Location: Deer Isle, Acadia, Maine, USA (The Islands of Deer Isle near Acadia Nat. Park & Bar Harbor)
Accommodations: House, 4 Bedrooms, 2 Baths (Sleeps 8)
Step back in time to our family's summer home built in 1890 by Charles Parker of Boston. He envisioned a salt water farm and he built a four bedroom, New England Cape, a boat house, and a stable. My grandfather, Gerald Warner Brace purchased the estate from the Parker family in 1935 and my family has summered here ever since.
The property is an entire point of land (Parker Point) with 830 feet of deep water frontage and two private beaches. The house faces west with an incredible, panoramic view of East Penobscot Bay all the way to Camden Hills. Yachts, schooners, and working lobster boats pass by daily. Many people feel that this spot is one of the loveliest on the entire coast.
My grandfather, Gerald Warner Brace, was a teacher, writer, artist, and sailor. Many of his ship models and paintings are displayed throughout the house and his novels line our bookshelves. He was devoted to New England and the coast of Maine in particular. He wrote about life on the coast and the view from this property inspired many of his stories.
The four bedroom, main house includes a wonderful screened porch facing the sea where guests can dine leisurely on lobster as they watch the most spectacular sunsets on the coast of Maine.
The estate remains relatively unchanged since it was built in 1890 and most of the furnishings and house wares are the original ones conveyed with the sale in 1935. Nearly every where one looks in the home or on the property, there is a piece of the past with a story behind it. It's not unlike visiting a private museum. No matter what you may be escaping from, you will find sanctuary here.
