Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

5 adults stayed here for a family wedding, choosing it based on location, reviews, off street parking and pictures. the home lived up to all the rave reviews. it is beautifully furnished, ideally situated, and incredibly quiet! our party was hours late arriving due to flight issues, and the cowens were very accommodating leaving us with wonderful snacks. the kitchen worked well, and how special to have the garden to look out over. we would recommend this place for anyone traveling to san fran.Recommended for: Sightseeing

I stayed at Suzanne's and Jim's house with my family. We were visiting my cousin, who lives in the neighborhood. The house was really great and cozy, it really felt like home! We had a great family time! The house is well equipped and the owners reallyattentive to the details and information (they have a complete manual/guide) that made our stay even more pleasant! We really enjoyed and recommend the place!Recommended for: Families with young children, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

We truly enjoyed our stay at Jim and Suzanne's victorian home. It was ideally situated for all of our needs and the driveway parking was so convenient. There were 5 adults in our party and the sleeping accommodations were very comfortable and clean. The home is very clean and well maintained. We enjoyed having a kitchen where we could purchase breakfast items and enjoy a full breakfast before starting our day exploring San Francisco. I would highly recommend this VRBO property because it is proven and many others have enjoyed their stay there too. Thanks to Jim and Suzanne for their hospitality, free wifi and loads of towels and sheets. It was a home away from home for our family.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

My family and I had the privilege of staying at Large & Lovely Victorian in the Heart of San Francisco. The owners gave us a really warm welcome, including lots of excellent advice and information, and delicious sour dough bread and cheese. The house is spotless, extremely roomy and easily slept the five of us in its three bedrooms over two floors. There are several living rooms and a welcoming and well equipped eat-in kitchen that overlooks a beautiful garden. Three bathrooms also means no arguments or waiting. The house is furnished impeccably and nothing is lacking. We found it hard to leave to go sight seeing as it was such a comfortable place to be. But once we did leave, we found that we were extremely centrally located. We had a rental car and it seemed that nothing was much further than a 15 minute drive away. There is off-street parking, which is a great advantage as well. For anyone looking for a central, beautiful home for a family, to rent from really delightful people, this is the place. This is the fourth time we have rented a home through VRBO - we have always been successful, and this home is certainly a high scorer.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Stayed for 10 days at the Cowan’s property for my daughter’s wedding. Friendly and helpful owners. Charming well appointed pristine home in a residential neighborhood with a beautiful garden. Perfect location. We walked to the Japanese Garden, De Young Museum and Alamo Square. Went all over the city using either bus 5 or 21. Had amazing dinner twice at the Bistro Central Parc and grocery shopped at Lucky’s. Made our memorable stay in San Francisco even more enjoyable. Highly recommend.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

This was our first time to rent a house away from home and it was a great experience. The home is conveniently located, spacious and welcoming. Jim and Suzanne were there to greet us and offered helpful advice. We went with my 80 year old mother who was not up to all the walking and sightseeing we did but stayed comfortably and happily at the house enjoying the beautiful view of the garden, peaceful neighborhood and the great selection of cookbooks. We definitely recommend this lovely Victorian home for any occasion. San Francisco is such a beautiful city with so much to see and do and staying here made it much more fun and enjoyable.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

My family and I spent a wonderful week in San Francisco this past June. Jim and Suzanne's home was perfect for us. We like to have plenty of room to spread out and their home had plenty of that. The neighborhood was very quiet and safe. As we walked to the grocery store several times, we felt just like the locals. We will think of their home as our San Francisco home, as this is how we felt during our stay. Jim and Suzanne were very gracious hosts and we would like to thank them very much for sharing their beautiful home.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.

I wanted you both to know how much we enjoyed staying at your home. It met our needs completely because of the 2 levels and having the upstairs for our gatherings was wonderful; Our family felt at home and truly enjoyed the stay. The kitchen is so bright and was wonderful for breakfasts and other meals. The location was great with the muni close by; Luckys grocery had everything we needed and your restaurant recommendation was helpful. Thank for having a resource book for activities because it provided lots of info on what else we may want to do. We would definately come back here!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.
Owner response: Dear Lois, Many thanks for posting such a lovely review. We also appreciated receiving the wedding pictures. Your family looked great and the little girls were totally charming in their new dresses! We're very pleased that we contributed to making your celebration a happy one and look forward to your next visit with pleasure. All best, Jim & Suzanne

In early February, 5 members of our family stayed at Jim and Suzanne's Victorian for 6 nights. We arrived to find a very beautiful, clean and comfortable, well-maintained home, that accomodated us very well. It was so pleasant to come home to it in the evenings, or take a rest during the afternoons. We appreciated and admired the art pieces and the very tasteful way the house was decorated. The kitchen was very well outfitted, and there was a lovely garden out back. It was a great atmosphere in which to visit with our extended family - we each had our private spaces, but could come together for long chats in the kitchen or sitting in the parlor with the homey gas stove. Jim and Suzanne couldn't have been nicer. They greeted us when we came, told us all about the house and the neighborhood, and answered our many questions. They have compiled huge books with resources, maps, interesting things to do in the city, and great restaurants. The neighborhood is very lovely, safe-feeling, filled with beautiful San Francisco architecture and good restaurants. The house was represented accurately on VRBO, and we would certainly stay there again. In fact, I have just recommended it to friends who will be visiting the city in April. My only suggestion would be that perhaps a mattress topper could be provided for the futon-type mattress on the lower level - it was hard to sleep on for more than a few nights. Thank you, Suzanne and Jim, for a wonderful experience, and a comfy home away from home.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.
Owner response: Dear Helen, David and company, What a lovely review--Thanks so much for your kind words! We are very proud of our city and community, and take great pleasure in sharing them with visitors like you. We're happy that you felt at home here, just as we would want to feel when traveling. We hope to see you in the future and will warmly welcome your friends! All best wishes, Jim & Suzanne P.S. Guess what: We got the mattress topper!! It is on the futon right now and will stay there for future guests.

The house is very well presented and equipped. It has everything you might need for a long stay. It is also close to several very good restaurants - in particular the French one directly across the street. It is not in the heart of the tourist area but public transport is only two blocks away and several areas - the Haight and Golden Gate Park - are within easy walking distance. The owners provided lots of local information and guides.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

Great location just a block away from the supermarket and bus service to downtown and very close to main routes for out of city destinations (Muir, Sausalito, Napa ...) The house was very clean and had all the amenities. It was also located in a safe and quiet neighborhood. The owners were very friendly and helpful with travel info and suggestions. A great place to stay if you're heading to San Francisco.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

Our party of five spent several days at Jim and Suzanne's property. We had plenty of space and found the location convienient for transportation, dining, and grocery shopping. Prior to our arrival, Jim and Suzanne were helpful in providing general instructions on little things that would make our stay more enjoyable. We would definitely stay here again. The pictures and description of the property are accurate, your stay will be even better! My only advise to those visiting the area for the first time, bring clothes that can be layered, and comfortable walking shoes.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.
Owner response: Many thanks for your kind words, Jackie! Excellent advice about the clothing--many visitors don't realize that San Francisco can be rather chilly, even in summer, so it's best to be prepared. We're very happy that you enjoyed your stay here and hope you'll visit again soon! All best, Jim & Suzanne

My husband, two daughters, and grandson were able to all be together in beautiful San Francisco last month to attend another grandson's first birthday celebration. We all stayed in Jim and Suzanne's well-appointed 3-bedroom home for 9 days, and enjoyed the home's proximity to everything! The nearby Muni stop, Golden Gate Park and the museums, excellent local cafes and restaurants were all within easy walking distance. In addition, we were able to cook many of our meals at home in the large, homey kitchen, thanks to the convenient Lucky supermarket located just two blocks away! Jim and Suzanne met with our daughter (the first of our party to arrive), and even gave her a personal tour of the home and answered any questions she had, and were always available by phone to answer any other queries we had while there. We highly recommend this home in its friendly, vibrant NoPa neighborhood!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Hello, Anne & John, Thanks so much for your thoughtful review of our home. We are indeed lucky to live in the heart of the city, so close to everything! In fact, we rarely use our own car, and it is nice to be able to assure visitors that they can get around quite well on foot and by public transportation. San Francisco is certainly a great city for walking. We are very grateful that you chose our home for your recent stay. Although the weather was hardly cooperative, your grandson's birthday must have been a ray of sunshine! We enjoyed meeting Arabella and young Titus. Please don't hesitate to get in touch with us if you plan a future visit here: it would be our pleasure to welcome you. All best wishes, Jim & Suzanne

Our family just celebrated my mother's 90th birthday at this charming home in San Francisco! I can't think of enough superlatives to describe our stay. The owners had fresh flowers on the table, coffee in the coffee maker and snacks to begin our visit. Before renting, I called the owners with a few questions because of my mother's age, and they were honest and helpful. When we arrived, they had a personal note for us and a notebook which explained the local restaurants, bus lines and nearby shopping. The house reflects the diverse interests of the owners and is truly a home away from home. I would highly recommend this property, and we plan to return to it ourselves.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Hello Deedie, Thanks so much for your kind and generous review! It makes us very happy that you found or home enjoyable, as well as practical, and that it provided a nice setting for your special family event. It was our a pleasure to meet your family, even if very briefly. We'd be delighted if you could stay here next time you visit. Then, perhaps we could also meet your children--our neighbors! Until then, all best wishes for a lovely spring and happy travels. Jim and Suzanne

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Cowan's Victorian in San Francisco. The home is clean, warm and well situated. French Bistro across the street, a gourmet grocery, or a Luckey's two blocks away. They shared their well stocked kitchen. There is a warm south facing bay window in the living room with a beautiful garden out back. This rental includes parking and public transit just two blocks away. You can walk (run) to Golden Gate Park and hike in Buena Vista. We definitey enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning some day.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

The home is even more beautiful in person than in the pictures - large rooms, lots of light and the owners were so welcoming. The garden is just gorgeous and so restful after a day in the city. We were able to get to both downtown and Golden Gate Park easily by bus. There are cute cafes and restaurants in walking distance. We were only there for a short stay this time but hope to be back soon! This was a great home base for our family trip.
