Great people and great place to stay!
Great people and great place to stay!
I've been meaning to post my feedback for some months now. Myself and 4 of my former schoolmates stayed in this house during the SIU BAG (Black Alumni Group) Biennial Reunion weekend earlier this year. We were looking for a place where we could cook and have a few people over to entertain. This house served both purposes very well. The house is centrally located (although quite a walk from campus but close enough that you could still walk if you were up to it), is surprisingly spacious, was clean and was quietly tucked away on a major high traffic & low activity street. Even though you had to go outside to access the washer/dryer it was a great feature to have available. My friend went over to the B & B and said it was really nice as well. The owner Paul was attentive and responsive when looking to book the place. Put us on the calendar Paul for 2015...we are looking forward to staying there again! Thanks for the pleasant experience!

Very Pleasant Stay
Very Pleasant Stay
We had Thanksgiving vacation at this cottage for my family of 4 adults. Our extended family joined us Thanksgiving day for the meal. We had enough seats for 14 people to eat together. The listing description is accurate. The cottage was clean and had a very comfortable, homey feeling. Beds were great. Owners were very helpful and live right across the street at "The Train Inn". There were no problems during our stay. Wifi works best in the kitchen, dining room and the back bedroom. Plenty of utensils, standard pots and pans, glassware. Would stay again. Located across from SIU campus, but could not have been quieter.

SIUC Graduation Week
SIUC Graduation Week
We have just returned from a wonderful week in this rustic well appointed cottage!! We can not say enough positive things about our stay......we were a party of 5 adults in the cottage, and on graduation weekend 5 additional adults in the Bed & Breakfast, The Train Inn next door. During our stay we enjoyed frequent walks on the SIU campus, road trips to the Shawnee Forest, and a visit to the town of Makenda. We enjoyed hot coffee every morning, prepared breakfast in our kitchen, walked on the SIU campus daily, explored the Shawnee Forest and ended our day with a home prepared meal at the cottage. The cottage became our social gathering spot, BBQing several meals, including serving dinner for 13 guests, followed by evenings of talk, laughter and board games! Then when the fun was over, we slept comfortably without interruption of sound or light!! Paul is a wonderful Innkeeper with attention to the details for the comfort of his guests. We all agree our experience was wonderful!

I stayed for a conference and really enjoy the seclusion while have great exposure to the surrounding attractiona. I really enjoyed the company of the house managers who are remarkably close. They were responsive to any needs I had. Very nice quaint property.

The cottage is very clean and well maintained. It has ample sleeping space and is such a short walk from campus. This cottage is exactly what we were hoping for during our stay in Carbondale.

A Marvelous Experience!!!
A Marvelous Experience!!!
I can't recommend this cottage enough! My husband and I organized a mini-family reunion in Carbondale and this wonderful place became the hub of activity. With its sleeping space for six, comfy, over-stuffed living room couches, fully equipped kitchen, and generous dining room, it fit the bill perfectly. Paul and Theresa are the best….welcoming and gracious hosts who live right across the yard in their gorgeous bed-and-breakfast (The Train Inn...I'd recommend that, too). They are responsive and caring, intent upon making your stay the very best it can be. Indeed, every detail was in place to ensure a comfortable visit…including flat-screen TV and wi-fi Internet access. The cottage is beautifully restored, with tasteful decor. Its location couldn't be better...right in the thick of things on the edge of SIU campus and downtown Carbondale. Make your reservations with confidence. This cottage is a true find! Thank you, Paul and Theresa, for a memorable stay that we will always remember fondly.
