Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2009

I run a mail order business in Sherwood and Amity is a quick 35 minute escape to the country. I wanted to start a vacation rental business where travelers can stay in a SPECTACULAR natural setting and be low impact(cook your own meals to cut down on gas to and from restaurants)
I found this perfect home on Salt Creek in Amity to start my endeavor. I clean the home with non-toxic cleaners and stock it with recycled tissue products. The home was a success as 18 different parties stayed the 1st year. Fall a 2nd home will open in Huson Montana 20 miles from Missoula Airport. It's a 2 bedroom log cabin on 10 forested acres with spring creeks bordering State Forest. The 3rd vacation rental home will be done in a few years. It is 51 acres and 5 bedroom home on Nevada Lake, 75 miles East of Missoula and 45 miles West of Helena. The home sits on hill and meadow with spectacular views of the lake below and Continenal Divide to the East. It's Big Sky country with 25 mile views. There is a road all the way down to the lake to put your boat in. The lake front is sage but most the property is conifers and a rare Aspen Forest. All three properties are exceptional wildlife habitat.

Why the Owner Chose Amity

The home is in a perfect central location in Oregon Wine Country since you don't have to travel far to enjoy sights. There are wineries North, South, East and West and 3 wineries walking distance. It's a short walk to quaint downtown Amity with groceries, restaurants and antique shops. Amity has that small town feel, neighbors are real friendly(they might talk your ear off or tell you the best fishing spot) and it feels like country since it's on Salt Creek and on the other side of the creek is a farm that frames sunsets when weather cooperates. The drive is 50 miles to Portland airport and 72 miles to Eugene Airport. McMinnville is 5 miles North and has a historic downtown, the Evergreen Air Museum and waterslides and all the shopping you need. It is only 30 miles to the historic capital Salem and 45 minutes to the Coast. I think the best feature is you can walk or bike to downtown Amity or Wineries as an alternative to driving.

The Unique Benefits of this House

ALL YOU CAN EAT BLACKBERRIES July-Sept. We enjoy getting away to the country and relaxing to beautiful views and wildlife. It's nice to mostly walk and bike and only use a vehicle to make big shopping trips to McMinnville. The best part of the home is sitting on the back deck drinking coffee mornings watching and listening to song birds...Or evenings hang out with friends drinking wine or microbrews(sorry I'm a lightweight and can't handle wine well) enjoying Salt Creek or intense sunsets.

Pastoral Setting

Date of Stay: 11/25/10 Review Submitted: 11/29/10

We've stayed in many VRBO homes and enjoyed this stay. The pastoral setting of looking over the creek and nearby farm is really wonderful. The house is comfy and has the biggest magazine collection I've ever seen! If you are handicapped, this is not the house for you. All bedrooms are upstairs; living room downstairs. Also, no safety bar @ bath. Bring baking dishes (like cookie sheet). Lots of sleeping room & the Master bed mattress was very, very comfy. Don't be put off by the surrounding neighborhood. This house is the nicest one there & we never heard the neighbors. Our GPS had a dickens of a time finding the house. Just remember to go over the tracks and you'll find it. The rental price is very reasonable -- no cleaning fee - yay!!! And the owners were very, very accommodating.

I was working on a website and needed some quiet space to finish it up before heading North to Portland. I spent 3 nights there and would have stayed longer if not for my deadlines. It was perfect! I saw several beavers swimming in the creek and a huge blue heron while sipping on my coffee out on the back porch. The bedroom I stayed had a beautiful view of the creek too. The house is very new and very clean. It has wifi internet, dish tv, phone, washer and dryer. Perfect for a family or a group of friends visiting the wineries. There was a Mexican restaurant within walking distance and McMinnville was only about 15 minutes away. I'll definitely be staying there again.
