool was closed at the last second before we came with little notice, and the construction noise was pretty bad in the mornings. Otherwise, for all the stuff that was within the condo's control, job well done and thanks for the great vacation!

Great Condo in Kona!

Guest: Ssan (Boulder, Colorado)
Date of Stay: 08/14/11 Review Submitted: 08/22/11

My family of four just came back from two weeks in Hawaii (August 2011). Our second week was spent in Kona at this condo. This is a great condo. Much bigger then I expected. It had all the needed extras to make our vacation, easy and enjoyable (boogie boards, mask and snorkels, beach chairs, etc.). I wish the condo we stayed at in Maui had all these extras!! The master bedroom king bed is very comfortable. The location is great. My boys enjoyed boogie boarding at White Sands Beach. By the end of the week a few local boys were "hangng" together and boarding! We enjoyed the swimming and snorkleing in the cove areas. It has easy parking, a great bbq area and pool for late night swims. It was hard to come home :)

Enjoyed our stay at Steve's nicely appointed, comfortable, spacious Kona condo. Six of us had plenty of personal space, beds very comfortable! Best boogie boarding beach (complete with turtles) was just across the street from the complex. Enjoyed the on-property tennis courts, swimming pool and pool table. Newly installed flat screen TVs and wireless internet service kept us entertained, modern washer and dryer in unit very handy! Snorkeling gear and boogie boards were put to good use. Posted photos do not do property justice!! Unit and property were very quiet during our stay. Strongly recommend this unit--would stay here again in the future!

Very nice condo in quiet area. Beach directly across the street. Very nice pool and facilities. Parking for 2 cars. Property was clean and updated. Master bath needs some work but understandable for a condo near the beach. Would gladly stay there again. Owner very helpful.

Steve, Thank you so much for the rental of your lovely condo. The location was great, the kids walked to the beach every day while we planned our activities. There was everything we needed available, we used the kitchen every day and the grill was a nice option. The kids used the body boards everyday and had a blast! The condo was clean and we were glad to have all of the space on the lanai to eat and spread out and relax! This was also a very quiet location away from the road noise as well as not too many stairs. There were guide books available for our use as well as a good selection of reading material. Our kids were very happy for the use of the wi-fi with computers, Ipods, game systems etc but we were so busy they didn't have much time to use them! We are very frequent travelers and would definately reccommend this condo to anyone we know traveling to the big island. We only wish we had more time there! Thank you again! Mahalo! Kelly & Mike

Perfect condo for a family vacation. Very comfortable and clean. Lots of windows and cross breezes. Loved the lanai and the super comfy patio furniture. We like to bike and run and this was a perfect location for us. Only one flight of stairs to carry bikes up and secure large lanai to store them. Also found the complex - pool area, BBQ and gardens nicely maintained. Evident that the owners take pride in the property. If any one is interested in renting bikes - we had a great experience with Kona Bikeworks.

Spacious, Comfortable Condo at a Great Price

Guest: Theresa (Durham, NC)
Date of Stay: 03/03/11 Review Submitted: 03/18/11

We were very pleased with our stay at Steve's condo in the White Sands Village. The unit is very spacious with lots of room both inside and out. We were a group of 4 adults, and we found the condo to be just right for our needs. The beds in both bedrooms (including one that was a king made from two twins) were very comfortable, the two bathrooms made it easy for our entire group to get ready, and the washer and dryer were welcome. Steve has done an excellent job of outfitting the condo with everything you could need. The kitchen is well-stocked; there are plenty of bath towels (plus really nice beach towels); and the chest on the lanai is overflowing with everything you could need for the beach from coolers to flippers and snorkels to toys to beach chairs. I wish we had had more time to enjoy it all. The lanai is huge and comfortably furnished. It doesn't really have any ocean view, but we were hardly ever there during daylight hours so we wouldn't have been able to enjoy it anyway. The unit is at the far end of the first building, away from the ocean and the pool (though both are very close), and it's nice and quiet with no traffic noise or noise from neighboring units. It's a couple of miles south of the really busy section of Ali'i Drive, which we liked. It was a short drive to restaurants etc. but removed from the traffic. Also great access to good snorkeling complete with friendly turtles. I should also mention that Steve is very easy to make arrangements with and responds quickly to inquiries. The only negative (and a small one) with the condo was that when all four of us would shower right after one another, the last person would have warm but not hot water. All in all, a great stay. The price is fantastic for what you get, and we'd definitely stay here again.

Our Kona week

Guest: Susie (Oregon)
Date of Stay: 01/27/11 Review Submitted: 02/10/11

We, myself and my husband and my brother and his wife, all enjoyed our week at White Sands Village very much. From there we went snorkeling and kayaking. The snorkeling beach is a short 3/4 mile walk away. My brother and I rented bikes and got in 2 long rides and some short ones. The condo is very comfortable and the pool is great. The only thing negative is that the coffee pot didn't work and we didn't receive a replacement. I would recommend this condo to a friend. A wonderful place to vacation.

This is a very well equipped condo south of the maiin part of town in an area that is w/o traffic jams. My wife and I only used one of the two bedrooms, but found it exceedingly comfortable. The owner is very helpful and for us he provided additional lamps so that we might read in the livingroom and bedroom. If we were planning on returning to Kona or Hawaii, we would certainly want to stay here again.

This condo is in a perfect location, and we think it has the best spot in the building. The lanai is lovely and wraps around the back corner and is so pretty and cool. The suite is nicely appointed and accomodated our 5 family members easily. Parking is really convenient to the suite and easy to access from the street. The complex is central to the beaches, town and close to the highway to "get out of town". This is definitely one of our favourite spots.

Date of Stay: 11/16/10 Review Submitted: 12/06/10

If you are staying in Kona, this condo is an excellent choice. There are very few beaches in Kona, making White Sands a perfect location. Right by the beach park with a lifeguard, bathrooms, showers, picnic tables and volleyball. It is a good mix of locals and vacationers alike. If you like to boogie board, planning your trip during a full moon makes for HUGE waves! (worked for us anyway) The condo is on the first level above the parking garage. (There is an elevator if needed) Very private with beautiful palms to shield you from the parking area, yet still leaving a small view of the ocean. And yes, you can hear the waves crashing from the lanai! The condo was found to be better than pictured on the vrbo site (cute furniture), which was a nice surprise! I loved the dining set! The second bedroom is usually two twin beds, but were put together as a King size bed with an extra mattress pad. This was GREAT! I actually forgot that it wasn't a King bed until a week into our vacation! Really nice sheets and bedding, lots of extra pillows and blankets too. We also loved the outside futon which was great for naps or even sleeping at night. There were so many supplies that we used - snorkle gear, fins, reef shoes, beach toys, a cooler, mats, boogie boards, extra large (and thick) beach towels and plenty of books to read. The onsite staff were very nice, as was the pool, hot tub and and grilling area. The hallways were a bit dingy and could use some fresh paint and carpeting, but at the price we paid there really wasn't anything to complain about. The bathrooms were a little dated as well, but again, it wasn't a concern. Roomy, comfortable, AWESOME LOCATION and everything you could need! My favorite book on Hawaii was there too - The Big Island Revealed. Mahalo for a wonderful place to stay during our vacation!

Best Spot in Kona

Guest: Teddy (Folsom, CA)
Date of Stay: 11/09/10 Review Submitted: 11/18/10

This was our first condo experience and it was great. The condo was as described, fully equipped and in one of the best locations in the building. Most units have small lanaiis, this unit's wrap-around lanaii was huge with comfortable furnishings that just invited you to stay awhile. We only went out for dinner three times because it was so nice staying at the condo. We did enjoy walking over to White Sands Beach to watch the boogie boarders and going down the street for snorkeling. We spent time in Kailua-Kona shopping and learning some Hawaiian history. Then we took day trips north stopping at beaches along the way to Hawi, Waimea, and Waipio Valley, one of most beautiful places on the islands, and south to the Captain Cook Monument and to the City of Refuge. We stayed for one week and wished we could have stayed longer. The owner was available and very helpful.

Hi Steve My friend, his daughter and I have rented the condo at White Sands Village from July 8 to July 15, 2010 . I would like to let you know that we had a wonderful and great time in Kona and on the island. The condo, unit 112, is part of it . To be honest, we were wondering if it would be as the photos on the Internet where upon our arrival we were very pleased and we appreciated that it is as advertized. The unit is amazingly well kept and very well situated. The condo is so well equipped, comfortable, clean and quiet; it has made our stay very enjoyable. We enjoyed every minute of it, thanks to you. Next time we are in Kona, we will go back to that condo and also we will recommend it to our friends and families. Thanks again. Mahalo. Regards Roger N. Ottawa, Ontario Canada

We've stayed in a lot of places in the islands and this is the best ever! The wrap around lanai is the best part, or it could be all the huge glass doors that allow for a cooling breeze all day and night, or maybe it was the luxury bedding and towels, new bed and Hawaiian furniture... no, I think it was the patio furniture sets, one for breakfast, one soft cushions for games and a futon for sleeping outside on the lanai. No wait, I think the best part was the location; a bit out of town, but by the beach, and quiet. But it could be the ease of dealing with Steve, the box of toys for the beach, along with the ice chest and big beach towels~ really, what have they not thought of? Great place, hope you're not in it when we want to rent it again!

My husband and I stayed in this unit for 2 weeks, our son was with us for one of them. We had seen this condo for sale last year while snooping out real-estate, and it was the top of our list. The condo is very comfortable and welcoming, clean and spacious. The huge private lanai adds another 2 rooms. The location is superb, close to the beach, but away from the swimming pool noises. The kitchen is well equipped although we rarely used it - lots of good restaurants nearby! The beach is beautiful, the snorkeling is excellent, but be sure to watch the waves - they can be unpredictable and dangerous at times - but the lifeguards are excellent, and there's a group of "beach boys" always hanging about watching things and ready to help out. Listen to what they tell you! There's a good selection of beach "toys" for the older crowd (no pails or shovels). The covered parking is a treat, the car was always shaded and cool. We had friends staying in another condo in the same building, and we were pleased with the comparisons between units. Steve was very helpful and informative. We will be back next year, and hopefully for some years to come. Thanks Steve, - Ross, Lorna and Evan

It is always wonderful to go to Hawaii and practically live on the lanai and yours is just so big and roomy. One of my daughters decided to sleep on the futon on the covered lanai so that she could enjoy the open air and the sound of the waves. This rental was wonderful and wonderfully priced!

The condo was very clean and well-maintained. The owner was very helpful in answering my questions before arrival. I will definitely recommend this property to a friend AND a relative. There are many activities (ie. whale watching, ocean swimming, snorkeling, beach and pool sunbathing, etc. that I would recommend. Also, we found a great place for lunch after church on Sundays--U- Top It. All in all, we had a great time in and around the condo and especially on the huge lanai.

Steve, Thank you for opening your well furnished and tastefully decorated condo to our family of four thru VRBO. The condo’s location is spectacular. We went for a jog each morning at sunrise along Ali'i Drive most places just feet from the ocean stopping to watch whales spouting and breaching our first two mornings. Then had breakfast out on the large private lanai… fresh fruit purchased at the nearby farmers market. We spent the days at beaches swimming with sea turtles and abundant tropical fish, all within walking distance or short drive from the condo. In the evening we prepared dinner on one of the 3 large BBQ grills in the courtyard, they were a great place to compare notes on local attractions with other guests, everyone was so friendly. We built a lot of great family memories and would return right now if we could. Mahalo Mark & Karen
