We loved Fish & Chips. It was so easy to go to the beach for any sunrise and then spend the afternoon/evening on the dock for the beautiful sunset. The condo is very roomy with plenty of outdoor space just outside the living room or main bedroom. Kayaking on the sound was great too. We got to crab for the first time...plenty to be caught, but we "crabbed and released"! We are very active, so bicycling everyday was fun. Be sure to take a drive to Harkers Island for a short ferry ride to Cape Lookout...stopping by to see the wild horses on Shackleford Island. This was a great place to stay for active people. If you have trouble with stairs, there are plenty to push you into daily exercise. The main living area at this condo is on the second story with B/Rs on the third. The lower level is the garage area/laundry and bike/kayak/beach storage area. The stairs didn't hinder us at all though.

We had a great week at Fish 'N Chips! We spent a lot of time at the beach (a pretty quick ride on the bikes provided), but we also kayaked, fished, crabbed, and explored. The view from the dock is amazing and sunsets on the sound are gorgeous. The house is well maintained and very comfortable. We enjoyed hanging out on the back porch and looking out over the sound. The owner provides great information prior to arrival and there is a huge binder with local info in the house in which previous guests have left restaurant suggestions, menus, and ideas for things to do in the area. Fish 'N Chips is a great option on the sound side of Emerald Isle!

We love this sound house--we have been coming here for the past 5 summers, when sand castles on the beach were no longer exciting. We have crew of fisherman (my husband and three teenagers). They love easy access to the water and out the inlet or fishing in the sound in the evening. It has great fish cleaning station as well. What could be better than throwing some crab cages off the dock and making fresh crab patties? Or how about fresh clams right off the dock? If you are into more adventure - kayak in the sound and explore the many small islands (there are plenty of clams there too!) The house has two kayaks. What a great place to learn how to sail as well. My kids get a kick riding to the beach on the beach bikes and to the stores and on the bike path you can really get a workout. The best part of all is probably watching the sunset over the water. The house is cozy, clean and comfortable and has all you need (intranet access is nice for checking on the fishing weather report). If you are looking to fill your days with other activities besides sitting on the beach - this is the house for you! There are also so many other things to do in the area- see artifacts from the Queen Anne's Revenge, climb Cape Lookout Light House, visit Fort Macon, take a surf board lesson, check out the aquarium, etc...

My husband and I spent a wonderful week at Fish and Chips. We have always stayed ocean side when we have rented at Emerald Isle through the years, but we have a new appreciation of the beauty that awaits on the sound side: the colors, light, breezes, and the constant sound of the water worked their magic on us. We were made aware of the changing tides as the water rose and fell against the dock and enjoyed incredibly beautiful sunsets from the dock every evening. We spent a lot of time on the screened-in porch as well. We had lots of fun putting the crab pots in and hauling in supper from the dock. We rode the bikes down to the beach every afternoon with our chairs strapped turtle style to our backs. The cottage itself was cute as can be, and had everything we needed for a restful, restorative week, from a thoughtfully-created notebook with all kinds of local info to a kitchen stocked with all the basics. The master bedroom upstairs had a great view of the sound. The homeowner could not have been more helpful and accommodating. Our only regret was that the week ended. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us!

During this first stay for our family at Emerald Isle, we found just what we were looking for! The duplex was as described, with the bonus of a nice selection of books. I read two novels--what a treat! I loved sitting on the deck, reading and looking out at the Sound. The home had every convenience we might need. We spent a day at Hammocks Beach State Park, which was beautiful. My son and I greatly enjoyed the Aquarium, also. We hope to return!

My husband and I and our 3 kids had a super vacation on Emerald Isle. We've been going to EI for 3 years and just love it. Fish n Chips is in a great location. Close enough for biking to beach, ice cream and stores. Great location to let the kids take the bikes out up and down the quiet street. Every morning we'd put the crab pot out at the end of the dock. We ate crab every night. Both the bikes and kayaks got a workout. Lots of options to choose from when going to the beach. We usually end up going to Bogue Pier where the parking is free during the week. It's close enough to bike but the kids want to bring too much. When we've had our fill of the beach, there are lots of activities to choose from. Every year we visit the aquarium in Pine Knolls. We've been to Fort Macon and took in the beautiful view of the beach. This year, we went over to Beaufort and enjoyed the beautiful homes, the burying ground, Blackbeard's house, the Maritime Museum (freebie) and took a water tour. We had dinner at Spouter's Inn - a bit high priced but very worth it. My girls always enjoy poking around the touristy surf shops on EI. Other activities available include mini golf, go-carts and a movie theater. We refer to the information brochures and magazines left by the owner to catch up on the island happenings. Even the stormy weather was a treat. It rolled in across the sound and everything took on another color - very dramatic. Fish n Chips has always been well-maintained and we've never had any problems during our stay. The sound side of EI is a quiet place to stay and is close enough to everything when it's time to liven things up. I'd recommend this location to friends and family.

Was our 1st time at Emerald Aisle and we loved every minute and this quiet quaint adorable home on the sound. We brought our boat- Very sturdy dock- and 4 posts to tie up so didn't have to worry about the boat slamming into the dock with the waves- Saw sting rays from the dock, caught and ate our 1st blue crabs using their crab cage. Girls ages 9-12 fished, caught crabs and loved the kayaks they had to offer. We went boating only to find a pod of dolphins that swam and played around us 20 ft from our boat- Great shelling on a small island where the sound and ocean meet. The house it self- GORGEOUS fews from the living room and the master bedroom. Very clean and well kept. Just minutes to the ocean. We parked at the pier (free Mon-Fri) - Minutes away from surf shops and many restaurants to chose from. The house is filled with brochurs on what to see do and where to eat. Swansboro is a must see for cute gift shops. Free boat launch over the bridge on the way to Swansboro about 15 min away.. Or one is closer about a mile down the street but you had to pay. We never used the bikes, we just never got around to it. Found games and puzzles and pretty much anything else one could want. Loved the sound side better than the beach we never knew what we would see. Fabulous sunsets and just pure peacefullness. We will recommend it to family and friends and they most likely will see us again next year.

If you don't really want or need the hustle & bustle of being right on the beach and you like to throw a line out in an absolutely peacful and relaxing environment than this is the place. We thouroghy enjoyed our stay at Fish & Chips and would (and have) recommend it to anybody. If you feel the need to go to the beach, it's only a short bike ride or walk away.

My family had a great time! We rode bikes in neighborhood and to the beach, played in the sound, saw a lot of wildlife, enjoyed all of the water scenes, and any time of day is beautiful from the screened-in porch. The house is beautiful, light, clean and well maintained which helped us feel at home immediately. We definitely want to return for another relaxing and fun time at Emerald Isle.

We usually rented on the beach but this year we chose the sound side and we found we liked it more. The water views were great and it was much quieter and calmer - from both weather and people. We thought maybe the duplex would be a bit noisy because we had had that experience several times before, but just the opposite happened and we didn't even know people were next door except when they were in the driveway the same time as we were. We enjoyed the bikes, kayaks and the beach, and the greatest thing - beach chairs that have backpack straps -- so convenient when you are also taking towels, books, toys, etc. to the beach. The walk to the beach might be a bit longer than what most people want to do but I can say we ate really well while we were there and this is the first vacation when we didn't gain weight -- a big plus. But, you can bike to the beach if you want or drive but it really isn't too far. Having 2 bathrooms upstairs and one downstairs was nice because when everyone was trying to get out of the house in the morning or at dinner, there were enough places to primp. We will definitely be back to this place and we are glad we found it. Can't be beat for the money.

My family (3 college kids plus a friend) recently stayed at Fish and Chips and had such a wonderful time! The house was perfect for us. Very clean and cozy. The view from the living room out to the sound was so relaxing. The kitchen was large enough for me to make some good sized meals and the dining area fit us all for meals and some games! We rode bikes down to the ice cream shop (definately recommend the Sweet Spot), fished off the dock and kayaked around the island in the sound. There were bike helmets and life jackets provided at the house (thank you!) We brought our own fishing poles but it would be nice if there were some poles at the house. We had plenty of room to spread out and the bedrooms upstairs were perfect for those who wanted to sleep in. We went over to Atlantic Beach to the New York Deli (best ruben sandwiches I've found outside of NY) and flew a kite at the beach near the house. The house was located on a quiet street and we enjoyed taking walks. All in all, I would absolutely recommend Fish and Chips for anybody wanting a nice relaxing getaway spot!

We enjoyed this charming home with wonderful soundfront location. We loved the outstanding aquarium and would suggest a visit there with or without children. The town of Beaufort has an interesting maritime museum and a walk along the waterfront there makes for an interesting side trip. Emerald Isle has many attractions and restaurants. We liked Flippers. Chowdah Heads and Rucker John's the best. Supermarket, pharmacy and banks and post office are close by. We hope to return again.
