This gorgeous, cedar-sided, 3/4-bedroom home is newly built and has all the charm and character of a classic Maine island home. Located on Long Island, a low-key fishing and lobstering community in Casco Bay, this family-friendly home is situated on one-and-a-half fenced-in private acres.

The home includes a well-stocked kitchen, combination dining and living room, and a separate TV room with a flat-screened TV. The living room has a fireplace and bookshelves filled with books and the TV room is stocked with plenty of DVDs and VHSs for the whole family. On the first floor there is a bedroom with a full-size bed and a full-bath. Upstairs are two bedrooms and a full-bath. The children’s room has two twin beds and an attached playroom with a full-size futon and plenty of games. This room can also be a fourth bedroom if needed.

One of our best features is our location! We are a five-minute walk from the ferry landing, a one minute walk to the newest cafe on the island, Captain Perry's. We are also a three to four minute walk to both general stores, and a ten-minute walk to the best beach in Casco Bay! Down the street is our post office. Around the corner is a Bed and Breakfast/Restaurant, a library and school yard with playground, and basketball and tennis courts.

Long Island has beautiful conservation trails, perfect for biking or long walks, fishing, a lobster pound, and on a clear evening, sunsets over Mount Washington. Frequent ferry service to Portland gives you access to superb restaurants, movie theaters, shopping, Freeport and L.L.Bean, an art museum, children’s museum and much more.

We (2 adults, 2 teenagers) were very cozy and comfortable in this island home and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Bedrooms, Living room were very nice. The house is convenient to the ferry and the best beaches in Maine are a pleasant 10-15 minute walk away. Tennis, Basketball and town library/community center are even closer. House is very quiet, clean and with the modern conveniences. Visitors should note that this home is on well/septic and you should not expect municipal water pressure but it is entirely acceptable. (By the way, the tap water is delicious and you don't need to buy/bring water to the island!) Easy trip back to Portland for day trips to "civilization". Portland grocery stores will deliver food to the island for a very nominal charge - this worked quite well for us (we used Whole Foods). Long Island is a wonderful community with lots of "small town" charm and activities - you will be very welcome to join in if you choose. Highly recommended!

Though the ad for this house notes parking is available, with the implication that a car is an option, note Long Island doesn't easily let cars on island. The owner doesn't reveal this until she gets paid. Not a problem for us but a heads up in the ad would be nice! House is on a large lot, a lot of it not accessible & quite a jungle. Part that is available is pretty nice, though like the rest of this house w/ good bones could use some TLC and upkeep. Tools were strewn everywhere & left out to rust, which always burns me a bit, but seemed symptomatic of the owner's attitude about the house we thought. House is not really a 3 to 4 bedroom. There's a small room with twin beds w/ connecting room with a futon. Worst is the 1st floor bedroom: could be very nice but bedsprings protruded through one side of the mattress of the 3/4 size bed (too short for me & I'm 5'9"). Every time we moved the bed squawked & stuck us. My partner ended up in a twin bed on the second floor, both of which were quite good. 2nd fl bed is in fact full and adequate. The first floor bathroom is tiny. The seal on the toilet leaked we discovered after the floor got inexplicably wet all week. Water pressure is feeble on first and almost nonexistent on second, where the bath is spacious but the tub/shower dirty & slow to drain. In general the house was neither clean nor well maintained: dryer vent & vent hose in basement were badly clogged, not cleaned for a long time if ever, & vent hose pulled out of the wall spewing dirt everywhere. The outside lint filter was/is clogged as well. Wet linens mildewed in dryer when we arrived. Clogged lint filter a huge fire hazard so should be rectified & maintained henceforth. Bannister to second floor was loose, shaky. Many lights were out both inside & out, & we had to search to find light bulbs tucked away behind box on basement stairs, a basic thing owners should do. Oddly, many clocks & clock radios were plugged into switch outlets, so they were not working, then working, until again we to this figured out. The kitchen is hardly gourmet, more fancy Pullman. BTW faucet handle complained about by others still comes off. Much crud in all but the most obvious places. For a owner concerned about water usage, there's no DW. Oddly stocked. Good knives. No cooking bowls. Good stove. No exhaust or light. Entire house needs serious cleaning. Owner responded but didn't remedy complaint. Long Island is awesome & very friendl

This home offered everything we needed for our family vacation. It is a short walk to three beautiful beaches, as well as to island stores and the library. We spent our days collecting sea glass, climbing along the rocky outcroppings, jumping in the water, and building sand castles. We returned home to cook pasta, play board games, watch movies and read books. On the cooler evenings, we built a fire in the fireplace; on warm afternoons we lounged in the hammock and chatted with friends on the screened porch. The owners provided helpful information. They were warm, welcoming, and highly responsive. We hope to come back again.

We have stayed on Long Island in this house for two years running. The Island, the beaches, the house, and the yard are all perfect for us. If you like hustle and bustle, something exciting at every turn, keep looking. This island, this house are peace incarnate.we love vacationing as a family as a time to enjoy each other, talk, walk, bike, swim, cook, eat, play chess, read. This would be boring for some; it is heaven for us. The house is clean, comfortable, cozy, with ample space for 6. We cook daily at home, going out to eat rarely. This does not change on vacation. The kitchen in this house is easy to use, full on great tools and gadgets. I would email Whole Foods in Portland and they would shop, pack and load the groceries unto the mid afternoon ferry. Fun! If that isn't your idea of fun, there is Captn' Perry's for breakfast, lunch and occasionally dinner and pizza, sandwiches chili and ice cream at the Long Island Market. The owners are delightful; emails back and forth have been so fun. The yard has apple trees, birds and an occasional deer with her fawns. Four wonderful beaches are all within easy walking distance. One cafe, two small (!) markets, the post office and the fabulous library are also close by. If you decide to stay in this cozy hide away, raise a glass (or mug) of your favorite beverage and toast the island for me.

My husband and I took a week long vacation with two other couples and had a wonderful time! The home was the perfect size for the 6 of us and we were able to enjoy big, home cooked meals at the house but also go into Portland and be waited on when we wanted to be pampered. We relaxed on the beach, took walks around the island, and enjoyed lots of wine with good company. Great place for adults looking to get away but also a place I'd come back to with our kids.

My wife and I were looking for a house that would be a good place for us and our kids to spend a nice, quiet week and this house completely exceeded our expectations - it is on a quiet part of the island and is within easy access to all sorts of outdoor activities (bass fishing!). The kids spent hours on the beach, my wife and I enjoyed biking around the island... it is only a short ferry ride into Portland - great shops, good restaurants. Would definitely recommend this house for families or anyone looking for a quiet vacation in a beautiful spot!

This home was a wonderful place for us to stay during our honeymoon. The springtime was an absolutely beautiful time of year to stay in this lovely home. We saw many deer on our long walks around the island. This is a great location for families, couples, friends, and anyone looking for the perfect home with serenity and quiet. The house is fully stocked and in a great location - very close to the beaches. It was a wonderful romantic getaway!

This is an absolutely beautiful house, my family and I had a wonderful vacation here. What was really great about it was how convenient and close it was to everything we needed. It is only a five minute walk to the ferry, about a three minute walk to either of the general stores and a quick ten minutes to one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. The house has a great yard and a nice back patio to grill on. It was very clean and well equip with everything we needed. I would definitely recommend renting this house, I know I will again.

I stayed in this house three years ago when it was owned by the previous owner. I heard the house was for sale then and if my circumstances allowed I would have put in an offer! The description of the house is entirely accurate. It has all amenities your could want, is spacious and comfortable. My husband, brother and I stayed for a week, bought lobsters from a local lobster man and just had a really relaxing week. Our great-grandparents were from Long Island and it is a place we have known all our lives so it felt like 'coming home', and this cottage felt like a real home to come to. I would (will) rent it again! Even though as I live in Yorkshire, England, it isn't a short trip.
