  I stayed for a week and was completely happy. It was quiet, comfortable and just what you would expect from a place in LA up in the hills. The garden areas around the house are terrific and so beautiful. I enjoyed fresh oranges and lemons right off the trees on the deck. Delicious! The owner was very helpful, even carried my bags up and down the terraces for me. The apt is stocked with wonderful books about Los Angeles, Hollywood and other areas of California. Good stuff. I would definitely recommend this apt.

  This was our second time staying with David and Heather - the first being over a year ago when I was expecting. We were delinquent to write a review then of how nice and clean the apartment was, so now I must write after our second stay. It was now three of us traveling - including our six month old. David and Heather graciously let us use their pack n' play and a highchair for our visit. Boy, does it make a difference to not have to lug it on the plane! Plus, being able to have a kitchen and a separate room with a baby makes the whole trip so much more comfortable. I would highly recommend the hillside haven again and can't wait to go back when my daughter is a little older so she can play in the grass and explore the lush backyard.

  David and Heather were warm, welcoming hosts! The guest house is a private, well-situated apartment space on their property - perfect for those looking for a home-base in a cool neighborhood of LA. The house is well-appointed with everything you would need or have staying in a hotel. A great experience, would definitely recommend!

  My husband and I spent 13 nights at David and Heather's Hillside Retreat over the Christmas holidays. We were more than satisfied and will very likely stay there again. One feature we especially appreciated was the private parking spot. Without it, parking in the area would have been extremely difficult. The owners are very accommodating. The heating needed an adjustment, which was taken care of immediately. They even lent us some warm clothing for the Rose Parade and offered the use of some baby equipment for our grand-daughter. I highly recommend this apartment.

  David and Heather were the perfect hosts, great communication from the off and their space was beautiful and exactly how they had described it. Couldn't have had a better experience. Highly recommend and wouldn't hesitate to book again next time I'm back in LA.

  We very much enjoyed our stay in Silverlake! Everything was very clean, the apartment was cute and nicely decorated, and I even enjoyed the book selection. The owners were very accommodating. I will definitely consider staying here when I visit L.A. again in the future.

  We had a great time at this property. The owners were generous enough to offer us a pack n' play and high chair for our toddler as well. The back yard was beautiful. Netflix streaming was available, which was crucial for our Elmo viewing. :) We had everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. Would recommend to others!

  The apartment was very nice, with a huge patio as well. The owners were helpful and friendly. The kitchen had everything we needed and the parking was nice, because it is on a steep hill, but the parking was level and off the street. I would definitely recommend it.

  We wanted something more than a motel room. Something that felt more homey. David and Heather's apartment fitted the bill perfectly. Everything is provided if you want a break from touring for a day or to. Great range of books to read including a great selection of alternative tourist books on LA. Apartment located close to Hollywood, Griffith Park and downtown LA either by car or bus. Despite being close to these areas it is a quiet neighbourhood. Bed very comfortable. Hosts are lovely and accommodating when we had questions but they also give you privacy. Would recommend it to others and use it again.

  Recommended for: Age 55+.

  Excellent communications preceded our arrival. Owners are friendly, gracious and very accommodating. Property is exactly as described. Queen bed AND the pullout couch were both very comfortable; all linens were quality; decor was charming. Plenty of room for two of us (2 adults joined us for 3 days and it was a bit close); it would be a great place to spend several months over the winter. We really enjoyed the great outdoor deck and patio and we kept the windows open while we slept. We even entertained family/friends a couple times! The breezes were so wonderful and, believe it or not, it was so quiet up in the hills while we slept (except for the occasional siren). The area is very convenient to freeways, good reasonable restaurants (ginger grass), your choice of groceries, coffee shops and the lovely reservoir area. We will certainly stay here again.
